Pikmin 4 - Sun-Speckled Terrace 100% Speedrun (2 days)

- Опубликовано: 25 авг 2023
- I'm working on a full game Speedrun, clearing all areas 100% in the minimum in-game days, which is 13 days. This is the first step with Sun-Speckled terrace, which has to be done in two days since you need "big Oatchi" to enter most caves. I will upload the other areas in the next few days, so stay tuned!

This pikmin speedrun content satisfies my dandori needs
They shouldn't be called speedrunners they should be called dandori experts
I’m going to love watching this series. I’ve done 1 day runs of all the other areas aside from Primordial Thicket, so I can’t wait to see how my routes differ from someone else’s.
Especially Serene Shores, that one was a nightmare for me compared to everything else.
how did you do sun-speckled terrace in 1 day?, dont you need big oatchi?
Primordial thicket has to be done in 2 Days, as the final cave only unlocks after saving nelle
You need big oatchi for like 4 caves, it can’t be done in one for sun speckled
Turn on/off tutorials
Turn on/off auto lock
Pikmin4 = master piece
Still has some other issues too. Ice Pikmin, purple Pikmin, and oatchi all need some type of nerf. Perhaps limit oatchi’s carrying capacity. That way it nerfs both the charge and oatchi trivializing certain parts of the game like engulfed castle.
Man otachi is the most broken thing in whole universe, I don’t mind it’s not competitive
@@pikminman13might as well nerf ultra spicy spray and red pikmin while you're at it. The charge horn should be removed, too easy to swarm with. Just leave us with yellow pikmin and the disband button. True dandori experience...
@@QuattroThunder spicy spray should be harder to come by, you end up with 50 of them by the end of the game because theyre that plentiful. red pikmin suck still lol they dont need nerfing. the problem with oatchi is that you can get a full squad on an enemy risk free with no upgrades and 75% of the time that means the enemy just dies. the charging horn still comes with some element of risk and it doesnt consolidate your entire squad to directly under your command no matter where you move.
Idk why people complain about op things. Just dont use them aside from absolute necessity.
This speed run is really making me realize how much dialogue the tutorial has
Begging Nintendo for a NG+ to get rid of the constant chatting and tutorializing. You can make me unlock the skills and inventory again, that's fine. As long as I'm dreaming, Dandori battles could just show my view, too.
If they had a NG+ with all skills/gear available to buy from the start I would be a very happy gamer :)
man, seeing olimar get wrecked in dandori battle like that
absolute dandori issue
It’s funny how the obligatory first day wall is destroyed without dedicating a single pikmin to the task. In pikmin 1 and 3 it’s the first main thing preventing you from progressing, but in 4, just 2 charges from little puppy-dog oatchi can knock it down.
oh how the mighty have fallen.
While I was playing this game, I always used the 3 types of pikmin that they recommended for each area, but I always wondered if those 3 types were actually optimal, or if speedrunners would find a better combination...
This is such a great game already, I can't WAIT to see what you maniacs do to it in the coming years(!!)
Sub-40 hopefully lol
Generally knowing how Pikmin goes, the recommended types are based on what pikmin are required to solve the puzzles of each area, but in a lot of ways, you get more mileage out of using off type pikmin like purples and rocks for combat, Pinks and whites for collecting piles of material faster. That's likely why you don't get their onions until after you rescue Olimar to encourage experimentation. I've seen a few runners use the caves to exchange recommended pikmin with other types without losing tempo and it's fairly easy to farm wild pikmin without losing much in game time. So get an army of purples in Serene shores and sweep every enemy and use Oatchi for everything else. He's more efficient at breaking walls anyway.
ice cube is a dandori master and a harbinger of death. Good to know.
Sweet mercy you completely obliterated that dandori challenge...
I am eager to see how the rest looks, this play is so tight already
Really looking forward to these, and have been hoping to see videos like this from a talented runner like you for the last month or so. These will help me out a bunch when I get around to doing an efficient and well-paced longplay(s) down the line. Keep up the great work, ice!
