Good try! I once tried to sail from Kanaha, Maui to Kaunakakai, Molokai, by myself without an escort back in about 1989. I ran out of wind crossing the Pailolo channel. Then I hid under my sail as the Q.E. II sailed by. I didn't want to get rescued. Then I ditched my rig, and paddled for about 5 hours to the back of Molokai into Halawa Bay. I know the channels well, since I've sailed my 40' boat interisland many many times, and I had sailed interisland in Hawaii since age 16. And at the time I was a Captain of the interisland ferry from Molokai-Maui-Oahu. I just misjudged the wind that day.

Thanks for sharing... I'm confused and or missing something... You were cruising at 20mph with what looked like good wave conditions, you were flying covering 15 miles in 46 minutes and only had 6 miles to go to hit Dover and you had an emergency stop. Why the emergency stop? You could have sailed around the freighter and made it no problem. You had your safety boat there with all the information you need to track your path and probably the exact location of every ship around you. It looks like you could have had dinner and a beer in Dover...
The winds were quite WEST (we needed SW winds), and FOG visibility was varying between half a mile to a mile... YES The ships ARE ALL on ATIS the shipping traffic control system, but that's OKAY in decent visibility, but in half a mile of fog, its hard to see if these ships are going in-front of you or behind you.... We get a split second to decide, and the Ships on the English side (SHIPS ARE Heading WEST) are 99% hidden behind your sail and mast... If you look at the Baltimore Bridge collapsing in 30 seconds... You get an idea of how quickly things can change in a few seconds, even though the Dali was only doing 7 knots... I did what I could on the day... Some Communication between windsurfer and the safety boat can be a challenge at windsurfing speeds... Please check out the other two videos, where I was racing the Cross Channel Ferries... Same comment as @bexleyhs , I dont get why the emergency stop occurred, certainly a good reason, please share it . I want to encourage you to retry, you seem perfectly under control on the video, the channel crossing is definitely doable for you, congrats fom France!
Merci pour vos adorables commentaires. Très apprécié. Pour traverser de Wissant à Douvres, nous avions besoin de vents du sud-ouest, mais le vent était plutôt d'ouest... Nous avions une ombre de vent à Wissant, alors j'ai relâché une sortie supplémentaire, lorsque le vent a donné un coup de pied dans la voile était très en retard, c'était donc un choix de continuer ou de s'arrêter et de perdre du temps à se re-régler... Nous ne pouvions normalement voir que 1 kilomètre à 1 mile ... J'ai fait de mon mieux le jour, après 7 heures d'attente pour le vent et 7 heures d'attente pour que le brouillard se lève. Veuillez profiter de mes deux autres vidéos cross channel. Merci Tres Bien Encore Ptol

If I was you I will wait for better weather, lower wind and choose different equipment…
why are you being like that?
its a pretty good achievement to cross, even with a support boat, and i dont think you can truly say you already did it...
So, do it better. Or just do it ... instead of trolling from your couch.
