  • There were pioneering Hammond organists, and then there was LENNY DEE. Often imitated but never bettered, his unique style of playing, born out of the days when he played the banjo-uke as young kid, saw his early recordings being Juke Box favourites. His legendary recording of PLANTATION BOOGIE rocketed him to world-class fame. This is Part 1 of a video-story that is packed with photos and music.

Thank you Alan for making this series of videos, they provide a wealth of information on the Organ-World Legends. I was turned-on to Lenny Dee by the late, great Jim Harris, a truly magnificent organist (RUclips nickname - 6a65682), with him and the brilliant Rudy Rosa both having the incredible gift of being able to mimic very closely Lenny's playing style, and doing a fine job of reproducing the distinctive Lenny Dee sound. I eagerly await your next instalment.

I don't think a day goes by when I don't play a Lenny Track also growing up in a house with Lenny playing at weekends.

Glad you thought so. If you can get the CDs available on the Jasmine label I urge you to do so because in this day and age you never know how short a time they will remain in the catalogs. Some of his finest music was on those early Brunswick LPs.
