Showing the Victorinox One Hand Trekker (OHT) with desert grip scales. The OHT is an extremely popular model due to its convenience and tool set. It is a great example of the minimalist “only what I need,” philosophy of outdoor Swiss knives/multitools.
How refreshing, a knife reviewer who actually uses the blade. I swear some reviews the knife doesn't look like it's done anything beyond opening a letter.
I try! I think usage videos encourage everyone to get out there and live life, all Victorinox tools have already been demonstrated somewhere on here, but I still find it enjoyable watching them used each time :D
This one has been on my list for a WHILE! Nice to see a "veteran" reviewr give it a look!
Glad to help bump it up the list :]
I use to have this model it was the trail master awesome knife liner lock tough as anything. Mine lasted for 9 months pins finally came out. As a diseal mechanic helper all ways prying out trailer lights head lights cutting wire you name it live the one handed opening so glad victoinox did that. Some people said gets in the way but i like it its tactical but nobody would really even think that. Thats what they did with the redune of the swiss soldiers knife of 2008. I am probably going to get the solider knife. I think they discontinued the trail master but the solider knife same tool set just changed the scales. still like my cold steel but can't keep buying them anymore i think i might just go back to victoinox just like i did when I was 7 years old now 41. Its crazy anymore just with knife laws can't carry. Some states just can only carry curtain blade length. But not my state ny county part. Least people won't freak out if you pulled it out on public. I think cold steel Is failing with quality control. I have seen some videos on srk handle and bushman. Awesome knife very useful EDC.
Man i have been following your channel for so many years now. You are still one of my favorite YT knife channels!
Thanks for sticking with me!
I got rid of the serrations on the blade of my trekker. Love it now.
I have three versions. Fantastic knives. Love em.
thanks for the detailed overview on this excellent model, great tool-set on this one ...in my perfect world would come in High-Vis Orange ...and include the tweezers and toothpick ...just because :D another great vid ...thanks again as always !
I managed to get a good deal on the black one-handed trekker with full plain edge back a few years ago. Bought several of them at less than $40 apiece. They are a staple in all the family car emergency bags. Using that same sheath as well. Great video... glad you were able to check it out.
That was a great score, congrats!
The 1 handed tracker is my latest and favourite everyday carry.
If only they had a non serrated version I'd buy in a heartbeat. Badass review as always brother.
They used to sell one up until 8-10 years ago. It was called the One Handed Trekker "NS" model (Non-Serrated). You can find them on eBay or Etsy sometimes but you'll pay a premium for them because they are considered collector's items now.
There is one on eBay right now for $65 which is a steal. If you search for it will come up under "Results matching fewer words"
5:07 "Now stare into that fire and think: where is your life heading?"
Things just got existential right there. 🤪
You're probably the only quality reviewer of this Desert Grip version. Thank you very much!
Thanks, bro! And always remember, when you stare long into the abyss, the abyss also stares into you.
I’ve had this knife for well over 10 years (the version with the toothpick and tweezers). It’s the perfect knife for camping and yard work. With the exception of pliers, it has everything I would want in a multi-tool. The serrated edges I sharpen with a round ceramic rod and it’s a surprisingly versatile cutting blade.
I'm glad to hear that it has held up all these years!
My non-serrated OHT was gifted to a good friend only to later learn the NS versions were no longer being produced. I enjoyed the OHT so much I purchased a serrated edge model. I love it and learned some sharpening skills in the process. With the serrated edge, I am a bit more careful and when I wipe down the blade and work a bit harder when cleaning sticky stuff. I wear mine when doing outdoor projects, use it for food prep, in my pack when hiking, on my belt when camping. Happy with the purchase. You review was thorough and entertaining.
Excellent, I am glad you are enjoying this incredible knife!
This is just a great knife, I love mine! It did throw me off though that the liner lock was on the other side, but I got used to it :) Great review as always partner!!
Thanks, bro! Yeah, I'm still not used to the reversed liner, even though I'm left handed, I'm used to right handed liner locks :]
Awesome tool, I believe it's also called the trailmaster and soldier and similar to the rescue. I'm considering this tool because of oht and serrations. Wonderful job keep it up
Thanks bro! I definitely think you'll like owning one of these.
I’m loving these reviews of the victorinox sak knives. Could you do the Swiss champ next?
Glad you like them! I will definitely do the Swiss Champ at some point, all SAK channels must :]
I have one Swiss Knife, the Rangergrip 178 in OD green, and I bought the sheath that you recommended. I love this knife and keep it in my main bug out bag. This late model OHT is pretty cool and I love the scales. Well, it's time I bought another Swiss Knife, so this will be my choice.
Excellent, I'm glad you've found your second Swiss knife here! Glad that sheath is working well, too!
I am a huge fan of the trekker but I prefer the two-handed version. The blade is a much more kephart-like spearpoint that works extremely well outdoors. But I can absolutely see the appeal of the one-handed version.
It's snowing where you are! It's so pretty,
There were even a few flurries today in the early morning today, it was pretty magical :]
Oh man, that Emerson Persian is a beauty!
