First “car” was a 99 GMC Z71. We would pack 8-10 deep in it on the weekends and hop around to all the car meet spots. All my friends had Hondas and other rice burners. They’d spend Monday-Thursday finding cheap roller Civics and Friday night they’d rig some ebay turbo kit on it and Saturday we’d go bust ass around in em. Oh to be 16-19 again.

Oddly enough one of my favorite cars in this movie, was Harry's parts truck, those Ford lightnings were something else. My very first car I got was a 1968 Oldsmobile 442, i was 14/15-ish, it was burried more than half way in the mud near a field, no carpeting, no seats, the seats were actually stored in a barn, it took 4 years for me and my dad to work on and fix it up, I did finally get to drive it to school for the last 2 or so weeks before school ended, still have it today and love driving it, that last day of school i was whipping donuts out in the school parking lot and doing burnouts, great times.
Other than that, my actual first car I drove throughout highschool was a 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse, I don't want to say it was Fast & the Furious that inspired me to want that car, I can't say for sure, I just remember liking them for whatever reason, I have no clue why lol

I had a 1995 Chrysler Concord, no working A/C, in AZ, the headlights were held on with packing tape, the interior ceiling fabric was all falling down, the driver’s side door handle did not work from the inside, and the driver side window only rolled down halfway, it would lose almost a quart of transmission fluid a day, and if I stopped to long at a light it would smoke from all the oil it was spitting out onto the motor. No system, but the windows had limo tint. It ended up getting impounded and I couldn’t afford to get it out.

One thing major to add is at the 45/46 minute mark. When they're discussing all of the idolized cars from the movie and back in the 90's, they say that they're super slow. BUT, those cars still stand to this day as some of the most mechanically sound cars ever made. As long as you don't intentionally abuse them, they could last for freaking ever.

Btw...the 4th gen ('96-'99) Maxima's were really popular as well. The VQ30 engines were pretty bullet proof, as were the manual trannies, there were version with and without LSD's. They would take a turbo or a supercharger no problem and not even blink...there were plenty of aftermarket support for them as well. Me and 4 of my friends all had 4th gen Maximas at one point. You could do a lot with the Maxima...and we did...they were sick. I totalled mine in a race in Brooklyn, my friend had his taken away by NJ PD, cause they found him sitting at a stop light for too long buggin out on shrooms...then later in inpound, they found his hidden motorized box behind the LCD screen, and it smelled like weed in it. The other three were sold at various points.

Awesome breakdown guys! Regarding why Dom raced at the end, I believe even though his friend just died, he also just found out recently that Brian was undercover and was probably going to arrest him for his highway robberies. That was his last 10 seconds of freedom. Or so he thought, since Brian let him go. Also, Dom's car was a Charger, not a Challenger.
My first car out of high-school was a used '89 Chevy Camaro RS, 5 speed manual with the V6 lol. I liked it quite a bit until I got into racing. I ended up with a '95 Nissan 240SX S14. At the time, everyone was into Honda and Acura, so I surprised quite a bit of rivals with the S14. The factory US 2.4 liter had quite a bit of torque, even though the peak HP numbers weren't as high as the Acura Integra GSR's, so when it was just intake and exhaust, I would be leaving them behind on the track. People just started finding out about the SR20 swaps, but I liked the 2.4 so much, I had a shop fix up the whole thing from the bottom end up and turbo charging it. The only issue was that there were only factory paper style head gaskets for the 2.4 at the time and that was the weakness of the engine, so a few hard runs was all it took to blow the gasket. The shop went out of business and because everything was so custom, no one else could take over and get it running right. I sold the car to someone else who ended up swapping the engine with an SR20. I miss that car.
Anyhow, looking forward to the next breakdown! Take care! 🤙🏼

I saw this movie at a drive in when it first released. I was 16 years old and i had a 1980 Chevy Luv. I raced nearly every car that left the drive in that night, and a few later on that weren't even there. Of course I didn't win any, but what a memory.

