She made me cringe. Her main problem is that she thinks she's better than him, and that is never going to go away just because they get married. Instead of looking at what they're both bringing to the table, she's busy counting his coins. Also, I wonder whose house she plans on moving into when they marry? Likely his. Women will never share their resources and money with another man. Notice how when she asked if her retirement was his retirement and she paused. There is no doubt in her mind that if he had a larger retirement she would expect it to be hers as well. This man needs to run as far as he can. Do not marry a single mother. To be fair, I feel like they did call her out. It did take a bit for them to get all of the information out of her. It would have helped if they new she was renting from the beginning, but based on how big she was talking I also assumed she must own her own home in addition to her retirement money. But there were several times they tried to basically get her to say how she would react if their positions were reversed, and if they had said the things they were saying to her to me I would have felt very called out. But to be fair, I also would never be in that exact situation, either, because I personally find her attitude disgusting. The other problem, of course, is time limitations. She danced around so long for the entire phone call that they really didn't have time to call her out properly. It's one thing to know someone needs to be called out. It's a completely different thing to get all of the relevant information and make sure you are responding to reality rather than calling someone out unfairly, and also still try to be human, and also find exactly the right words to call someone out IN REAL TIME and also within a time constraint. This woman is clearly a master at deflecting and distracting, etc. With 20/20 hindsight I can think of several ways to call her out better and to get the information out of her better, but tbh if I were talking to her in real time I doubt I could have figured it out in real time any better than they did.

The truth is she doesn’t like his income of 60k compared to her 150k take home, he doesn’t have retirement probably because his income didn’t allow him to save much and he chose to pay towards his house. If she married him he would probably not be improving her financial lifestyle. But he’d be helping raise her kids with little possibility of biological children happening with her and most likely die first (being male) with all of his assets going to her and then her kids. There is nothing wrong with not wanting to date someone who makes 60k in restaurant industry, but if you do then don’t say it’s his lack of retirement that worries you. The bottom line is she wants a man who makes equal to or more than her and has an equal to or higher net worth.

First question she should ask herself is where does all his extra money go? She says he’s really frugal with his money and has no 401k but also no debt, so where does the money go? Maybe he has an IRA and brokerage account but not a 401k through work. Does she actually know what his financial situation actually is? Sounds like he might recognize her mindset and is not giving her everything about his money, she is screaming a person where what’s his is hers and what’s hers is hers.
She should also ask herself that same question about where all HER extra money goes. After all, she is making $150k take home! He has bought a house and is debt-free on only $60k income.

Anyone who says they are in a better financial situation than their so called significant other isn’t in a relationship. Relationships are all in or nothing. It’s teamwork and building.
