    Something I haven't seen anyone address yet; it's a small but sad detail.
    When you come back to Leyndell after defeating Maliketh, and before meeting Godfrey, the sewer cover in the main street is removed and cast aside. This makes me think that Godfrey was looking for his sons, namely Morgott, on his way to the Erdtree.
    The fact that he loved his sons enough to try and see or free them before approaching the Erdtree/Elden Ring makes me love him as a character.

  • @jamesnorman9160

    Dude was a literal killing machine in human form: no wonder he was made First Elden Lord. The First Lord was meant to be a warrior and general to crush the enemies of Marika, and the second he was no longer needed he had his Grace taken away and was cast out.
    From seeing the statues and the huge portrait of him in Stormveil - showing Serosh looming over him - made me initially think that it was all just a metaphor for Godfrey's strength and courage. No, he has a literal huge ghost lion grated to him to hold back his monstrous power. And even with that limiter on, he still wiped the floor with everyone that faced him.
    Him being first of the Tarnished informs how he acts towards your character too: he's one of the only characters in the Lands Between that is actually respectful of you making it this far, and he compliments your fighting ability if he manages to defeat you. And that transition where he casts off everything of Godfrey to become Hoarah Loux once more and show his full power is one of the greatest boss transitions in recent history. Honestly, we should have had the option to stand aside and let him become the next Elden Lord...

    A minor detail of this game I think is somewhat worth looking into is the non-ingredient flowers. They feel like they've been placed with artistic intent, with the Church of Vows being a mix of the blue and gold flowers to symbolize the intertwining of Rennala and Radagon and their forces, but then there's placements like the copious amount of lavenders around the church where you fight Eleonora for her poleblade, and the spot behind the Ainsel Well with many white flowers that feel like they have meaning that I can't decipher.

    Have you ever thought of looking into the connections between the games characters and norse mythology.
    That despite his likeness to Thor, Radagon is actually Loki. Marika is dead, and Radagon somply shapeshifts into her, as the elden beasts puppet.
    His red wolf is Fenrir, Rykard is Jormungandr the world serpent, Ranni is Hel, with Godwyn being Baldr.

    A lion's mantle like Hercules, died in battle and chained to a wooden object like Cul Culainn and he took on divine, supernatural adversaries like Gilgamesh or Beowulf.
    Godfrey was a hero of legend and a parallel to the heroes of folklore and mythology, but if brute strength was all he amounted to and cared for, then how could he have been a lord and ruler in spirit and times of order? I think he took on Sarosh after the war with the giants, as at that point the Fell God was the single greatest threat to the Golden Order. Once that was out of the way, they built up the civilization we see today. That civilization would need a proper Lord, and you can see this in the architecture of the Roundtable Hold and Leyndell at large. The Hold is very simple, but sturdy. It's built with practicality before all else, with several alterations being made as time went on. Namely the throne room, which makes no sense if you already have a meeting place at the titular Roundtable. Meanwhile the rest of the city is as ornate as can be, something a straightforward warrior wouldn't particularly indulge in.

    I think the "conditions" of the children of Marika are pretty telling. In my opinion there was a third man in her live. Because we have the cursed twins with Malenia and Miquella. Both born with Radagon as father. Probably cursed because at this point Marika and Radagon became one being.
    Then there are the Omen Twins Morgot and Mohg. Both touched by the crucible as Godfrey favored it heavily for its primal strength.
    And then there is Godwin the Golden. Not touched by anything nor cursed by anything. Also very much looking like his mother. That is pretty odd to me and tells me there was someone else as father.
    Also interesting: Godwin is the only child which name does not start with M, the first letter of Marikas name. I would say this is also not a coincidence.

    8:00 you make the timeline sound as though all the children were born after godfrey had started the erdtree conquest to usurp the old order. However goldwyn the golden was already not only born but a full fledged man with all the powers befitting a demigod before the conquering began. The mountaintops of the giants was goldwyn the goldens shining glory and the only existing example of his raw damage and power seeing massive and small giants alike impaled by thorns to this day. At the very least he was already full grown and the twins were all but guaranteed to be born before the erdtree was established as they were "blessed/cursed" by the primordial crucible and I doubt that the old order would be powerful enough to do that after the erdtree came to power and Marika was at her peak of power. I feel that goldwyn was born and trained before the conquering began and the fell twins were born when the erdtrees forces were facing down the last of the old regime guarding the primordial crucible.

    The lion/divine beast warriors, the beast claws that are said to evoke their esoteric fighting style which Hoarah Loux employs, the worship of a divine lion. Storms being a focus when nepeli loux seems to have affinity for the wind and such.
    With marikas revealed history that i wont spoil further than a mention, i wonder if he too originated in the land of shadow. It begs the question of why hed abandon his culture: which is notably very anti golden order, but perhaps this could predate his Godfrey persona and his bloodlust made him not a worthy candidate of Beast Warrior despite his strength.

