    This episode is particularly poignant as the producer is Trudy's father who, along with his wife, still treated Monk like a son and were sympathetic to Monk's quest to find Trudy's killer. The fact that he could help the only father figure in his life was particularly special.

You can say she's guessing, or she wouldn't have got into a car she knew for sure was sabotaged. Was she thinking straight? The dude feared for his reputation after her speculative message was recorded, so he agreed to help this guy cheat under pressure of blackmail. ...at least a lawyer could argue all of this. Unless they actually find evidence of sabotage, I'm not sure it's so open and shut.

    • @TheBloodypimp
      @TheBloodypimp Год назад +6

      @@paksta that message amounts to a dying declaration. And it is 100% admissible in court. Not only would it not be thrown out on a hearsay objection but the cover up that followed would be proof of it's veracity. ^_^
      Also while the car was totalled, if it wasn't scrapped there would prolly be some proof of the brakes being cut. (People don't investigate accidents that closely if there isn't an obvious need like life insurance or etc)
      Furthermore, i would bet that during their talks, once the blackmail had started the host might have admitted it to the blackmailer which could serve as damming testimony for a reduced sentence. Basically there is a lot of proof out there. ^_^

    I used to love watching this show but there's no way the blackmailing contestant couldn't have figured out that Monk knew the code was the way the cards were being held. The fact they were both answering before the questions were asked should have been a red flag to the host and his blackmailer.
    All fun to watch, as usual, though :)

    • @cnaizhen
      @cnaizhen Год назад +4

      I fully agree. The first thing the host would have done is to stop using the code. And monk's revelation act would be gone.

    • @Guardian582
      @Guardian582 Год назад +4

      @@cnaizhen to be fair they had been doing for what 3-4 'shows', and the habit would probably have set in that he would hold the cards that way simply out of habit, though the contestant DID know after the first couple, problem is the show was still running and he wanted his money

    • @cnaizhen
      @cnaizhen Год назад

      @@Guardian582 hmm. I would think that the first instinct would be to abort the mission. One will rather not get caught and keep the job, particularly when it's obvious that monk has caught onto the code. It is critical to deny monk of any proof. Pretty sure that the host will not be holding the card 'out of habit' in a real life situation.
      Then the host will simply resume the fraud during the next episode of the show when monk is not around, with a changed code, and maybe with a different cheater guest (they can split the money three-way)

    • @Robi2009
      @Robi2009 Год назад +2

      @@cnaizhen I think the producers of the show could just check earlier tapings of the show with these two and confirm Monk's theory.
      I would compare it then with the tapings before Val was a contestant, to show that there was no system before.
      It would be harder to prove than catching them red-handed, but not impossible.
      Still, good point, they should've abort their scheme as soon as Adrian was guessing without even hearing the question

    • @cnaizhen
      @cnaizhen Год назад

      @@Robi2009 What you said is exactly right. The host and the witness would be caught no matter what, given the previous recording as well as the voice message.

A quick investigation of her car will reveal the sabotage and then the other needs to explain why he had that message on his answering machine and never told anyone. I'd say the blackmailer is definitely gonna confess since he really had nothing to do with the murder. The most they get him for is Blackmail and Obstruction of Justice. Maybe Conspiracy to conceal after the fact but he's out I'd say in 10 years-15 and they will offer him less time to flip. Send the other guy away for life

    Wow, they got there fast!
    Even for patrol cops that would be fast, but ... someone's got to receive notice that the detectives are needed, someone's got to decide who to assign to the case and give them the order to go. The detectives have to leave the police station and travel to the TV studio, then they have to inform someone of their presence, and that information has to be passed on to the guy who said, "They want to talk to you."

      You could do that with the old machines. It wasn't like voice mail today, could actually call your own number and put in a code and it would play back the messages from the tape so you could check them when you're away from home.

    Roddy should have stayed with castrating cows from his other movie... he ended up with the car and the woman at the end of that show. :-) (Monte Walsh)

    I don't follow the course of events in this episode: Lankman was cheating with Val Birch by feeding him the answers to pay him off for keeping his mouth shut about the host's assistants' car crash.
    But before dying the girl said that Lankman cut her brakes 'cause she knew he was cheating.
    With whom? Val wasn't on the show before her death.

      With some other contestant. The whole reason why he was cheating was because he was broke and was likely helping other people make money and getting a share of that money. The blackmailer found out about it and now he is also cheating. Except this time, the host is not making any money and all of it is going to the blackmailer

    Surely viewers would’ve noticed that method as it’s pretty rudimentary and very obvious

      Im not sure honestly, they might have just thought it was him holding it differently every time to be different. The backstory was he was using this system now and then with other contestants so he did hold the cards differently previously so they would just think it was his thing. He hide the code in just how often he did it. Monk was looking for the code so found it, no one else was looking.

      The fact that he could do that just by remembering the touch tones is something. It's not an unheard of skill, but because he's Monk, there is no sense that it's weird he should be able to do that.

      Monk was snooping around the guy's house earlier in the episode. He learned that he was planning on leaving the country and heard the dial code to operate the answering machine. He recognized the dial tones and knew what numbers to press to get in from the phone the game show gave them at the end.

    That doesn't mean anything. First, how could she have possibly known? And second, this does not proof anything. Yes, maybe they will be able to tie him to the cheating on the gameshow, but apart from that, they'll need more evidence than that.

  • @duytdl
    @duytdl Год назад

    Still not valid evidence. He's gonna go home, erase the message, and the evidence "recorded in the studio" would be dismissed as inauthentic.

      They can hold him, get a warrant to search is home, and get the message straight from the machine.

      @@chrisfortin If Monk was in his house earlier they likely already had some evidence for the warrant if not the tape itself.

    Dude. The way they recut the same clips and repost is incredibly offensive to their fans, and poor taste for a channel. I love Monk, got me through the Summer when I broke both my arms. But this is ridiculous, yall should unsub and try to not watch these when they pop up on the feed.
