Bruce sounds like a nice guy and probably was a good replacement when REO decided to go commercial and become more of a ballad band. I still prefer listening to pre 1978 REO when original founder and bassist the late Gregg Philbin was with REO. Gregg played the amazing groove and fill bass lines on the double live REO album "Go for what you know". Just my preference.
