The Ducati, old French mustache wax, wet dogs, Frank Zappa and 'Valentine' are references to the legendary mustachioed Serge Valentin of Whiskyfun.com. Clynelish is one of his favourite distilleries. Nice that they decided to honour him with this bottling.
Love the bottle !!! two months into the journey discovered so far I like higher abv and woody & whiff of brine. I’m checking out SMWS now .... Cheers you magnificent bastards !!!!!!
"We benefit ZERO" -Daniel Whittington. Man.. I was typing up a bit of a ball-busting reply to that when all of of sudden Daniel added (almost word for word) a large chunk of what I had typed.. soo deflating.
I'm surprised you guys didn't mention that this bottling is named in honour of Serge Valentin, who runs the site Whisky Fun, is known for his love of Clynelish, and has a hell of a moustache!
Currently stationed in Asia for the next few years and Taiwan is on my list of countries to visit when travel starts up again. I barely drink, but their whiskeys sound very interesting, Think I'll be giving their distillery a visit
Couple of things: 1. Can't get enough of the Titan animation. I find myself playing it several times. Very well done. 2. I need more Titan animations. I have a problem. For the next quarterly challenge I may also have to abstain from titan animations.
I don't know if you have already reviewed this but I just tried it and looked for your review. Speyburn 10-year It was absolutely lovely and they miss-marked it at the VAABC so I got it for $10 bucks.
Speaking of wax, are there any relatively accessible whiskies that you’d say have a lot of waxy notes? I often get a beeswax note on Wild Turkey 101, and other bourbons sometimes give me a cherry chapstick note that I think is a little waxy. Even in Laphroaig 10 I find Carmex. For some reason I really like finding those notes and would love to explore more.
Bought a 14 yo Shieldaig Islay single malt and have an Ardbeg 10 to do a comparison to. Also bought a Glenlivet 12 and have a Glenmorangie 10 to compare that to. I have seen competition between the Glenlivet 12 versus Glenfiddich 12, and the Glenlivet usually wins. I have had the Glenmorangie and the Glenfiddich at the same time and prefer the Glenmorangie, so interested in which one between the Glenlivet and the Glenmorangie I will prefer.
Great video! Quick question, who actually owns the vault and buys all the whiskey? Is it a shared ownership between you two or is it owned by someone else who you both work for? Always been curious about this. Cheers
You guys are really good, it's funny and I learn alot watching your shows, please try a glencoyne cask strength and chapter 1 as they intense and delicate at the same time, very good whiskey would like to see your take on it, cheers guys.... stay safe 👍
Hey guys, you don't seem to know the reference of this bottle. Do you know WhiskyFun? Serge Valentin is a French man incl. mustache and a favoritism toward Clynelish. He is probably the most legendary Whisky reviewer and started way back when tablets where made of stone. Check him out and it will all make sense...😊
That topknot is looking ridiculous. Need to go full jidaigeki and get the helmet. That style existed in Japan to keep a soldier cool under his war helmet while maintaining his topknot.
