I realize now, after actual years of playing PS4 (WITH HEADPHONES on occasion), that the cable on the H3 plugs into the jack on the controller. I rescind my prior statements on the cable length. It's a good length. - Adam
so size does matter...
I was about to comment as soon as you mentioned that 😂
You can use any headphones with a jack on the ps4/5 controller.
How con you do a review and not know that? After "years" of playing?
OOFFFF....
the editing where they kept cutting back in and he had different stickers every time... mint
It looks like a lot of the same design cues are shared with the WH-1000XM5. They were probably developed together and/or by the same design team, especially the tilt mechanism on the H9 and the headband design
Fun fact about the xm5s, you in fact can rotate them either cup down or up, I dropped mine and now they rotate both ways and still work.
You did this with so much bad energy, that you failed to think about that. Throwing the papers away, opening the packages with a bad attitude, reading with that blah blah blah 😑 … sorry, but it was a horrible experience watching this.
@@SpeedGio what the hell are you talking about.
@@azaril7780 I am equally confused
@@TheMstwntdLMSV123 Confusion 100
I think you're supposed to plug the headphones into your controller, so they figured you wouldn't need independent wireless
Yes, that’s what the pinned comment says.
Late to the party but I don't think you can use the 3d spatial audio feature only using the headphone jack.
@@Matthew-fz3zmand how to use it on a PC? It does not work fully, then the dialogues are not heard, then some channels . It 's nonsense . the PlayStation seems to have its own dsp, some kind of tempast or something like that, but how this will be implemented in the gamepad is not clear)
Kinda was hoping to hear the more expensive headphone’s microphone
Right?! That's actually what I'm most likely to look for in gaming headsets, so it would have been nice to at least know if there's a difference at all
@@nothisistoni it's serviceable. I have a ~$60 cardioid mic on my desk, so idgaf about mic quality
@@berengerchristy6256 ok so? others might not :p
Back in my day, we used to connect everything to our consoles with a wire. We learned not to walk between the player and the TV, and if we did, we hopped over the wires like it's a jump rope.
Then a random parent or sibling would randomly trip over the wire just at a critical moment
Grandpa you tell this story every Thanksigivingggg
The cable length comment has been shown to be irrelevant. It’s been discussed at LENGTH. Heh
And then there's the switch where the cable has to reach the console still.
@@venkaramon don't forget the dog
forgot to mention that the H9s can play back both the audio from the bluetooth and 2.4ghz connections at the same time. so you can have the connected to your ps5 for gameplay and your laptop for a discord call
So it's a good contender for arctis 9/nova pro wireless. Better than razer's top tier barracuda which you have to switch between sources (stupidest implementation) or Logitech's g435.
But based on the price, you'd get more out of the nova pro than H9 imo. Swappable battery, hub that can have 2 inputs. And it has less price.
Damn, I was in the market for exactly that
Yeah the Steel series 9X do the same thing too
Oh that's awesome, really nice to have!
so that what discord approval is, very nice feature to have that
"Sony, you did OK. You could have done better."
That's pretty high praise from ShortCircuit.
Especially on the low end I don't want wireless. You're always giving up on something if your on a budget so if it has wireless or features like noise canceling your sacrificing build, battery, audio quality or comfort. Especially since I mostly use headphones at my desk it being wired is perfectly fine, that way I don't have to worry about batteries running out halfway a gaming session either. For on the go I do like wireless but then I'm looking at in-ears. I can see wireless being a selling point if you have a large living room but this is 2022 and expecting gamers to actually afford houses with large living rooms is cute if not a bit insulting xD
i think he meant from a console perspective but forgot that you plug your headset into the controller. made a pinned comment about it
The batteries last about 32 hours and you can use it while charging I don't think you'd be using it for 32 hours straight also the audio quality is surprisingly really clear so unless you use xbox then there's not really any problem
i don’t like wired headphones (i have them and wireless too) specially when working home office can’t walk around house free and talking while doing something or cooking in meetings (unless putting the speakers but not easy to talk that way), or when playing whit friends I can’t go for food or water or anything very practically, or even pee or go with dogs or idk, open the door without saying wait me and putting the speakers 🔊 no idea what’s going on, on the game or the talk
Just charge them when you’re done
I feel like at $300 with dual connectivity, it puts them in the same category as the Arctis Pro Wireless, and Corsair Virtuoso XT, which both also have dual connectivity and are around the same price. I think a head to head comparison of these headsets, or possibly a roundup of dual connectivity headsets could be a good addition to the channel
100% agreed, although for that price I'm spending the extra 60 and getting the arctis nova pro, that has all the same features plus a second battery that can be hot swapped.
but active noise cancelling
@@NawWeeMan The Arctis Nova are not comfortable atleast for me, and my freinds (5 people said the same)
@@NawWeeMan because 32hrs isn’t long enough? How long do you game for LoL
@@RiccoFX it’s more you don’t have to remember to charge it and there’s no cables needed for charging just swap the thing out and your straight back to wireless again
These new headphones (& the monitors) are going to be used at EVO (a major fighting game tournament that Sony has partial ownership of) this year, so it’s nice to see that the products themselves are pretty good. Although part of me wonders if this is preparing for EVO to transition to PS5 next year.
