Me: Sitting here with my duckweed refusing to spread fast enough to not be eaten by fish.
Everyone: It grows RAPIDLY and takes over EVERYTHING
Me: THEN WHY ISN'T ANY OF MY TANKS COVERED YET!!!
I can't get the thing to grow myself!!!
Crazy I must have the perfect duckweed water then lol
I had to buy some from eBay. 🤨
Get some and put it in a temporary tank or dish. Let it grow and then put it in bulk jn your tank? It helps if there is a lot at once, and maybe feed your fish before putting it in XD
You want to put them in a calm area of your tank without much water movement. You do not want them swirling around in the current. It damages them and they die.
Back in my place there was tons of it on my unused ricefield...
Its make the top of the water like a green carpet
I know hair algae is annoying, but I must admit...you have some very pretty hair algae going. No wonder the shrimp love, it's a beautiful green oasis!
Yea sometimes I think the same and then I look again and I can't even see the light anymore because it's choking it out lol
my shrimp love monosolenium tenerum. Its very similar to subwassertang, but the ends are more forked where subwassertang is round. It will grow into a dome and the shrimp just love getting inside of it. babies really seem to love it too. I also float riccia, Brazilian pennywort, or frogbit in several of my tanks. Christmas moss is always really popular with my shrimp too.
Love it ! Nice work !😍
Wow! Those shrimp really seem to love that Guppy Grass!!! they’re all over it!! 🦐
Great options. I have subwassertang, fisseden moss and crinums.
Thanks Jadren. Great List. God Bless.
Awesome content....| keep it more!!!
The Guppy grass looks gorgeous
Great video!!! Thanks for the nitrogen info.
My shrimp also love the dreaded duckweed. Other plants they seem to favor:
Christmas moss
Scarlet temple
Hornwort
👍💕👍
Never tried scarlet temple
My Goldfish love Duckweed. They just mow it down.
Pearlweed. My shrimp love to hang out in the pearlweed.
I agree cool video
Nice sharing.nice 🎏🎏🎏
Great video Jason I'm in love with the Guppy Grass Christmas trees it looks like decorations or lights if you will 😂That is beautiful, and I can't believe how many are the duckweed,if they like That's what counts! You've become the shrimp man 👍🌿😊
Yea I'm kinda addicted lol
@@JadrenAquatics Believe me I'm right with you buddy. I now have 8 tanks in my room!😂😂🐟🌿
Hornwort is the best for me :) and mosses & subwassertang
java moss and hornwort are the two my shrimp love the most,
Great choices
I got given some Elodeah (Probably not spelt right). My glass shrimp love it.
I had to buy my duckweed for my Goldfish.
Hi from a newbie can you tell me what substrate you use for your glass shrimp many thanks Maia
Red Root Floaters, java & Spanish Moss
That moment when I buy some random plant and I got a few duckweeds, it didn't even took just a whole month for it to cover my tank that I let my goldfish to eat them (not itentional cuz I once put'em in my goldfish tank and they just chow'em down in no time)
Have you tried pearlweed as a floater with your shrimp? Try it and you’ll thank me later. Gotta give it time to grow though. I also like Buce in my shrimp tanks. Looks like you’ve changed gears from guppies, to corys, to plecos, back to guppies and now to shrimp. 🤣 That’s the beauty with this hobby. So many fish, so many choices and it’s always fun to try new things.
Yes but I can't keep it alive for some reason I love the look of it though
Does it need ferts to grow floating?
Goldfish eat duckweed like it's candy! If you have a goldfish tank or pond, just scoop the excess duckweed out of your shrimp tanks and feed it to the goldfish.
Easter grass - perfect anology! I've been twisting my brain for a year to remember where I've seen/felt that before.
Favorite plants: Java Moss, subwassertang, and Java Fern Windelov. It's small and they like to clean the long roots handing down. I'm going to try P. stellatus ocotopus soon - it grows crazy like guppy grass in my non shrimp tanks.
I had a bunch of octopus grass but apparently it all died off
Do you know any kind a grass like plant that I can use with my angelfish. Low 80° and ofcourse able to grow without alot a lighting
Hi there, I live in Australia and have started out on my shrimp adventure. So for I got it all wrong. Not giving up yet though. Your video helped me a lot about plants to grow in my shrimp tank. I love the cute little fellas. can i keep in touch with you so you can help me on the journey please?
Hornwort, duckweed and java moss is already in my shrimp tank..
Best duckweed removal! Shop Vac, shop vacuumed it out and a good water flow! Problem solved for me! Til I did both!
Very nice video!
