    This is probably one of the most over look aspects of the hobby!! When it comes to Caridina, substrate truly is the bones of your setup! Don’t skimp out on it. Plus one for Brightwell. Like in the video I am also using the Rio Escuro F and having great success. Well worth the money!! I’m only using 1/4-1/2 inch covered on the bottom of 40g and 20g tanks. Very little detritus build up and tanks are thriving.
    Brightwell can sponsor me any day 😁

    That substrate is named after Rio Escuro in Brazil. Escuro in Portuguese means dark. And of course cafe means brown. I don’t speak Portuguese but it’s similar to Spanish. Anyhow, I appreciate how informative your videos are. I like going back to your older video and then coming back to your newer videos just to see the difference in your delivery. Great job!

    Great video! I’ve got an empty 20g I’ve been thinking of setting up as a shrimp tank. I have really hard water, though, so a few questions; How long does the PH effect last? Do you have to eventually replace it? If the tank is planted that could be a real hassle. How do you keep PH down once the effect is gone?

  • @KevinsCaninesAndAquatics
    @KevinsCaninesAndAquatics 3 года назад +1

    For neocaridina, which like higher PH, you mentioned that they like higher ph, however, if you have a lower ph tap water what should you use? You suggested inert substrates for neocaridina but I thought that they like higher PH...

    • @BigShrimpin416
      @BigShrimpin416 2 года назад

      Yes you do want to use an inert substrate because and active substrate will lower your PH. If your PH is already low and you want to raise it there’s a few things you can do. Certain types of rocks will raise the PH like crushed coral, seashells and also limestone. RO water changes PH as well.