IKR although I think Sony is trying to market them as an audiophile grade headset since they sell high end headphones and earbuds but this doesn't look like anything near as good sounding as something in those categories of products they sell
I mean, it's not like high-fidelity audio and/or positional audio is necessary for fighting games IMO. Most entrants would be able to get by just fine with almost any headphone/earbud/headset, without any loss of ability. EVO could pick whoever wanted to pay them the most and make everyone use them, it doesn't necessarily mean they're good.
oh they absolutelly are, so i hope we get a high quality PS5 Fight Stick
@@daniolus The issue was less about the sound quality in more about input lag, especially if Sony is going to push the wireless version for tournament play.
@@Artista_Frustrado All officially-licensed PS4 sticks work on PS5, so we should be good to go regardless.
Did I miss the second headset mic test? I understand that gaming headset mics aren't typically great, but it seemed like this review focused a lot on things like sound staging etc. when the more important stuff for a gaming headset is usability and convenience.
Yeah I was confused as well.
It was fun having Adam (AKA mini Luke) do the video but for audio I have found that I much prefer Dan.
Agreed, Dan should be the only one touching audio products. I understand it's nice to have variety when in hosts/videos, but it's like someone other than Anthony doing a retro/Linux video. Let people use their strengths so we get the best of each team member.
I really struggle to enjoy Adam, he seems to force it rather than Dan who just naturally comes across as the knowledgeable dope and is great at it
I am VERY surprised (positively) by the H3 mic quality. Take that same cash and look at any alternative gaming headset and it's not even comparable!
its comparable to the studio mic just with clear lower quality sounding
Microphone is on par with $10 chinese IEMs, what do you mean?
Man, Luke has changed a lot since I last saw him.
(jk)
yea man, i also thought it was luke in the thumbnail
The editor really took their time of fun for Adam.
6:48 Linus might be proud of his segue ways but that one was Gold standard.
I think they leaned into their experience with the WH series to make some of the best gamer headphones
Testing high-end headphones with music from RUclips is like testing Lamborghini with engine from old Ford Focus. RUclips has shitty audio bit rate.
Agreed but I think a lot of people will watch RUclips with this headphones if it is for PC.
You think those are high-end headphones? lmao
10:02 The white blinking LED on the ear cups looked like the black circle where the headband starts is expanding on camera 😂
That he chose steely Dan as a test song in that final 3rd of the video makes him a winner.
Napster did a great job on personal tuning. You just get surround sound from different sources one after another and you'd have to tell when you start to hear a noise.
And I would do different profiles for different headphones and my car speakers.
This worked really good.
For the wired headset, you can plug it into the bottom of the PS5 controller. So you don't need to worry about cable length.
You should look at pinned comments before you comment.
@@jordanmartinetti8224 they should have known that for someone who put hours into gaming, or while editing the video lol.
Nice review, I currently have the HyperX Cloud Alpha's and was thinking if I should "upgrade" to the h9s. Spatial audio for the time being is a bit more than a gimmick so besides that I dont see a real reason to change. Also I kind of like pluging the headset to the controller because its one less device I need to remember to charge, although I'll be honest any and all 3.5 cables WILL fail eventually. At least you can buy replacement ones
I think he may have glazed over this in his review but I'm currently using the h9s hooked up bluetooth on my phone and ps5 (via dongle) at the same time. I can hear both audios!! Pretty cool.
The H3 mic has a completely different sound, but at least it captures everything very well and doesn't have breathing distortion like their old headphones and ear buds. Not bad mics, at least.
Really like the Inzone range and really curious to hear you guys' opinion on the M9
isn't spatial audio more of a 'keeping the sound in position when you move your head' than it is 3d audio?
The question is… how do they compare to the Pulse 3D headset???
Juan🐎🐎
I tied on the pulse 3d headset at a store. It sucked. I’m assuming inzone is better
I've got the h9s after using the pulse set and I can confirm that the h9s sound a lot more full than the pulse set.
@@MrReaper1171 Well, it's a 200$ difference :D I would be disappointed if it didn't sound better.
@@tannere6151 The Pulse is fine for what it is at this price point. It's pretty comfortable and the sound is good for 100$ and wireless. Only the microphone on that is just not usable. It sounds like crap.
Do you still get spatial audio if you connect directly to ps5 controller without the dongle?
Like the little flashing lights on the H9 to tell you the noise cancelling is on.
i love the new hoodie design love the purple in the hood. as much as i want it. i just cant afford to drop 100 quid on a single hoodie
I don't have the shortcircuit hoodie but I have the wan hoodie it's based on and that is definitely worth the price. It's so much higher quality then I expected although the French terry is pretty heavy so you can't really wear it in the summer without wondering if your gonna get heat stroke or not.
