i like how the artwork on the box isn’t even the same armor that the figure is supposed to represent
I actually want a figure based on that armor alot more than Extremis
What’s funny about that it is a cover for one of the extremis story arc’s issues but Tony ends up in this suit at the end. Marvel hasn’t even helped with the confusion people have had over it lol, thanks to using the pentagon armour as the main cover art for the collected editions.
The lack of waist articulation is so frustrating on their recent iron man figures. It’s the one character they could really get away with hiding a great waist joint in to help get him in some better poses.
This is probably my favorite look that Iron Man has had in the comics followed very closely by the modular design.
I love how he has noticeable gaps in his hips but can’t move his legs as far apart as the Modular Iron Man figure
It's called placement, hasbro enjoys putting the legs and joints in bad positions so that it limits range of motion. That or they just aren't very bright 🤷♂️
This extremis iron man should have been a home run for hasbro, knowing how popular this armor is. The articulation in the waist was right there for them to do, and it would have gone a long way to make this figure better. I also feel the helmet needed to have that more angular look to it and a bit more bulk to the armor.

I started getting into comics around extremis, so this is definitely the design I always think about when thinking about iron man
I was always a fan of the Pentagon Armor, but I feel like it's too similar to the Extremis Armor, so they probably won't make a figure of it. They even used a picture of the Pentagon Armor on the packaging of this figure
The annoying thing is that the colors on the packaging and the renders they showed off were actually PREFECT in terms of comic accuracy, too bad the actual figure doesn't have the same colors :C

I'm mixed. My memory of Extremis and that whole era if comics is weirdly desaturated. Like how Batman Begins just had a sepia filter on it. The coloring works for me. I don't know where I stand with the armor design. It feels really iconic and influenced the MCU designs but now days it doesn't feel like it has nearly the cultural impact of stuff like the Modular armor did for me. I guess it was in MvC3 but to me now it's less important in and of itself and more important as bridging between the 90s designs and the eventual MCU looks.
Didn’t just influence the MCU designs it was design by the same guy. It’s probably why it’s still a very popular armour from the comics today.
civil war armour wins no points? admittedly the comic sucked but THE panel is iconic and i'd consider getting this just to recreate that

it looks a lot like the five point of articulation toys I see in the bargain stores. The one that comes in a 10 pack with all the other mcu figures.
Almost all comic marvel legends look like cheap kids toys, but that is exactly what they are, mass produced junk.
I respect that you admitted you were wrong regarding the posing situation. Nice review. I wanna get this guy at some point. He’ll bound to be on sale at some point so I’m gonna wait.

I love this Iron Man. I'm waiting for this to hit stores and my Target does sales on Marvel figures pretty regularly. So I might be able to get it for a super good price.
The Extremis armour is fine to me, but I prefer the Bleeding Edge suit. Just not a fan of how sleek and minimalist the Extremis one is, or of triangular arc reactors. Plus, never liked the idea of Tony storing the undersuit in his bones.
The red looks okay to me, but I'm mostly thinking of Adi Granov's art where the colours are fairly muted. (The fact that Hasbro didn't use his art for the packaging is also weird.) Might be a bit more saturated than what I remember, but in a way that I can excuse because other artists had it as very saturated.
The lack of waist articulation really brings this figure down. I get not wanting to break the sculpt, but it just results in such awkward poses. But this company is the one that thinks waist, diaphram and butterfly joints make something "super articulated", so who knows.
But for all my complaints, this figure does look nice. It'd be nice for Iron Man suit display, which I'll probably use it for... once it goes on sale.
I was waiting for this one. Its funny/wild seeing that people were so happy you were wrong you're living rent free in their heads lmao. I really like this figure it could have been executed better but I still think it looks nice enough especially compared to most legends. I'm not a huge iron man fan but I like this suit.

Totally man. The ML reddit group particularly! They were like how dare Anthony criticize a 8 billion dollar company that keeps on inflating prices and produces subpar figures?! Anthony bad! No,no,no, i'll take that new venom on the bucky cap mold and gladly pay only 100 bucks for it!
people being so concerned about speculation about a figure prior to it's release is pretty indicative of the problem with the industry. these lemmings on the internet are bought in before a figure even comes out. I wonder how many of them even care that in order to achieve the pose, the figure has to be basically laying down?
I think he’s really skinny even for the design the torso and shoulders should have more of a “triangle look”
Yeah I thought I was the only one who noticed how skinny he is. Must be a basketball player in that suit? 🤷♂️
They need to add more toe joints to these figures that way doing hero landing poses are easier

I like the design I wish on the figure they panel lined him to bring out the detail.
Hasbro and McFarlane both seem to have decided to specialize in figures that are in that frustrating "good but could easily have been great" zone, where just a few little things could make SO much difference, whether in paint or articulation, etc.
how would you improve the paint as a customizer? just some simple panel lining with a black gundam pen or something else? trying to see if there's any easy technique I can try out

This design isn't my favorite, but when I think of 2000's Iron Man this is it, plus that was when I was growing up and first getting into comics. Personally the dullness to me nails the cover art from that time, not so much the actual art within the comics though which was definitely brighter.
I'm glad this figure exists but I like to be one and done with most Marvel Legends, saves on money and space, so the 80 Years version is the only Iron Man I need.

