Ditto! I lived in the keys from 2010 to 2017 . I hope that was a an exception rather than the norm in the here and now. If you're still there, go south to mile marker 17 and take a left at the blinking yellow light. Follow the road about 10 miles to the second bridge you come to. Usually good fishing there.

On to the fishing, again an amazing selection of colourful fish with attitude. Nice to see relatively simple rigs catching the fish, the variety is amazing. Both of my parents were from Florida and I have been where you are now. I am not into fishing but I absolutely love watching your videos. Your family is wonderful and you are a very blessed man. I live in Colorado and have limited mobility now and international travel for me is pretty much out of the question. I have traveled in the past but never got to the UK so I kind of travel vicariously by watching these videos. Thank you for taking me along with you!

Also, I think the fish you could not identify with the spikes and the stripes that you said looked like a fish you know is a Archosargus probatocephalus, the sheepshead,(If you were using shrimp as bait) You have them in Cork too I think!🤓

I went to long key for my 40th from uk. Loved it! Fished for lemons off the beach at night using uk tope gear. Paddled a bait out into a channel at night, on 50lb gear, lost something huge. Saw hammers that night. Also lost a mr unstoppable of a bridge. Lots cudas on live grunts. Had lemon, nurse, bonnethead and Caribbean reef shark. Tarpon were all not feeding. Such a great place but accommodation is eye-watering.
That Hogfish Wrasse! At first I thought you had a dragon fish, then a John Dory, but then the patterns/scales were so familiar to the ballan. It's like three fish rolled into one. Another brilliant video, thanks John :)

I have to say that I have lived in south Florida all my life and when I was in high school, we used to skip out to go fishing just like that of bridges and on the beaches. So much fun fishing when you never know what is gonna be on the other end of a bite. Cheers man.
Just caught this vid...you saw the tarpon...at nite the big tarpon come out...I nailed one at skyway pier...he had me hooked as he ripped all the line off my big penn real...I stopped it with my hand..saved 300 yards of line...that sounds like your kind of fun...I like catching bait...this was a good Florida vid...
Awesome content. Love going here once a year from the UK to fish. The keys converted a full family of 4 to fishing! All of us now have rods and gear that we travel with. One day i will retire here ;-)
Great video upload. Enjoyable and entertaining throughout. With the fish you caught in this video it raises the question what type of fish do the Americans have in their tanks and aquariums. Certainly the type you usually see in aquariums. Reminiscent to the fish in the cartoon series FINDING NEMO. Great seeing you release them back once you caught them. Thank you for sharing.
Stunning again mr locker and spiked again for your troubles. I was kept out of the water by a parrot fish ( guarding eggs I think) in the Maldives once out side our water chalet , every time I went in he came steaming at me with a full set of knashers at the ready , thanks for sharing

I was in Marathon just after Hurricane Florence in 2018. I was flying my little aeroplane along that bridge; probably a tiddy bit lower than your fishing vantage point! (Don't ask!) Welcome to the states! Hope you're enjoying your trip, really enjoying the content! You're on the perfect area for fishing, you can keep fishing the keys or fish the gulf to the west (I would highly recommend checking out Sanibel Island) Or fish the Atlantic from coco Beach to Miami!

The mangrove snapper and yellowtail snapper are delicious, love that the restaurants will cook your catch there, it is amazing. Fantastic video 👍
That fish at the 12 minute mark is definitely a Hogfish. It's great you came to visit America. I was just in the UK but in Belfast. I did really enjoy the seafood except for a dish with plaice =. There was almost no meat and for only the second time in 64 years I sent it back.
Fantastic video! I took my 3 year old fishing for the first time a few weeks ago. Caught his first dogfish. Turns out, 3 year olds are scared of dogfish 🤣

We have already returned to the U.K. now Michael. We had a wonderful time and I actually enjoyed the learning curve of doing it all myself. We are definitely going to return and I will reach out to some local guys. 😊👍🏻
Just discovered this channel, love every minute of it. If you ever end up in Vermont at Lake Champlain, there are some good sized bass/pike/muskies to catch.

Hi again - former Florida resident of near 10 years here again! The area I'm from is not The Keys. I'm from Volusia County which is the shark bite capital of the world. That's right - THE WORLD! So it makes sense that the fish are fiesty and covered in spines. Got to give the lil' guys SOMETHING to protect themselves with lol! Between the bold, cheeky gulls and the bellicose fish to the gators and brown recluses and widows - my friends and I affectionately call Florida the Australia of the United States: everything there either wants to fight you or kill you....or both, haha!
Another great video, it's nice to see something different. You obviously enjoyed FL, I hope that the rest of the family did as well. Bet you'll be sorry when it's over. It looks a fabulous place but personally I prefer Cornwall, you're so lucky to live there despite all those summer tourists!