      Yup! That's what the golden order does. Also, he's said to be Elden lord before the age of the Erdtree. It's possible he had his own title that is lost to time and they simply call him an "Elden Lord" since it'd match their understanding of his status.

    • @caliaid
      @caliaid Год назад +3

      @@square-table-gaming exactly, in that i think it’s a Golden Order cover up! although i don’t think the Erdtree necessarily confers the status of Elden Lord - that is, no reason i can see that the office of Elden Lord would be tied to the Erdtree. That seems like something the Greater Will does, thru sending the Elden Beast/Ring. The Erdtree is a symbol of worship tied to Marika directly, who became a god and housed the Elden Ring. Her Lord wields the ring’s power. I see the tree as Marika’s particular manifestation of that power. The reforming/wielding of the Elden Ring when married to a god makes one an Elden Lord, not the Erdtree…that’s how I see it, anyway. So the Elden Lord title probably would have predated even Marika’s ascension (as we know there were other earlier Lords, Gods, and likely earlier forms of the Elden Ring, like the one depicted in Maliketh’s boss room)

I dont think that Godfrey was Horoa Loux before, he was a warrior king of a nation of the frigid uplands, which is the weider mountain area, vanished long ago. To learn about this yoou have to read the Brave's Battlewear. Godfrey became Horoa Loux after he was exiled from the lands between.

      The brave set and its description can't be considered canon as it cannot be obtained in-game. I'm willing to bet if it does get added in the DLC we'll see an updated description much like with the item descriptions from the original beta. Also, its description only says they participated in the Long March and that their ceremonial garb garnered them favor with the Warrior King who led them. Godfrey led everyone who participated in the Long March, not just those of the frigid uplands. The item description doesn't imply in any way that the warrior king himself was from the uplands.

    I had an epiphany about consorts and Grafting. We see many examples of Grafting and a few concepts of consort. I'm too dumb to explain but it's there. Serosh isn't a lion pet, he's the Lord of all beasts you learn that from the beast hammer gurranq gives you. Elden Lord and the beast lord grafted together that's no coincidence. By the standards of our world does that make them interracial gay husbands? AND Godfrey loved his Omen sons, was chill with the crucible knights, trolls and demi humans and tarnished alike? Why didn't we have the option to let this man be Elden Lord? Oh that's why. Because no one would fight Radagon and Elden Beast and frankly given the second half of that fight who would want to? Fromsoftware messed up by making the final fight so bad and the second last boss such a great candidate for Elden Lord. Why is our only option to take the throne ourselves or... give it to a blue doll crystal girlie? Why Fromsoftware why did you do this? Whyyyyyyy?

      Tarnished are those humans who had their grace stripped by Queen Marika. Without grace they CAN die. That's why the tarnished we kill on our journey don't revive, they no longer see grace. Godfrey was presumably murdered during the long march when he had no grace, which is what we see in the intro of the game. Upon having his grace restored he revived. The golden projection we fight is nothing but one of Morgott's projections.

By Radagon's shear F-ING NUT-levels of power with Incantations and Sorceries, only HIM, with Thorns being his frickin' Rune it'self, could impale every Giant, save ONE! This might be an unpopular opinion, and it really just is my opinion, but I don't like the way FromSoftware games present lore. I don't think lore should be hidden, easily overlooked and still clouded in mystery (to a huge degree) even after all the lore is researched. Lore is important in games where story has a role. It gives context to why you should even care about the quest you are undertaking, making you care about the characters and care about your mission. You encounter kings and lords, but no citizens or cities that they govern. I hate it when writing is too vague, with it's meaning open to endless amount of interpretation. This is for writers who have no real message to deliver in the first place, and hide their lack of meaning behind abstractions instead. Red flags for me are words like 'alas' and 'thou'. Using old English words which are easily replaced by modern variants is a cheap way to create intrigue. I do think Elden Ring makes up for it big time with it's stunning visuals and great gameplay. But yea, I don't like the writing and lore. To each their own.

    • @square-table-gaming
      @square-table-gaming  9 месяцев назад

      It's perfectly understandable if this type of world building doesn't appeal to you, not everyone enjoys the vague nature of a world that gives you the option of discovering its secrets or ignoring them. The only point I'd argue on is the use of old English. Thematically it would make no sense for people in this world to speak in a more modern way. This is old-school fantasy, knights and kingdoms, and it's meant to evoke that feeling; the old English used in this setting fits.

    • @rooster3103
      @rooster3103 9 месяцев назад

      @@square-table-gaming I like it when there is also hidden lore and secrets. But when the secrets are uncovered the story should become less abstract by doing so. When getting to the roots of Elden Ring lore, moreover than not it boils down to the influence of the Greater will or another outer God, who in turn are clouded in too much mystery to make real sense of. The use of old English, for me, takes away from immersiveness because that's the history of the real world. Wherein a fantasy world I think it's cool if that fantasy world stands on it's own fictional history. Elden Rings gameplay is not for me either, but there I can see clearly it's really, really good.
