@@charliesweb1k thanks so much for the video at what time can i put the eggs in the water my eggs are between 18 to 21days i wanna see if they are alive can i or shouldn't i move them? Because they say its bad cause they are trying to position to hatch or something?
Leslie Kesler I Cant comment to you since your setting wont let me so i thought i would comment here. you can candle eggs on day 7 to see if they have veins. you only water candle eggs that are to dark or no longer able to candle with a light and you do this in water :) thanks
This test is not always accurate. I had egg that would sink but hatched just like rest of eggs. baby chick is very healthy and active, just like others.
I tried this with 5 eggs. All 5 sank immediately and I saw no movement. I am so glad I didn't throw them away. I put them back in the nest and 4 out of the 5 hatched at days 21 and 22.
Thank you so much! This is the first time I've hatched eggs. I put 24 into the incubator, day 21 was May 6. Today is May 8 and I have 15 chicks and 9 unhatched eggs. I am happy that I found your video and the information it provides. I'm going to check the last 9 eggs. Next eggs to go in will be the guinea hens.
Mine floats just like that, but stays completely still. It's also not a chicken egg, it's a small sparrow egg, and I think it's around 7 days old but I really don't know. Is the water not warm enough?? Please please please reply soon!!!!!
Those eggs are about the same 100° for temperature and 40% to 45% humidity. Egg handling in the water is for eggs that you cannot use a light and that’s usually the last five days. At seven days old it only has a tiny bit of veins developing it won’t move in the water at all. Only float eggs you cannot candle.
@@charliesweb1k oh, thank you so much! Knowing that it's probably not suppose to wiggle makes me so relieved 😂 one last question, how come I can't both float & candle the eggs? (Not at the same time of course)
@@VivaMarie I always candle my eggs with my iPhone light. But when it’s so solid I can’t see inside I can’t tell if the baby is dead or alive. So that’s when I float the egg in the water and if it wiggles it’s alive if it sinks to the bottom it has no baby in it which means you never canceled it with the iPhone in the first place. If it floats sideways and wiggles really hard on its own and then stops it could be a rotten egg full of gas so be careful. Smell any questionable eggs and if they stink they’re rotten. If it wiggles completely on its own as you seen On the video and it’s alive and ready to hatch within five days. I only candle eggs I cannot see with a flashlight or iPhone light. Hopefully that answers your question.
@@charliesweb1k yes, it does, thank you! When you said you only tested it in water when you couldn't candle it, I just thought you meant that it would harm the eggs if I floated them and candled them both. one last question (I hope I'm not taking too much of your time), when I was writing so, so lightly an 'x' on my egg (it's a small egg, by the way, not a chicken egg), it cracked. It didn't break all the way through, though, only the way a pencil would make a small hole through paper. It happened on both of the eggs. Does this mean both of them are going to die? 😭
@@VivaMarie yes because you broke the bloom that protects the egg and when it has a crack it no longer keeps the proper temperature or moisture. Some people are successful using methods to cover it up but the percentage of viability is extremely low. Not all eggs are made equal when it comes to the shell so it made sense that yours broke. The bigger the egg the harder the shell to help holding all the yolk and whites. Also some breeds like water fowl have a thicker egg anyways. Tiny little eggs like that are thin shelled.Have a great weekend
I always keep them for a week more incase one hatches 5 days late. we all worry when it's day 20 or 21 if they don't hatch on time but it's normal if they are a day late or early depending on the consistant heat we incubated them at . good luck

That's so cool, I'd never heard of water candling! I just started watching chick videos for the baby eye candy. ; ) That DOES seem like a good idea, especially since the added moisture is an extra plus. Would it not help to candle the non-moving egg with a candle just to make sure? Just wondered.
i tried that first and when i can't candle a dark egg i water candle which is like 98% sure thing they are alive or not. with exp you will know when to water candle. i still try to hatch the chick so i have it marked :)
What's the earliest age the water candling would work? I mean surely it needs to get big enough to start squirming around in that thing. Lol Maybe Day 7 or Day 10 or something?
I've read through and can't see how many days these were? I see a comment not to expect wiggle at 11 days, so at what point would you expect to use this technique and see wiggle?

