Its just dirt. If this is so upsetting you might want to try it yourself. throw something and no matter how good it comes out wreck it smoosh it up. Be free to explore and experiment without the obligation to have to keep everything.
I do not have a pug mill and probably never will. I went right over and wedged it up. The bowl wasn't perfect It looked ok on film but not good enough for me its better to get rid of a piece like that right away before it takes over the studio.
Great tip about turning out the top to keep it round while shaping the side. That will help me a lot with the bigger stuff I think. No more ovals; yay!
Awesome demo. Thanks for the insight. Anxious to try it. I am 'size' challenged on the wheel. Hope someday to make a giant bowl. I hope not to ruin mine at the end, though! Ugh. That hurt!
This is really cool! I was so worried the thing was just going to flop down while you were still forming it, but figures it didn't because you know what you're doing! By the way, to you have your own studio, or is this a class or do you rent space somewhere? I'm asking because where you are looks awfully familiar...
Did you ever see Fight Club, Tim? "I felt like destroying something beautiful." If not, I guess the quote doesn't make sense. But that just means you should watch the movie! Great work! I like the tip with the rim.
Everyone in my high school class was holding their breath... then they all groaned! They made me play the end again!!! So at the next review I heard excuses like, "I made one Miss, it wasn't perfect so I destroyed it. Do I still get credit for it?" To which I responded, "Not unless you made a video of it!" ...Can't thank you enough Tim! LOL! Inspired a bunch of "Destruction" videos! (My kids love you! You are their hero!)
boy? excuse me? naw, psych. I am a boy. Anyway, seriously, check out that movie. Fight Club. I'm gonna be looking for you to say that you saw it. Or, better yet, quote it in a video. That would make you youtube potter of the century. They have an award for that, I think.
@timseepots i have pics, but im not able to video it... go on FB and look for the group "Jake Jarrell's Art" links u to the work ive published this year =] some of it is still plastic, some fresh out of the high fire kiln. my centered 50 pounds and the beginning of my cylinder is posted, have a look =]
i was enjoying the video and suddenly heard myself gasp out loud. my heart can't handle that kind of shock tim!! ouch! warn us before you smash up such a nice piece. or use some editing to avoid inflicting pain on us viewers.
That's about the size I use for cereal.
What a great video! Thanks...and I especially love the ending, it took my breath away. from a novice potter who is trying to throw big.

Nice - So should you leave slip on your hands, so that you can pull without your hands drying out fast and having to keep putting them into water?

is it normal for a bowl to wobble THAT much if it gets big?

too much work to keep it. big bowl are like children, fun to make but hard to take care of.
how soft is porcelain? as in workability and grog content (not that there is grog in it im just asking if its gritty)
I love the comparison of big bowls to children, and I agree!
Smashing Work- Easy for you ,Tim, you have a pug mill; hard for me,I have to reclaim clay by hand.. Thank you for video, Claire
Yeah I am up and rollin, It feels good to be editing in the morning rather than watching cartoons.
its a machine that squishes clay up and sucks the air out of it its a big wedger.

omg..i died a little at the end..
Who needs a bowl that big? Zeus?
How in the world would you trim the bowl when it’s wider than the wheel head?
A bat, you can get them or make them any size you want.
"where did you do psycho boy?" was the question asked by pitt before norton says "I felt like destroying something beautiful."
I only pick up for videos, its is kinda like telling the rest in the room to shut up I'm taping and I care enough to clean some.
what's a pug mill?
I think I did it in sections Im too lazy to do it all at once.
omg. why did you crush it!!!!!