I get that there isn't much paint, but looking at the comic art, other than a wash there isn't much else they could add in regards to paint.

I always liked the Extremis armour. Being an old git the classic look of the 80 years suit and Silver Centurion are two of my fav's. A shame Hasbro ballsed up the head and neck articulation on Silver Centurion. I was always a sucker for his early all gold bulky suit. Now they're doing the grey first appearance suit, I guess we'll get that soon.
This looks good apart from the overlong calves and gappy crotch. Though not keen on the desaturated colours. An ab crunch and ball jointed waist would help this figure.
Liked way you address the pose situation,yes he can do the pose,but in an unnatural way.I saw redditors post pics of him in r/Marvel legends and mock you in the comments, funny how NONE of them mentioned how he looks from the rest of the sides."bUt buT hE cAn" Just shows how low the bar is.
It seems he’s mostly hated among the redditors for being “too negative”. Criticism seems to fall short among ML fanboys because any ounce of it suggests that you must hate the product. It’s not about being negative, it’s about knowing that Hasbro can do better if try a little more. They made some good ones, but that’s among a sea of mediocre to bad ones.

With a slight retool, I think this mold can be a killer Iron Patriot figure.
I have the original ML Extremis Iron Man from years ago. I'm not sure if it's late Toy Biz or early Hasbro, but it's a good figure. Besides the legs being a little too skinny and the paint on the chin being wrong, I think it's a WAY nicer looking figure. The Extremis amror is my favorite Iron Man design, thanks a lot to the amazing artwork the comics had when it was in use. It was so sleek and sexy, and had kind of an art deco/Rocketeer vibe to it. I don't think this figure captures that feeling at all. It's too bulbous and round. It looks like a suppository.
30 bucks for no ab crunch or hip swivel... awesome, that's the "Premium price" collectors are paying for. 👍🏼
My annoyance is that I see people defending the paint (or lack thereof) as it being closer to the comic, but they are proven wrong LITERALLY ON THE BOX. A bit of wash or something would have made this guy pop so much more

I don't mind the Extremis in general but it's too sleek and the hooker boots pretty much kill it for me. Much prefer something on the same general look but a tad bulkier like the MCU Mark 3 or the comics' Model 25, the armor that's actually on this thing's box art. In fact, I wish Hasbro or anybody would give that armor a go because the only contemporary version available is the Sentinel one from years back, which wasn't great. This almost looks close enough to pass for the Model 25 but the differences are too noticeable for me, especially those boots.
Model 25 would be bulky enough to pass for an actual suit of armor. If they ever tackle it I hope they get the proportions right.

And it seems like Hasbro's definitely cutting back on articulation with their newer ML figures. The new 2pack Doc Ock only has a waist ball joint at the belt, and no diaphragm at all. Having a single point of torso articulation on standard-looking male figures (standard as in not "special"-sculpt figures like Kang with his tunic, nor Doom with his skirt) is clear indication that Hasbro is serious about cost-cutting. Male figures for the most part have always had 2 torso cuts, and this new trend is really worrying. Right now it's not too big of a deal yet, since all the figures they are implementing these fewer-articulation schemes aren't the most acrobatic, but in general, it's still worrying.

Thanks for the review Anthony. Is it me, or are you all Iron Man'ed out? Don't get me wrong, I love ole Shellhead but after three or four different variants of his armor I'm tapping out. After Ultimate Cap hits my shelf, that will be the end of ole Winghead too.
I think if the figures were actually good, it wouldn't be a problem.

I can’t say that I dig the execution of the mold. For all their so-called ‘innovation’ I don’t see this topping the McFarlane Bats Who Laughs Noob I recently copped. Love that fig-and for only 20 bucks🤷🏻♂️

Extremis is pretty close to an MvC3 Iron Man which I'd want, so I was initially curious by the announcement of the figure.
Overall I'd try to pick him up on discount at around $17, but I think it's arguable that the 2013 version of the Extremis figure did the paint and proportions better for the most part. Bothers me lol.
IT'S 2023, They need to normalize:
1.) PINLESS JOINTS
2.) BUTTERFLY JOINTS (FRONT AND BACK)
3.) LOWER NECK AND TOE ARTICULATION
4.) EFFECTS!

I'm probably going to cancel my preorder on this figure, I think it looks weird.
It feels like they sculpted the figure and then elongated the torso and the legs to make him taller.
Also, the gap on the hips is awful; too much free space and the range is still limited somehow.
I really like this armor but the figure looks especially thin especially from the back. No way a human at that scale would fit in that armor
I was excited for this figure but some reason it doesn't look that good. I loved how Sentinel had made their extremis armour. That looked awesome this one kinda looks goofy

I dont like most of the iron man figures because of how limited the torso is...i want at least two points on it like the classic iron man or modular. they have so may places to put a waist or something there..but no..the movie and versions like this are always crap in my opinion.