I made a run like this based of hawlo
the way you destroyed olimar 💀
so keen to see the 100% speedrun!
That was amazing to watch!!!
Just a question though… when you say “100%”, there’s a difference on if you want to 100% the full game as opposed to just each area. I noticed that you didn’t finish building a bridge, which doesn’t count to area completion, but would make it so that you can’t 100% the full game since you can’t complete the “complete all builds” quest from one of the castaways.
I guess my questions are… do those quests (minus the “sprout 300” and “bloom 300” Pikmin quests) count towards the community’s idea of 100% complete? Based on the description, it seems like this is intended to be a set-up for a whole game 100%, but is this more of a sub-category to just 100% the area? And then I guess… if each area is a subcategory, does that mean you only need to get flarlic/treasures/castaways and nothing else for the quests?
Just asking so I know what to expect moving forward!!! And because maybe I’ll dip my toe into trying to run this game myself :P
Imo the build structure quest and Louie quests don't mesh with playing the game efficiently (especially Louie's), so they should be ignored. 100% should just be about full-clearing areas and Night Missions. Shipwreck Tale and Sage Leaf could be in an all quests run.
There are two different things. "100%" usually refers to area 100%, which means collecting all onions, castaways and treasures. This is what I'm doing here and it does not include side missions or curing castaways for instance. Then you have what you could call "max %", which includes completing all side missions, except the 2 that repeat indefinitely
@@ice_cube ahhhh got it, thank you so much!!!
@@ice_cube curing castaways is a grind anyway.
You can also build bridges during the night missions so in some cases if you need materials and are doing like a minimum day run, it can be more efficient to just wait until you do the night mission to finish all the overworld bridges. Many of them are optional to getting 100% in the area so it can save time.

Nope! No Dandori Issues here!
I can’t wait to see a full game run
Are you going to speed run different sections of the game and then just stick it all together into one big speed run?
Yes
Dandori pros- We need to decide what we need to do, and what not to do. How to do certain things efficiently, and if we need to fight enemies or create certain shortcuts, and finish the game quickly.
Me, not a Dandori pro- Does everything, kills every enemy, and wastes time creating shortcuts I know I'll never use (though, it probably counts towards some sidequests like Building Things or killing 1000 enemies)
Love your vids!! Just curious-are you eventually going to do a run in which you build the bridges/climbing walls? Will 100%ing the side missions be incorporated into your final game run?
Pretty sure the side missions, I assume you're referring to the castaway "achievements", are optional and mainly used to provide extra material. Wouldn't mind being corrected if needbe.
Im gonna try do a 13 day run, thanks for the inspo
Max Dandori
this madlad didn't even collect the pellets at the base before starting
I’m surprised how easy this area was to speedrun, being the
first big area usually doesn’t mean much in a Pikmin game as far as speed running goes. I managed to do everything minus blue onion (since I forgot you need Oatchi buffed to do it) but I had seemingly enough time if I had remembered.
You can throw ice bombs on the water to freeze it
@@jochembraad1760 do you have access to those on day 2? i thought that you needed more treasures.
@@pikminman13I am pretty sure they come from Russ's lab
@@harryinglis2535 items in russ' lab dont come in until you get a certain amount of treasures. you dont start the game with the lightning item unlocked. i just dont know which is unlocked when because i never bought any or took the prototypes.
@@pikminman13 Oh ok I thought they were there because I only checked the lab after 100 percented the Sun Speckled terrace first
Great dandori

Is it even possible to 100% the other areas in a single day? If time didn't pass in caves I'd think it would be but if you're going for 13 days you'll only get one day in each other area (except Primordial Thicket) and I don't think there's nearly enough time. Please prove me wrong! 🙂
The 100% wr rn does all areas except sun speckled terrace and primordial thicket in 1 day.
@@MrSpaghetti3 Oh thanks I found it, very impressive!
@@MrSpaghetti3 do you have a link to that?
@@LuckyOwI777 ruclips.net/video/n_V45PQzOok/видео.htmlsi=l5NH0DUAg4pbrHDM
Time does pass in caves but at a reduced speed (1/6 I think)
how did you get your cursor to go so far during 4:17 ?