I drove a Fiero as a teen, and I swear I could get under the semi trailers... I think I just needed about 3 more inches, lol. I still think about it to this day as well! I also owned a Eagle Talon 4wd turbo. I miss that car.

You should def do Tokyo drift to. From a pure tuner car perspective its probably the best of the bunch.

It’s the trailer that use in that scene. You can fit a civic under it. You can tell that they change the trailer on the trucks from when they go under and when they drive next to it

My first car was a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse (I bought it in 1996, so irrelevant to the movie). I then bought a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, a 2006 Nissan 350Z, a 2008 Nissan 370Z a 2010 Honda Civic Si, and then a 2013 Nissan 370Z. I can neither confirm or deny that this movie (and Tokyo Drift, obviously) had a rather large impact on my life as well.

Outstanding review...when I was in high school in Savannah, GA back in the late 80s, an Army Ranger rode a Ninja motorcycle under a semi-truck that had pulled out across the intersection...unsuccessfully (R.I.P.)-- he apparently made it under the semi body but there was a steel rod stretching underneath which decapitated him. The bike continued to ride straight down the road for a quarter mile before wrecking. Definitely don't try these stunts at home.
My first car was a '70s AMC Hornet. More recently I owned a black Subaru WRX (bought back when they had mucho power, before they powered them down over the years. I hadn't modded the engine and was planning to keep it forever...until my 17 year old daughter at the time totalled it in an intersection-- not her fault, the other dude turned into her, but man, did that hurt. I walked up and asked, "How's my baby?" to the police on the scene and they said "She's fine, an officer took her home", to which I replied, "NO, I mean the car!" Just kidding--but that did flash through my head.
Now I have a 2019 Chevy Camaro 2SS and this time made all the mods I wanted to right from the start...Borla S-Type quad exhaust, Cold Air Inductions cold air intake, all-around ground effects, ceramic'd the paint, etc. When I wash/wax/detail the car, it definitely turns heads and people actually stop walking to watch it drive by. My daughter (yes, I let her drive it) and I visited car meet-ups in the Northern Virginia during COVID when there weren't many cars on the road, and they were a blast. She had connections with a few of the organizers and it was amazing to see how much they were like the Fast & Furious movies. There were attractive young ladies (though not quite model material dressed like in the movies) and at one meet-up where probably 100+ cars were parked with drivers doing burnouts and doughnuts in the middle, a series of beautiful import cars pulled in and parked in a staggered row and the leader got out and his beautiful girlfriend/wife got out of the passenger side, and as the other drivers walked up to the main group I was thinking, " Paul Walker is smiling his ass off somewhere." By the way, with a cold air intake and modified exhaust, you can hear the air being sucked in, and it even whistles a little if you don't install an extra extender part under the hood. I kinda like the little whistle you get at high speeds. ;0) Keep up the great reviews!

What lost me in this franchise was when Dom started doing wheel stands whenever he felt like it.

    • @koopspook

in real life many people have trouble not doing "wheel stands" so the fact Dom did it when "he felt like it" is plausible. if that's what lost you then that says more about you my guy 😄

@@koopspook people have trouble not doing wheel stands from a start. Dom does them at speed, at will. Not really plausible. And, it was a laundry list that lost me from this franchise.

Hi. I am a comic book artist/creator. The film studio and RJ de Vera, who was one of the lead car tuners that consulted for this original Fast and the Furious movie, came to my comic book studio in City of Industry, California, at the time just before this film was released, and my comic art team was considered to provide a graphic novel or comic series for it. The book/series was supposed to expand on the movie by telling the backgrounds on each of the characters. It was a time when the Japanese manga and anime series Initial D was becoming popular in the USA, and the film studio wanted to capture some of that hype. Sadly, the marketing execs were typical suits who didnt "get" comics, manga, or anime. So they killed the budget for the graphic novel/comics. But had it been greenlit, it would have been published alongside the movie's theatrical release.
