  • Tens of thousands of people filled the streets and beaches of Falmouth today, Saturday June 24, to watch and take part in Armed Forces Day. With events being held across the UK, this year the national event was hosted in Cornwall, with more than a thousand military personnel, veterans and cadets taking part in a tri-service parade through Falmouth.
As well as the huge military parade, which was attended by Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, there was an exciting afternoon of air displays in the town, with the ever popular RAF Red Arrows putting on one of their world famous displays.
Falmouth was chosen to host this year’s Armed Forces Day national event following a competitive bidding process. As lead partner for this year, Cornwall Council highlighted its strong engagement with a multitude of stakeholders and had previous experience of delivering large-scale events, such as the G7 in June 2021.