For sure. I wish I had bought a few more back when they were cheaper and available :]
Love that Persian
I got a One Hand Trekker a few years ago and I really like it, however mine has the standard full plain edge blade and camo print handle scales. I keep it in my bug-out bag in my car and I put a bright yellow paracord lanyard on it, in case I drop it I'll be able to find it easy...lol
Whats up my man. Nice choice but then again they are all a good choices. Swiss gear is some of the best
Thanks, bro! Yeah, with Swiss knives its a matter of when, not if, to get some models :]
That sand color is very satisfying to look at. I have I think 7 trecker type Vics. Have one in each car and bag. Like em a lot. Even have the blue one for sailing, never used it though. Good vid, thx.
7! That's an impressive Trekker collection :]
You need to marry a rich cougar with a boat
The victorinox fieldmaster with plus scales and the victorinox farmer x are both outstanding Swiss Army knives because they are great allrandr edc knives and I can see that the victorinox farmer x is built to last thanks for sharing this post with us👍
Welcome! For sure those are high in my top 10 favorite Swiss knives!
I prefer the Forester model, which is the same but with a corkscrew instead of the phillips screwdriver. Corkscrew is more useful when you are outdoor because you can untie knots (and open a wine bottle with friends around a camp fire). Victorinox recently released the mini screwdrivers (flat head, phillips, torx) that can be fixed inside the corkscrew. I've used them already to fix my sunglasses. So for me the Forester is more useful.
I will definitely check out those new screwdrivers!
I also have the Forester. But there is something about the OHT-I have learned to like the serrations.
Like your Video and the knife too
Thank you, my friend!
Multiple EU military forces, including German and Swiss armies, have adopted this multitool as standard issue for decades, and it was recently announced that the US army is adopting a version of this knife, a very rare case where the US army adopting a foreign produced tool. This just proves how successful this design is.
That's pretty awesome, putting the "Army" back in Swiss Army Knife!
Would love to see you review my favorite SAK: the S18.
Oh yeah, that is a good one, like a more compact version of the Field Master.
You should make a video, on the differences theolder 111mm models have with the new ones! (If you haven't already) People say that only the locking mechanism is different etc but I find huge differences, that nobody has mentioned, on any video on RUclips. Handle ergos, Blades, saws, almost all the tools are different. Even the liners are different, where the old ones are aluminum and the new made of steel. I like both, but If I had to choose onw, I would go with an old Rucksack instead of a new Forester. I find that the older tools have better quality and performance and the new ones, are just thicker and heavier.
An interesting topic. I definitely believe that. Many tools were made better back in the day. I have some old Wenger models that were better made. The pivot on old Wenger scissors is adjustable, so if it loosens over time it can be tightened, new Swiss knives and multitools don't have that.
Most of the 91mm victorinox Swiss Army knives had a little bigger blade and opening tools the in side of the scales differently different and the Swiss champ many different tools some older tools good some not so good back in the day the older mag glass was much stronger and better but back in the day the older inline driver was not so good I might do a little video with both Swiss champs just to let you guys see what I'm saying thanks again guys
👍😎
I admire your ventriloquist skills
Thanks!
U should do more outdoor knives/tools
I shall, I shall
Do you still have the Gerber defacto
Yes indeed, I love a good dagger.
Whats the difference with the Soldier?
I believe they have the same tools, but the Soldier is the model issued to their army.
In my opinion, this is the only way that partially serrated blades should be done. When the serrations are at the base of the blade it severely limits their effectiveness. I would buy more knives if other companies did that. As soon as I see partially serrated I am ready to pass by it anyway, but, if I see the serrations like this, I look at it with more interest.
Back in the day, Boker used to sell a folder called the Direkt, which also had serrations placed like this one, it was a great little folder.
The black handled one is about $10 cheaper and has tweezers and toothpick. Don't think it is as grippy though.
I think Victorinox should find a way to put the tool slots into these scales, and into their alox scales, too. I know it's tricky, but Victorinox makes 60,000 knives per day (according to their factory tour), so I do believe they make enough $$ to hire some genius to figure it out! LOL :D
@@WeAllJuggleKnives wish the larger knives at least had the option of a pocket clip. This knife comes really close to being a fantastic EDC knife.
Practicall)
Unfortunately, to many people dismiss the serrated blade.
For sure, it's better for a lot of the original missions of the knife, I know the German and Swiss Army use these.
Linear = in line.
Liner = nothing to do with knives.
:)
Frame locks and back locks would also be in-line with the blade, but they are not made from the liner :D
Probably a great knife but the brown / beige handle looks a bit ghey.
LOL well lucky for you they have 4 other colors available! It does kind of look more like a chocolate color than desert tan, to me, but I like that its different than all my other ones.
@@WeAllJuggleKnives Regardless of the knife you are a bad ass for not getting ‘triggered’ by my comment. :>)
what ticks me off is the manufacturer charging more for different colors. Same damned features. Why not just make more of a color that sells instead of goofy colors that nobody wants? All colors, the same price, WTHeck?
Yeah the newer versions are always more expensive for a while, but hopefully the price will go down as they make more. More companies should do what Kizer Tangram does, they offer 4 color choices from the start, no gradual release.
