Alec and I went to music school for the Jazz Studies program in Winnipeg at the same time. He's an amazing musician and a dope dude! It's so awesome to see him play music with his famous childhood friend again!
Seems to be such a beautiful person, what I really love about him, is that it´s no bullshit, no image. Just pure raw talent with large dose of humbleness. Thank you for being around. really.
Do you think there's a possibility that within that authenticity, there's a bit of an affectation to appease the fans that expect mac to be mac? I sometimes wonder if that's the case (which to some small degree I'm sure it is) but the guy definitely comes off as chronically chill and makes good music. Gotta appreciate that.
MrFreeGman Definitely, man. I imagine it'd be testing for people like Demarco to keep up with fan's expectations to be a certain way. Like, can any of us really imagine a genuinely pissed off, raging Mac Demarco? (I can't) It's like that Father John Misty lyric that goes "a little less human with each release, closing the gap between the mask and me" Except this new album brings to surface other sides of Mac that show his humanity. Long story short, I don't know what the fuck i'm talking about and only Mac really knows who Mac is, hahaha
He at least seems professional enough to leave that behind closed doors. If he gets annoyed lol. I just think he is really happy and humble about what he is doing and where he is in life :) Grateful I would call it :) Ofc, he has bad days like the rest of us and get tired of things. But to me, he dosen´t seem to be someone that lashes out rather walk away from the moment. It´s very telling for example about how he chosen to deal with his father.
Why is getting glasses as an aesthetic feature different from having a hat on, which most of these people also have? It's not raining and it's not cold. There's a lot of stuff we don't need that we still get because we think they look cool. Tattoos, moustaches. It's all good, man.
What really makes it stand out is his use of syncopation and use of upstroke during his riffs. Also the fact that on the records he blends 2 channels of guitar to make one huge bouncy riff.
theherbpuffer fantastic guitar player honestly... especially here. ruclips.net/video/Lm5DMpngHNQ/видео.html that's another favorite with him soloing as well.
It's already in the description, but I'm just following the tradition. 00:58 Still Beating 05:12 My Old Man 12:07 Let My Baby Stay 19:05 Still Together 27:10 Unknown Legend (Neil Young Cover)
Found myself crying pretty freely listening to 'My Old Man''. I miss my Dad. And I see more of him in me each day as I grow older. Cheers to anyone out there who feels the same x
The piano/vocal version of MY OLD MAN makes me tear up like a baby every time I hear it, from the first word to the last note. Mac demarco is a musical treasure of this generation.
Going through some SERIOUS heartbreak right now, and this is keeping me going. Mac, thank you. If you ever read this, know you bring peace with your music.
I was feeling really depressed tonight, but watching my favourite Mac set has really cheered me up... from father issues to heart break to just remembering that things aren’t that bad as long as we can smile. What a living legend... absolutely beautiful filming to. Xo
When he talks about his dad, you can hear a slight crack in his voice. Like he gets struck emotionally. Kinda sad. But Mac is awesome. And it's cool he still remains as happy as possible.
Strombo is cool for having so many rad bands do these sessions. This crowd looks like they would literally drink Mac's sweat from a cup if he let them. geez
This is will forever be my favorite set by Mac. I still remember the first time I watched this video. Beautiful rainy night around 3AM, alone in my dorm room. Feels good to be alive man
Mac Demarco is one of the realest dudes ever. This showed what you can do with fame, you can either screw it up or just treat everyone well and live your own happy life. He is an example of a good guy who isn’t out for anyone, he just wants to figure out life in a good, simple and easy way. What a man. What a dude.
My father has never been around and now I'm a single dad of two girls, 13 and 10. I can really appreciate the Old Man tune, thanks for the song Mac, and in my opinion this version of the first two songs are better than the full band versions just so intimate and beautiful, you really get to appreciate the song. ☮️
The video ran hundred times on my screen but I just realized how awesome the host is, interesting smart questions asked in such a good way and in perfect timing and such concentrated action with the lyrics on the phone, super cool, thank you!
I love that mac covered unknown legend. Me, me uncle, and my dad played it at a recent funeral for a loved one and it just is so powerful to me. Thanks mac
What a chill human being here. Heck, he says he's gonna butcher Unknown Legend but he ends up doing my favorite rendition of it - I adore Neil Young but this version hits me in a way Neil's original doesn't. And props to Alec Meen for comping something fierce here throughout. Would have loved to be there - hope Mac decides to hit South Cackalacky some time.
What a mellow, pleasing voice he has & such a natural manner. Another discovery thanks to Strombo. How can all these great Canadian musicians have escaped me?
How has he not been on Tiny Desk?
He has, but it was like a special episode where he did it in a row boat in a harbour. Tbh he deserves like a proper Tiny Desk set.
Rhys Evans thanks for that but yeah i agree.
Cause tiny desk sucks?
@@heavenchord72 amen
@@heavenchord72 i hate your attitude man
no one mention the way the pianist seamlessly transposes to match whatever key mac chooses for the last song? talented musicians there
Benjamin Lewis-Skeath he also seems to be improvising all over the place; really well, too.
All these comments just want to talk about people's appearances. Kinda sad, but glad I saw someone appreciating the music. Like intended.
Alec and I went to music school for the Jazz Studies program in Winnipeg at the same time. He's an amazing musician and a dope dude! It's so awesome to see him play music with his famous childhood friend again!
Alex is probably the most musically proficient in Mac's band
Seems to be such a beautiful person, what I really love about him, is that it´s no bullshit, no image. Just pure raw talent with large dose of humbleness. Thank you for being around. really.

