When every tribute somehow manages to become an Obi-Wan Kenobi tribute... It is a beautiful tribute, slow dispite the chaos and rage within Maul, artfull, crafted to show his path as a slave - first to the Sith, then to his hate - until he slowly starts to fight for himself, choose his own path, to ultimatly be freed by the saber that maimed him, to be shown mercy and forgiveness by the one he seeked to destroy, to die in the arms of his nemesis, to find hope in his embrace as death finally gifts him with peace. The most interesting thing is that I have no doubt in my mind that maul could have killed obi wan, but he was the one thing that had kept him alive all those years. To kill obi wan would mean to kill off a piece of himself. This is what makes the character dynamic so incredible and is the causation for how easily he lets himself be defeated in the end. It was closer for maul.
4:24-4:45 to me this is the most powerful sentence in this video maul was trained to be a weapon and he believed he was going to rule to galaxy with his master because he believed sidious cared about him after sidious killed his brother and pretty much killed maul. Maul was left knowing nothing but killing with no one to care about him. The only thing he had left his hatred and revenge. Darth Maul is truly tragic. Honestly, I wish he was the one to kill Obi Wan because he deserves it after all he's been through.
Insane just insane...This edit is so complete for such a complicate character like maul. For me if it wasnt vader, Maul is the best star wars vilain. The paralels were also very good by far one of the best maul tribute. Better than my maul tribute if you guys wanna check it out it's not as long as this one but I would love if you check it out.
When you think about it almost everyone was a victim and a tool of Palpatine the Sith, The Jedi, Anakin, Vader, the Empire , the entire Galaxy all victims and tools in Sidious's twisted plans.
It will never cease to put a wrench in my heart hearing mauls final words "he will avenge us" this shows that through all his hate all his trials and tribulations through his madness and sorrow and everything he had went through that his grudge was never truly against the Jedi, obi wan was correct in saying he didn't choose the path of the dark side but was forced into it... and in his dying breath he found comfort in knowing that the one who stole his brother.. his mother... his family his life and his destiny... will die by lukes hand.... how ironic that it would be Vader that destroyed Palpatine I wonder if maul would had found that to be bittersweet that his replacement would be the one to overthrow his prior master something im sure maul wished he had done while still serving under Palpatine... poor guy I relate to maul on so many levels
They are two very powerful emotionally broken young people who found each other. I ask myswlf in the future. Gow often will they remember with a bitter sweet tear this moment when they stood there watching the sunset being the power of two.
Dear lord. The build up that starts at 3:14 is SO masterful. The editing and music choice is brilliant. "Always remember I am nothing... Nothing." So good.
It’s sad that maul finally realized his true enemy wasn’t obi wan until the very end. Would of been crazy to see his sith eyes revert back to normal in this moment of clarity but he was to consumed in hate.
I view Maul as the other side of the coin to Anakin. A tragic villain if you will. Just like Anakin, he has a fatal flaw that he can't grow beyond, and he stabs himself in the foot at every turn because of it. Instead of moving on with his life, like Obi-Wan did, he pursues him relentlessly, obsesses over him endlessly, as if killing him will undue all the damage that Sidious and the dark side inflicted upon him. He chases that hope until it kills the one thing he had left, and eventually leaves him dead in the sand, alone and forgotten, his struggles amounting to nothing. One of my favorite characters in the mythos.

Maul was never the bad guy, he was a child soldier who was broken from a young age and survived in a world that did not accept him, a traumatized soul, struggling through life mad at the world that created him
Incredible... this and Maul: Hatred are the two best Maul tributes out there. Maul easily has the most tragic lifestory of any Star Wars character. He was ripped from his home as a child, trained to be a killing machine and groomed to be nothing more than a tool for the Sith. His brother was taken from him before his eyes. Mother Talzin, and the entirety of the Night Sisters, taken from him while he was powerless to stop it. Manipulated and used and tossed aside like a broken hammer. He fought so hard to build up a place for himself in the galaxy, only to lose, it, again, and again. He survived decades of abuse, manipulation, and abandonment. His entire people massacred simply to prove a point to Maul. In his old age, decades later, he finally faces his oldest adversary, aside from the Dark Lord himself. And yet, all of his efforts, all of his struggles and the pain he endured, was all for nothing. Honestly, I cry when I watch Maul die in Obi-Wan's arms. And it just shows what a great character and person Obi-Wan is. Maul took his Master from him, he took his lover from him. But Obi-Wan knows that Maul has been manipulated since he was a child, warped by the dark side and had his mind perverted by lies and deception. So he holds his dying enemy, as he draws his last breaths, and comforts him in his last moments, the same he would do for any of his comrades. Its a really beautiful and powerful scene and it gets to me every time. Nobody has suffered as much as Maul. His entire life was suffering. His entire life was pain. His entire existence was forged by the dark side, warping him into a force of evil. But at his heart, he is still a person, a person who is hurting and suffering and is broken. Obi-Wan knows this, and like the Jedi Master he is, forgives his enemy, and holds him as a friend. Its a perfect end to Maul's story and absolutely tragic, but truly a fitting and beautiful end. RIP Maul.