these are the review notes of that specific bottling, directly from Serge Valentin's site: "Clynelish 25 yo 1993/2018 (47.7%, Scotch Malt Whisky Society, #26.125, ‘Valentin’s Moustache Wax’, refill bourbon barrel, 175 bottles) Four stars What Valentin’s moustache wax? It’s more and more obvious to me that they’ve smoked all their carpets, at the Vaults. Because I never use any moustache wax, mind you (isn’t that rather you, Charlie?) Let’s make this clear, I am not involved in this botting in any way, they’ve just used my name while I was busy elsewhere. Colour: white wine. Nose: it is a funny one, at that. Pointed cabbage, vase water, sweet mustard, manzanilla, old pears, heather honey, old dry muscat, a drop of vegetable bouillon, also a drop of miso soup (with bean curd)… And, how scandalous, no moustache wax whatsoever! And my lawyer who’s on vacation… Mouth: it is a loco Clynelish, indeed. More vegetables, lime juice, sour soups and juices, a touch of soap, some salted broth, Maggi… Actually, I’m wondering, isn’t this rather Glenturret? Or Tullibardine? Some salted caramel, a little pipe juice, artichokes… Now it grows on you, it’s just very unusual, and bizarrely salty. Split pea sausage soup. Never thought you could bring all this out of a bourbon barrel. Finish: rather long, a tad more leathery, waxier, with more paraffin and bitter oils. Comments: canned soup. Extremely hard to score. I’ll say 85 but it is kind of unparalleled in its salty oddness. I’m asking you, what can I do? SGP:362 - 85 points" www.whiskyfun.com/archivemay19-2-Cragganmore-Clynelish-Benrinnes.html#200519
Ducati? the Italian motorcycle brand Ducati? I own one Ducati motorcycle and 3 different brand motorcycles but I'm sure it doesn't have different smell compare to any other motorcycle....... but I like a lot of SMWS bottles....
Hope it is worth it.. to me it sounds overhyped.. paying to be able to pay and get a bottle.. if you are able at a certain moment.. and be fast enough to get what you want.. I mean.. There are so many CS bottles which you can buy easily.. there are so many IB's with excellent whiskys.
It’s so worth it. You get to try things you’ll never be able to buy in a store or a bar. Also you can get into exclusive bars. The scotch is out of this world. So worth it.
Hey guys someone help me out , new to whisky looking for anything similar in flavor to a hakushu 12, where its slightly peated. I had never enjoyed peated flavor until this one so looking for anything thats similar because those hakushu 12s are not available in Canada x-x thank you! may the whisky god bless you all
Yes I need a skip Titan thanks video button. It’s ok until eagle and bear spirits get to the Tower. Just goes off the rail after that......... unless you’re appealing to the ridiculousness of the tribe. 😉
Please do a Christmas episode that is just you guys in front of a fire while reading some of these tasting notes
The Laphroaig is back on the shelf😂, you lads need to stop letting Emma in
The Ducati, old French mustache wax, wet dogs, Frank Zappa and 'Valentine' are references to the legendary mustachioed Serge Valentin of Whiskyfun.com. Clynelish is one of his favourite distilleries. Nice that they decided to honour him with this bottling.
Wonderful! And absolutely love the society’s quirky entertaining tasting notes 😄
Of course it was Clynelish with all that waxing poetic ;-)
Are you positive that John Cleese isn’t the mind behind the tasting notes for the brand, or is that just the vibe I get from how Daniel reads them?
I'm surprised you guys didn't mention that this bottling is named in honour of Serge Valentin, who runs the site Whisky Fun, is known for his love of Clynelish, and has a hell of a moustache!
Yes those tasting notes were in the spirit of Serge's style. Sad to think these guys don't follow his reviews.....
Yeah, funny no one picked up on that reference to the titan of whisky reviews!
Get in line, Daniel - the Kavalan Distillery is only 66kms away, still i haven't visited there…
Currently stationed in Asia for the next few years and Taiwan is on my list of countries to visit when travel starts up again. I barely drink, but their whiskeys sound very interesting, Think I'll be giving their distillery a visit

