  • This is a video showing how to tie the 5-3 Blake's Hitch on arborist rope. This particular rope is 1/2" New England Safety Blue. Also shown is how to tie the figure 8 on a bight knot that will be used as a connection point to the climbers harness. Lastly, there is a quick segment about attaching a foot loop to the climbing system using a prussic knot.
I don't show how to tie the double fisherman's knot to create a foot loop but a good video tutorial for that is found at: • How to Tie the Double ...
A tutorial for how to tie the triple crown foot loop can be found on New Tribe's website: www.newtribe.c...

Wow, my mind is blown. Thanks for sharing. I just got my first saddle and started watching videos to learn knotts. I was aware of the Blake's hitch (and the double Blake's hitch) and now thanks to you the prusick to use as an ascender. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for this video. In the other videos I've been watching, they would use only 4 loops and not 5. I'm using dynamic rope and I found the 5 loops hold while the 4 loops tend to slip.

Maybe I'm not understanding this, but the foot loop needs to be adjusted by hand correct? Can you explain

Yes that's right. This is a very bare bones way to climb, but also a rather inefficient method.

How do you advance that Prusik after each step?

No matter what I do it keeps slipping

I have trouble with Prusik knots getting so tight under load of my body weight that literally have to push the tag end back through the loops to work the Prusik loose in order to advance it in either direction. Would adding more fingers to the Prusik help distribute the load and keep it from locking up so tight?