His image is precisely that lack of image. Kind of like Kurt Cobain.
MrFreeGman Definitely, man. I imagine it'd be testing for people like Demarco to keep up with fan's expectations to be a certain way. Kind of my point. Thanks!
He at least seems professional enough to leave that behind closed doors. If he gets annoyed lol. That moment when the musicians are the least hipster-looking people in the room :D
Marcin it's the best and worst thing about Mac DeMarco, except that Mac is the best thing about Mac DeMarco
this kid's got soul man!
The best and worst thing about Mac to me is his tuning. It's beautiful, but it's a pain in the ass if I want to jam out to it
Martin Anthonyo I don’t know about all of his songs, but I know he likes to play 1/4th down a key from standard tuning.
Max he plays at A = 440hz
Mac with a fender Jaguar? so underrated
mac with john dwyers lucite sg
thanks to kyle
where can i see mac with dwyers sg?
I wanna see that too. Links or never happen
def not his, given to look indie or whatever.
The let my baby stay was insane
Agreed
had to top it with still together
his voice just gets more beautiful as the years go by.
"Why Viceroy? Because I'd never Smoke a Boring Cigarette."
zigaret!
you haven't heard his voice in makeout videotape then
Not true sadly. It’s still a great voice but his younger days he sounds less rough than he does now.
@@9manny99 Imo the roughness makes it nicer especially as he heads into a much more lyrically emotional music but to each they own
wonder how many of those lenses are prescription
considering any prescription less than .50 in either way is total bullshit then probably none lol
LOL!

This is excellent! But the Charles Bradley video coming in above IMO
Oh... catch Blue Rodeo....ARkells ... lIGHT FOOT ...CULT
Tim Hedlund nah The Melvin’s is way better
Total Garbage YES! I was just logging in to say the exact same about the Melvins one.
Alexisonfire and melvins for me. This is great though.
Mac's guitar playing is so over looked I don't understand why. His playing is so clean.
What really makes it stand out is his use of syncopation and use of upstroke during his riffs. Also the fact that on the records he blends 2 channels of guitar to make one huge bouncy riff.
rallokkcaz he recently said it turns out it's just one squiggly channel
That's for the effect...vibrato
He's overlooked because he doesn't play crazy guitar solos. But i agree, for his genre, he is a fantastic guitar player
theherbpuffer fantastic guitar player honestly... especially here. ruclips.net/video/Lm5DMpngHNQ/видео.html that's another favorite with him soloing as well.
Mac playing a Jag through a JC-40 makes me happy
it is quite sex.

One of my favorite videos on RUclips. I've watched this performance at least 5 times.
Same here bud
from time to time, before i go to sleep I search for this video. It helps me remember the 18:45 moment, it's so simple, so beautiful, love it
I'll watch it a couple more times.
This video is such a gem and after 4 years still below 1 million views. Gives me hope that there is still so much good music to be discovered.

the piano during "my old man" sounds like the music on the game The Sims when you were building your house.

I saw Mac a few years ago in Brooklyn and he spat in people’s mouths and sprayed his water bottle over them.
I've never anyone say "I'd never drink Mac DeMarco's piss" so something is wrong with you
"Still beating my old man" - demarco coming clean about beating up old people again...

Very true, goes to show one of his best influences; his raw emotion. Sucky that his relationship affects him in such a way though.
My old man was so heartbreaking in a good way! 😌
The Adam Friedland Show brought me here!
