I studied at university in an arts subject and I am in so much debt now. I don't need to pay it off just yet as I am not earning enough. I think the system might be slightly different in the US compared to the UK where I live. This video is so important for young people. My degree definitely wasn't worth the money.
I'm sorry to hear that, unfortunately you're really not alone... I did 3 years of university before dropping out to pursue my own business even though I had no plans too... when I started making more money than I ever would with my future career I knew that dropping out made sense.
I agree that the education system is very ineffective. It's just a ticket to get a job, which in most cases, people still can't get a job because of political reasons, bureaucracy/corruption, competitiveness (over saturated), economic issues and so much more reasons.
There's so many dimensions to this topic!

Uni is good if the person is studying something important like medicine engineering teaching accounting etc otherwise dont go

The exact same thing happened to me .. profit margins were trash and I knew nothing about chargeback, processing fees, etc. but the second one I launched took off
Depends what you study. If you study a STEM degree like computer science or engineering, or a finance/economics degree then it's worth it. Also, yes on average university graduates do earn more than others but it doesn't mean that you can't live a successful life without a degree. In terms of jobs, it will be much harder to get a job without a degree, the high paying ones like software engineering and investment banking almost always requires it. For someone wanting to start a business, a degree isn't required and many of the great founders are dropouts. Interesting though that those founders soon hire CEOs with degrees.

Tatiana, I do agree with everything you both have said. Our minds have been structured by the old education system to believe it's the only option. Here in Kenya, if you don't go to school and pass exams and get high grdes, you're regarded as a failure. There are so many kids back in the village who left school and now are good for nothing because of how the society views them.
I'm lucky to be in my last year at the university studying medicine and I am happy for it but I do not want to condition my mind that it's the only way I can achieve success,,,, I have a broadened mind now that there are so many options. My career would help me get initial funds to start and run a business.
However, Jackson in a country like Kenya I think pursuing your education is of the utmost importance. It used to be that way here in North America 50 years ago when going to school and getting a degree would set you up for life, but times have changed here and they haven't changed as dramatically in Kenya for example, where getting a degree can lift someone out of poverty as it provides job opportunities they otherwise wouldn't have.
I'm a single mom I owe thousands for my student loan. Smh, I can't even make the monthly payments for it, all my chips go to the rent and groceries etc. I make more than minimum wage too

Better to go,than not to go. It's only 4 years of your life, plus it helps adulting. You have that diploma forever.