Wonderful video. I watched with intense interest. I am incubating a few chicken eggs. It is day 16 and they are all sinkers. Should I throw the ones that sink out? What would recommend I do?
the one's that sink have no air pockets and no baby will live even if it starts to grow it will die off soon. the one's that float and just barly floot are okay. so give them some more time and they should be okay, also they move a lot aroung the last week before hatching and they barly move 2 weeks before hatching. I did it because I had a bad egg in the bunch that leaked all over the incubator (ugh!) and I wanted to be sure that the rest were okay. I'm at day 17 (I'll lock down tomorrow).
Hi, Great video - I hope it's ok, but I linked this video in a comment for my subscribers to watch that had questions on knowing when chicks are alive. You have great narration and good information in this video. I'd like to share your video with anyone who would like more information on this technique.
Daughter : Hey Charles chicks I have a egg that has 5 days left till hatching and it has a foul smell so should I wait or break it and most of the egg is in the water inside the egg it’s just dark should I keep it?
Wow this is awesome! What day would be best to do this? I have a hen I got from a lady who had roosters ( we dont have any ) and I heard they can store sperm for awhile... Shes been sitting on a few eggs and I was wondering when what day would be good to try this ?
you can't those you have to take out when you smell the eggs an it smells . this means the person who sold you eggs pick them up 2 days later and they now have hormones in them from the hen sitting on them. this is why you pick eggs up daily to prevent that since you don't want her to start incubating them. incubation starts 24 hours later, so eggs that start to smell take them out :)
I love the questions that are already answered when watching the video. Do people watch the damn video on muted? I just don't get it!!! It's not just this video, I see it in almost every video. Even the one I watched before, the guy said he's been doing steroids since he was 18, and still on them today. Then I've read comments like, "are you natural or did you ever do steroids?" Holy crap, listen to the person talk!!! The water temperature is about 105 degrees, not ice water and not boiling!!! I don't know how I got here from watching the Russian fails, but then, I've watched it anyway. I guess I'm bored but at least I paid attention because learning is beautiful.

where is the airpocket in the eggs at the point or rounded bass
Round :)
Air sac is at the base. When incubating / storing eggs they should be pointed side down
The fat end holds the air sac.
Thank you so much for this! I did this today but didn't know to watch for the wiggle. Would it be safe to do it again before lockdown? I did it because I had a bad egg in the bunch that leaked all over the incubator (ugh!) and I wanted to be sure that the rest were okay. I'm at day 17 (I'll lock down tomorrow).
Hi, Great video - I hope it's ok, but I linked this video in a comment for my subscribers to watch that had questions on knowing when chicks are alive. You have great narration and good information in this video. I'd like to share your video with anyone who would like more information on this technique.
Thank you so much you have my permission. It’s a public video. Hugs
@@charliesweb1k Thanks!!
Daughter : Hey Charles chicks I have a egg that has 5 days left till hatching and it has a foul smell so should I wait or break it and most of the egg is in the water inside the egg it’s just dark should I keep it?
yay very cool and they are Saxony ducks :) so far looking like a pair :)
this is a really good video
good idea :)
I assume you are using 99 degree water? And how far along are the eggs?
dang9669 until you can no longer candle them so the last week
Aw. Poor little embryo... :(
Which day is this
Usually after day 15 or 16 you can do this
I have a duck egg it is at 21 days it doesnt move is there any chance it is still alive?
@Sunflower Growing Ducks hatch at 28 DAYS!!!!!!!
So you do water candle to see if the chick is still alive once the egg is totally dark?
What temperature is the water?
100 or up to 105 only :)
I'll need to calculate to Celsius
Between 37.7 and 40°C ;)
Thanks
Gordon Pilcher 100
Aaawwww so cute, that's lucky I'm getting 2 more ducks on Sunday can't wait :D x
warm water? what temp?
close to 35 C or 95 F. Probably warm water close to those temperatures are fine.
that is awesome :)
how to control temperature ?
please tell me
I am use 60 watt light bulb
+Tony Oliveira hugs to you :) thanks for making that point out loud , i think it all the time but i have no energy to answer again hahhah :) hugs
+Charlie... Likewise, hugs back at you. I'm surprised no one has asked if these are hard boiled. Actually, maybe someone has! LOL
Calm yo tits
I have eggs due on Friday :) I used the old method water candling and their alive!! It's so fun when stuff works:)
WHAT DAY ARE YOU CANDLING THESE EGGS
5 days before or when they are just to dark to candle. I also candle sometimes a few days before like 2-3 days before.
Nice video
wow! i thought that you shouldnt let the eggs wet?!
that's so cool dose this work with finch eggs ?
I would imagine you would have to make sure the water is the same temperature as in the incubator you would kill the egg
does float mean fertile