For a shrimp tank, are there some plants that are better than others for specifically removing one of the baddies in the nitrogen cycle? For instance, will a certain plant be best at removing nitrate, or does one remove ammonia the best, compared to others?
And in my tanks, I had runaway Duckweed that I was scooping away daily (super high bioload fish-only tanks) without much success. What worked for me was to increase water flow at the surface with a powerhead! Within days, the Duckweed started to disappear. I can only assume that the increased water flow killed them off.
Also, with your mosses, how do you keep them in one spot so they don't float around your tanks?
I don't have enough knowledge on the chemistry of plants to know if some do a better job than others. I usely put my mosses where I want and then put a small rock on top of some of it until it attach itself. Thanks
Tap water or still water is best for the tank to keep in tank as tank water for the shrimp?
My man looks hella high 💨
Can you use an aquarium decoration with glow in the dark paint on it in a shrimp tank?
Great topic! I think my favorite plants for shrimp are:
1. Christmas moss (very dense, grows quickly)
2. Frogbit (long fluffy roots, good for perching on to reach floating foods)
3. Pothos (good root system to hang on, helps with lowering nitrates, easy to trim or remove)
hey, I have pothos, how do you have it in your aquarium?
No but I have a friend that has it in every tank in his fishroom
I totally agree just had a hard time to get rid of both .it took 2 days to get 99%
Haha Me too.
I thought guppy grass would have bigger leaf's :D
Question!? What is your thoughts about black diamond sandblasting media for my cherry shrimp? Seems it's safe, yet I know shrimp like to move sand an I dont want them to get hurt.. Thanks!!
I use it in 5 of my shrimp tanks with no problems
@@JadrenAquatics Thank you!! Your awesome!🙂
does anyone know if i can put Taro plants sticking out of the tank? Those elephant ear plants
I’m currently keeping my betta in a small fish tank and I want to upgrade him to a 5 gallon but I don’t want to toss the old tank but it’s a good tank.
Sell it on Facebook. Or i will strongly recommend you to keep it, it will come in handy for when you have to treat your betta fish with salt. Or, to set it up as a planted tank. You buy one plant of each you want, and keep cuttings spreading in the old tank (place it by a window) so you won't have to buy more plants.
I had a horrible outbreak of hair algea. I put a handful of red root floaters in and the algea reduced by 80 %
That's a great idea thanks!
I thought Easter grass too when I felt it
what is the name of the plant ?
Mine loove duckweed too, the babies will also hide in them the most from what ive seen so far
My baby snails love duckweed too XD
I think water body in my caridina shrimp aquarium have very low nutrients, but I see all shrimp inside very happy with it, so I worry to add more plants which required good amount of nutrients, that's make me feel the shrimp give me limitation yo choose the plants, hmmm...
Do I have to bury the monte carlo under the gravel for it to grow or leave the top half above the gravel I got already grown monte carlo and bured half of it under gravel and left most of it above gravel but the shrimp are eating it and making the leaves float to the surface
I think it will grow either way
I think my crypt I love the look and colors they come in. Red root floaters too
I like using salvinia instead of duckweed as duckweed is a mess
I only prefer guppy grass and Java moss for my shrimp tank.
whats the plant at the video banner?"
Where do you get your plants, moss's and such?
Most of it is from random people I bought shrimp off of
That "Thai moss" looks like what they call Christmas moss as well but if that's what you Yankees in Dallas call it I understand. 😉
Lol I got it from someone in New York that' calls it that somehow it's a little different
@@JadrenAquatics cool
I have no circulation in my tank. A couple plants, moss, subwassertang and alot of hair algae. Help how to get rid please?
I really recommend getting a filter, even the small 10$ filters would help but you can also buy snails or do frequent water changes and if the tank is in direct sunlight it is probably allowing the alge to grow so you might want to put it in a shadyer area. Hope this helps :)
Its never mattered what I like it only matters what my snails and shrimp like. No idea what plants I have I went by looks, never bothered to learn the names. Green and full of snails and shrimp is the best I can say
Half the time I don't know plant names either
How do you keep the brown algae at bay
If it's a new tank you just have to fight through the new tank syndrome
You missed hornwort and water wisteria.
anubias/bucep? Cholla wood spotted 3:10
what substrate is in majority of your shrimp tanks?
Brightwell volcanic
@@JadrenAquatics does it alter the PH like the fluval stratum
2:14 how do you spell the name of that plant? I want to buy it but I'll have to look for it online.
It is known as lomariopsis lineata or as said in the video - Süsswassertang
@@svfit9432 thank you very much!
Subwassertang
Anubias
Didn't know Elmer Fudd has a youtube
Are tou sleepy ? Or your in goodshit