When i start Industrial Maze Oatchi is with me. I have no idea what to do to get him up there 😅
On the first visit he is up there
@@ice_cube you're right. I took him with me and got stuck the first time in the center. I ended up riding him and making him rush over the rollers to beat it! 🙌
I'm guessing it would be possible in 1 day if not for needing the day to end for Oatchi to grow up and to unlock Russ?
"Aside from the things that make impossle to do this in one day...this could be done in one day, right?"
lol
Well, I mean, for all I know it would be physically impossible to do all that stuff in one in-game day simply because there's too much stuff and not enough time. But then again, Dandori.
@@treehousegames7903 It would be possible.
If you want to do a minimum day run, there's not too much you are able to do the first day, since you need Oatchi's jump ability, and the ability to craft bridges for lots of the area.
I've completed the area in two days, and I had about a quarter of the day leftover on day 2. I obviuosly can't prove it, but I'm sure it would be possible to complete the area in one day, especially if a route was optimized (I just kinda did everything I could next to each of the base locations and moved from one "location" to the next)
The closest you could come to trying this is rescuing the scientist dude (forget his name) on day one, and doing nothing else. And then completeing the rest of the area on day 2. That would bring you the closest to 100% the area in one day, and that single cave isn't going to make _too_ much of a difference
Huh, neat! And I bet the other areas are a lot more obviously possible, since they can definitively theoretically be completed in a single day.
@@treehousegames7903 Yep! I think the final area needs two days. But I _think_ all the other areas can be completed in 1 day?
I know the Blossoming Arcadia and Serene Shores can for sure. I'm hoping some runs will start emerging on youTube so i can get help with optimizing some things, lol
Why did you do the first dandori battle? Can you not use dingo until you finish the day with him?
Exactly
you found dingo in the maze? i found him in hectic hollows..
Damn, I've completed 2 days in this area and I'm at like 39%
Cut me some slack though, this is my first Pikmin game, so I'm no Dandori master yet
Unless you're ignoring most castaway sidequests to save time, using the real exit in caves might be better for the sake of materials
what does that have to do with materials? do they not get collected if you exit the cave?
They do, but theres a sidequest of completing all caves via normal exit that gives 30 every 5 caves
@@imaksta
@@imakstareal exits for the materials from completing the castaway Dash's quest
@@--46200 oh does it not count if you dont use the real exit?
the side quests will be interesting when routing true 100% runs. People were upset about him skipping the Dandori missions but that may be optimal for time for 100% anyway as the minute you spend letting Dalgo do the mission for you can save you 3 minutes when you're fully upgraded and redoing the mission later for platinums. Having the speed shoes, pluckaphone, and a max offense Oatchi can make that much of a difference for the harder ones later.
I wonder what the lowest amount of days is for a 100% run of the entire thing.
13 days
@@ice_cube Does that include night missions and Louis missions at the end?
Not including Night Expeditions, right?
@@jsphn2008 it includes the mandatory night missions to cure the pilot, Olimar, etc. You don't need to cure castaways to get 100% area collection
@@ice_cube Oh, so it’s about areas?
what are your settings?
For the first day you still had enough time to get more done...it was late morning when you ended the day
Dandori master among us
The first day is most skipping tutorials
Sadly Area 2 was cheated.. he didn't show what day.. so he had oatchi's swimming abilities on the blossoming arcadia..
Cheater...
Oatchi can unlock doggy-paddle as early as day 4 if you drown him. Day 4 is the day he went to blossoming arcadia.
dude, you could have gotten more treasures day 1 in SST. The watch, and the binoculars.
Just do a full game speedrun
It isn't that easy
description literally says he's working on it
You can't just beat the game and then say "I bet I could speedrun this now" you have to plan a lot of things out, like routing specifically where to go and what to do after you do something else.
It's more complicated than you think
Oh yeah, sure. Becasue that's a super easy thing to just, you know, do.
How about _you_ just do a full game speedrun if you want one so bad? Do it yourself, or stop whining like a child