"We benefit zero" besides the excellent whiskey tastings. Love you guys. Keep up the good work.

I always like when a distillery, brewery, or even cidery can embrace fun & ridiculousness. Might make me a little more inclined to try it.
Gentleman at 300k subscribers it perfectly fine to take a paycheck for your work. Since stand-up died good comedy is hard to find. Cheers
I absolutely love the nose and tasting notes of this distillery

Brilliant video as always guys
Is there a making of video of the Titan animation? Perhaps on the Tribe channel?
When will the whiskey tribe shirts be restocked , that or is the "small" option a "Texas Small" that would fit a thinner, less portly 6'0 frame?
Hand cam is the best thing to happen to this channel, fight me!
Balcones Texas Bourbon...wow IMPRESSED!!!
Can you buy SMWS bottles without being a member?
I don't think you guys ever reviewed Jameson Black Barrel, did you? I wonder how you compare to (your favorite) stout....
Clynelish 14 is my all time favorite scotch. I must have this damnit!
I’m debating a bottle of that 👍🏻
You Magnificent Bastards with Ralfy and Roy!! That would be EPIC!!
Rex, now that is a wild (cool) look. You should keep your hair like this for good.
You guys are really good, it's funny and I learn alot watching your shows, please try a glencoyne cask strength and chapter 1 as they intense and delicate at the same time, very good whiskey would like to see your take on it, cheers guys.... stay safe 👍
Was this previously recorded or are they back to social distancing?
Wondered the same thing.
Did you actually get petrichor? Because I thought that would be awesome to find in a whiskey.
Love all the videos.
How do i send Indian whisky to you guys like Amrut.
What a fun episode
I see that you have Bladnoch whisky in your inventory. Any chance of a review?
Is there a list of desired/requested whiskeys on your website?
Even with the skip past the Titan video would still watch it quite magnificent
Robin: Holy featherless crow Batman!!!
Batman: That's right Robin this crime seams to be. The work of none other then. The infamous Crow Man.
YEP it's still there THANKS EMMA!!!
Mouth is watering. Still trying to adjust to the buzz. I’m expecting to see you two at the airport handing out pamphlets.
Rex's "toupé" falling off 3:14 !! Followed by the nonchalant adjustment of the majestic mane.
Is it a toupee or a swoopee?
Kavalan is wonderful. It's really a sad thing that it's so hard to get ahold of and so damn expensive.
Why are you back on the couch Rex!?!?!?
He'd had enough exercise.
I think Daniel mentioned he wanted to be a Crown rep at some point but I may be mistaken
Heck yeah! Ralfy is such a good dude.
Going to reach 300k subscribers soon. Anything planned?
What if someone donates a full bottle of Compass Box Tobias and the Angel? Would it automatically get them to Patron Saint lol?
Do I detect a possibility of Whiskey beard/mustache wax reviews/biscuit/shenanigans?
A Ralfy collabo would be legendary.

Is this SMWS bottle paying homage to Serge Valentin?
Yeah, it is an homage to his reviews on whiskyfun.com

Danial; you should have worn the monocle while reading off the bottle notes.
Is that Ducati well oiled as in drunk
As long as Ralfy keeps the stay reasonable....hilarious....but true.
I would like to donate a bottle. What is the process to donate and to ensure that you have not already receive the same whiskey?
whiskymarketing.org/the-whisky-vault/
6:07 it is Lie - Chee, definitely not Lee-Chee 😊
It's actually Lychee (Līchee). The y is a long i sound.
Cured ham? So more or less bacon?
Obviously Frank Zappa. Gumbo Variations for the long finish.
So, what I took away from this episode is that Briana moonlights as a tasting notes copyrighter for The Scotch Malt Whiskey Society.
what's up with rex's hair??
'laichee' Pronunciation is very Cantonese, and lychee is originated in QuanDong China, so I would say it sounds very local😆
ok the distillery needs to do a whiskey call " self righteous aristocrat " with the most over the top tasting notes on the bottle.
Perhaps the question on everybody's mind why is the channel not monetized?
Hey guys someone help me out , new to whisky looking for anything similar in flavor to a hakushu 12, where its slightly peated.

Lie Chee! You referenced Pu Erh Cha (tea) like a BAMF! Don't go Lee Chee on me!
High West as well.
daniel you also said High West at one point. lol
You can really tell they upped the resolution
Daniel is king Bastard. It would be like the queen of England being knighted herself. She's the one who does the knighting.
Yes I need a skip Titan thanks video button. It’s ok until eagle and bear spirits get to the Tower. Just goes off the rail after that......... unless you’re appealing to the ridiculousness of the tribe. 😉
Greg Vangsness here. Running true to form guys! Lychees: It's (lie cheese) NOT Lee cheese. Never mind.
Daniel was right the first time pronouncing lychee!
Is Daniel a pirate today?
Who would want to skip the Titan animations? They're the highlight of every video!
Built in coffee-refill run filler!
Zappa Tasting Notes: Hot Rats, Lumpy Gravy, Uncle Meat and Burnt Weenie Sandwich.
Hint of toasted weasel on the finish.
Golden snow chill-filtered.
Followed by “Why does it Hurt when I Pee?”.
It's medicine
Please get ralphie in the vault

I pronounce it "Lie-Chee"
Rex is going bald
Decoty
What is going on with this man's hair?
Way late but “lie chee”
I take it this contains Clynelish
AH - OK - just got up to the point where Daniel says it's Clynelish distilliery :)
Lie chee
Why is Daniel talking like a leprechaun?
Because he is one
