...amazing !!! I think takes acrylic painting into another level, combining acrylics advantages with oils advantages this time ! Thanks for sharing Justin
Justin, thank you for the incredible content you provide for aspiring beginner artists. Your work is appreciated and necessary in this world, in my humble opinion. So thanks again for sharing your gift of creativity with others.
Hallelujah!!!! Searched and searched for an Asian paint called Acryla that has similar properties but can't find sold in the States. Buying this tonight! I'm old as dirt and began oils in my teens, developed allergy.... did acrylic, pastels, watercolor, gouache and no joy like with oils so tried water mixable oils... ugh, no, just no. I so, so, miss that Magic White feel... thank you so much for all you do for your fellow artists. Bless you. Subscribing right now. BTW, if this has the Acryla property, it can be rewet on the canvas to rework for weeks.... does not fully set up for a month.
Iam very interested in this. Painted with bob ross oils years ago, watching you has inspired me to get back into it. Looking forward to seeing more with this.
Good stuff, I am going to look into that particular medium now as well. I have been playing around with a few mediums in acrylics this week for the first time as well, looking for the same affect as you in that it will keep the paint wet. I have the Liquitex Slow-Dri Blending medium, and the Golden Retarder for acrylics. Golden Airbrush medium is another one that can thin acrylic for glazing without compromising it like using water. If these mediums can help blend acrylics similar to oils, then we have ourselves a game changer for sure.
hey Justin I used some acrylic craft paint and put just a touch of olive oil in it (keep in mind it was all a test to see what would happen) well it stayed wet to a degree for about 45 mins, and, when it dried it was just like the rest of the paint, but, it worked
I’m an acrylic user. Thank god you’re starting to mess around with it. You’re an amazing teacher and I need help!! Check out Heritage Acrylics because they stay wet for a long time with their extender also!! :-)
That's a wonderful way to keep the acrylic paint wet for long enough to work it almost like oil paint. I sent you a message on Twitter, attached a large acrylic painting I made called "Paradise Found"
Good to see you found this method, see my comments to some of the other posts below. Does this mean we can get some more acrylic paintings from you in your new downloadable video tutorials you're thinking about producing?
Most of the major brands have the same type of products, usually with different names, (copyright and all that.) eg. retarder, flow improver, slo-dri is one from Liquitex. It's best to stick within each brand as the products are all formulated to work with their own range. Mixing and matching brands is not a great idea. Do you mix sugar and salt to put in your tea/coffee? They are both crystals and they'll both dissolve in the drink but they're not made to work together. Maybe not the best analogy but you get the idea.
Looks interesting I already have a ton of Golden acrylic.... wish you could mix the thinner with it and maybe u can who knows. Wonder what would happen if you did. Dunno if I want to invest in the open or not yet time will tell. I know at all the local stores you can only buy the OPEN in a set they don’t sale the tubes individually yet so how would I even replace colors as I ran out besides ordering online. Already invested a ton on oil paints and slowly replaced all my acrylics with the golden colors when michaels had sales
I really want to paint I got some of the brushes like to 2 inch to 1 inch half-inch I just need to get the whole set with the fan brush and the Filbert brush and some canvases little at a time
I’m guessing we need a nylon brush set to mirror the natural brushes used for oil. Should be able to use water for cleanup. I’m wondering what that thinner consists of. It should be water based.
I am new here my Brother and was wondering if you paint mostly oils or Acrylics? i have switched to Acrylics because the cleanup of oils gives me a headache! Blessings my friend!
Ok J.. you've got my attention @!😄 What the hell is the thinner?? I hate my acrylics because I have to work so fast. O cant relax and have fun painting with it. Oils are beautiful but very messy and to long to dry. I can make it dry quickly with drying thinners but they will end up cracking horribly. Please tell us where we can get the magic thinner and what u think it is... Thank you my brother of colors. 😎✌🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Tom Stclair hey man ! Hope all is well ! So the magic is 😂 , golden open acrylic landscape set. There is a bottle inside that says golden open thinner. It definitely keeps the paint wet longer. If you want to try it the set is called , golden open acrylic landscape kit , or set. Probably on amazon or definitely in the art stores !
@@PaintingsbyJustin thank you brother I went online and checked at Amazon and saw the the golden paint thinner I got two bottles ordered I sure appreciate it and happy brush Strokes keep up the great work man your paintings look awesome really awesome
@@PaintingsbyJustin Also you can buy the thinner separately from kit if you just need thinner. It was like 18 bucks for a 4 oz. Bottle. Damn stuff is liquid gold. Lol lol lol. Anyway thanks for the info.
@@PaintingsbyJustin Ah. I was gonna ask you about this. So if I use the thinner with liquidtex or basics or mastertouch paint do you think it wont blend properly as with the paint that is the same brand as the thinner???
Ianapolis uses a flow retarder with acrylics and blends wet on wet. He's not as good as you but if you want to switch to acrylics he could give you some good info. Also colors by feliks.
Wow that blending is awesome with acrylics I need this in my life !!! Thanks for the demo👍👍
...amazing !!! I think takes acrylic painting into another level, combining acrylics advantages with oils advantages this time ! Thanks for sharing Justin

Absolutely
Paintings by Justin , please please help us acrylic artists!! 🙏
I am now using acrylic and love it but it is very different tech
That looks excellent. Can the thinner work with any acrylic paint. Keep up the great work Justin.

I like the fact the paint stays wet. Will this work to do a whole painting withe the same reflection we get with oils

That would be awesome for me to use here in the desert Southwest! Only thing is how expensive is it? I hear Golden paints are very expensive.
I have that kit and haven't done much with it. I think that will change soon.
🙏🎨😍🤩🎨
Can you use Golden Open Paints and Thinner to get the same or simular results as your oil paintings?

Welcome ! Glad to have you here ! I mostly use oils but absolutely love to use acrylics sometimes also !
When you use oil paintings how many parts thinner how many parts oil?....thank you.
Nice job. When will your next live painting tutorial be and can you send a text to all your followers so we dont miss it? Have a great day!