Mate we had an absolute blast. If it hadn’t been so windy I would have had the kids with me, but our accommodation had a sheltered pool so they were having a blast there. 😊👍🏻
Always carry travel rods and kit when we go on holiday to the states. Love catching different species. The 'attitude' is probably more to do with them being young and daft than anything else. Nearly all anglers I've met/spoke to in the US are the same as the majority of us over here, decent and helpful

Some stunning species there bud...what a cracking little session. Seagulls are opportunists everywhere you go by the looks of things. When I fish for conger (Devil's point, Plymouth) I have learnt not to leave my mackerel bait on the floor at night, as the crafty local rats will be off with it, and some of them are on the large size. Anyway thanks for another very interesting video, take care and tight lines.
Hi John, so glad you are in America. The thing is, we don't have as cool a fish as you do in your back yard. I would love for you to catch a grouper this trip. It is totally my favorite fish in the sea.
Proper job on getting the right fish id's.. a school master will be almost gold color with bright yellow fins and has the same body as the mangrove snapper... you come back this way and want to high speed troll for wahoo I'm in the Jupiter fl area...🤙🤙🤙🤙
Here is what you can do in windy weather and no boat down there John . When the tide flows to the North away from the 7 mile bridge throw 2 chum blocks in deeper water . They will carry pieces of fish into the Bay and draw 3 - 5 pound Mangrove Snapper to the chum line . Use Menhaden or chunks of Ballyhoo but small live fish is the best bait for them NOT SHRIMP . You will easily get your limit of 5 Mangroves and you can do this any time of the day when the Tide runs towards Florida Bay

Brilliant stuff mate, so glad you had a great time there and got so many videos! Its a great place to fish and you never know what the bridges will throw up! The mangrove snapper and yellowtail snapper are delicious, love that the restaurants will cook your catch there, it is amazing.

That fish at the 12 minute mark is definitely a Hogfish. It's great you came to visit America. I was just in the UK but in Belfast. I did really enjoy the seafood except for a dish with plaice =. There was almost no meat and for only the second time in 64 years I sent it back.
Plaice at this time of year are spawned out. Very thin. If you had one from the summer you would have twice the meat on the same fish.
Fantastic video! I took my 3 year old fishing for the first time a few weeks ago. Caught his first dogfish. Turns out, 3 year olds are scared of dogfish 🤣

Hi again - former Florida resident of near 10 years here again! The area I'm from is not The Keys. I'm from Volusia County which is the shark bite capital of the world. That's right - THE WORLD! So it makes sense that the fish are fiesty and covered in spines. Got to give the lil' guys SOMETHING to protect themselves with lol! Between the bold, cheeky gulls and the bellicose fish to the gators and brown recluses and widows - my friends and I affectionately call Florida the Australia of the United States: everything there either wants to fight you or kill you....or both, haha!

Those weeds are probably sargassum. Key West has had a lot of it washing up on the beaches. In large amounts, it has a strong sulfur odor.
We did see a lot on the shores. 👍🏻

Mate we had an absolute blast. If it hadn’t been so windy I would have had the kids with me, but our accommodation had a sheltered pool so they were having a blast there. 😊👍🏻

Always carry travel rods and kit when we go on holiday to the states. Love catching different species. The 'attitude' is probably more to do with them being young and daft than anything else. Nearly all anglers I've met/spoke to in the US are the same as the majority of us over here, decent and helpful
I will definitely say that the vast majority of people we met were wonderful. They didn't bother me too much, I still had a wonderful time. 😊

I did find a few lobsters but they were out of season. 😉🦞
Some stunning species there bud...what a cracking little session. Seagulls are opportunists everywhere you go by the looks of things. When I fish for conger (Devil's point, Plymouth) I have learnt not to leave my mackerel bait on the floor at night, as the crafty local rats will be off with it, and some of them are on the large size. Anyway thanks for another very interesting video, take care and tight lines.

Proper job on getting the right fish id's.. a school master will be almost gold color with bright yellow fins and has the same body as the mangrove snapper... you come back this way and want to high speed troll for wahoo I'm in the Jupiter fl area...🤙🤙🤙🤙

Here is what you can do in windy weather and no boat down there John . When the tide flows to the North away from the 7 mile bridge throw 2 chum blocks in deeper water . They will carry pieces of fish into the Bay and draw 3 - 5 pound Mangrove Snapper to the chum line . Use Menhaden or chunks of Ballyhoo but small live fish is the best bait for them NOT SHRIMP . You will easily get your limit of 5 Mangroves and you can do this any time of the day when the Tide runs towards Florida Bay