"without having to sign up for anything" frantic zoom, nice haha
No mention of the Pulse 3D headphones for PS5, still wondering that.
I think the cord is a little short because is supposed to be connected to the Dualsense and the USB adapter have an extra cm to extend more.
I did NOT expect anyone affiliated with LTT to even be aware of Steely Dan, so seeing that he listened to the Aja album was a big (and very welcome) surprise.
_Aja_ is immaculately mixed. Hailed as one of the best albums to listen to for testing out audio equipment.
@@jamescruz8678 Indeed, and rightfully so. I just wasn't expecting these guys to use anything but the goddamn Crab Rave song, much less something actually good!
Oh damn! A Thank You Scientist shirt! That's awesome, I love those guys!
Was that a Thank You Scientist shirt? Great taste in music my friend!
Nice Singin' in the Rain reference. That should be the mic test from now on
It looks like the Bluetooth ones have rings that have lights at the top of the ear cuff.
I would love to see y'all review the Mark Levinson 5909, now that the lab is up and running!
I was hoping this is actually using similar noise cancelling chip as 1000XM5, I mean the headphone even look similar, but considering the price I was probably high when I thought of that.
Those look like the premium versions of the pulse 3D headset
That Steely Dan album used for testing here is an awesome production
Did you had Ambient Mode active during noise cancelling testing?
I remember their ps3 surround headphones were awesome, I had that pair until it fell apart, I am setting the expectations high for this.
As far as the spatial audio stuff goes, are you sure you didn't have it enabled in the windows mixer as well? That may have been what was causing an issue.
Does anyone know what monitor they were using while testing out the headsets whole connected to the PS5?
wow that mic test was surprisingly fun! sounded delicious and I learned a new tongue twister!
Which portable monitor did you guys use for the Ps5 test? thanks
I've had the Inzone H7s for about a year now, they work great for me. No problems using them with my PS5 and phone at the same time, sound great as well.
Loving the snark around the 'In Zone' branding.
So is there any reason why you guys didn't do a mic check on headset unboxing / first impression?
Was the video sped up? I had to check if I was set at1.25 speed.
What is that monitor he is using in the PS5 Spatial audio test with returnal?
Looking at the box, the first thing I thought of were the turrets from Portal.
After that mic test, when is the mixtape dropping?
The way he said vague rocked me coming out of nowhere.
Don’t be such a vague.
The PS5 already has a $99 dollar wireless headset in the SONY Pulse 3D, so those $99 H3 headsets that are wired are 99% for the PC market. The other H7 or H9 ones that are wireless would be un upgrade from the PULSE 3D to use on the PS5 or the PC
YOU SHOULD COMPARE THE PULSE 3D to the H3 and H7 and H9 for PS5
There's plenty of better options even for PC too
I have the pulse 3D headset and I'm watching this to see if I'm missing out on something because the pulse headset is bluetooth and you can use the wire it comes with if you don't want to charge it up, you'll just be unavailable to use a couple of features that it will have while in bluetooth mode but yeah I would like to see the pulse comparison to these headsets as well.
But what about chat game audio mix?
Is there an app in the PS5 in which you can also change settings? And is it connected via Bluetooth?
I like how there is an option to turn OFF off so if you remove the check there does it just never run out of battery? ;)
Dude, razer have been doing dongles like this for a while now, barracuda is the only one I know who did that for no reason
Great review, love the snarky IDK approach...lol
Ah! I see. You are making a catalog of headsets for the labs. I really love the odea of labs. Kindly revisit the hyperx cloud 2
What display are you using in this video?
Did I miss the h9 mic test or was there not one?
Now THAT was a sponsor segue. Taking tips from the big boss?
Adam, did you go to school for, or are an audio engineer? The childhood flashbacks when you did the mic test were very real. Dad was an audio engineer at CBC Radio for 17 years.
And you go for Aja by Steely Dan to test audio. Don't forget to also use 10,000 Days from Tool as well.
Another good thing about this headset is it doesnt have the name scheme of the XM5s lineup, thank god
Actually the full model name is WH-G900N (for the H9).
I'm wondering if these have been designed with the psvr2 in mind
Good stuff! Great review! Thank you
You can see the jump cuts based on the presence of the stickers.
the earpads are most likely clip ons removable. Ive seen sony headphones with this type of mechanism for changing earpads
Still can't believe LMG cannot buy some rights to certain music for testing audio to this day.
The inzone H7 is the way to go out of the three for sure. ANC & added battery drain isn’t necessary on the H9 for the extra cost.
Can you tell me, on PS5 do you get a remaining battery level indicator on screen?
It does display the battery level on ps5
honestly, how much noise canceling do you need when gaming? Maybe if you play in an Arcade, but at home?
It's so weird that whenever anyone LMG related takes a look at a Sony device, they completely ignore all information, go in raw, and completely miss or mistake a feature the device has.
Yeah I wonder if there is something with Sony where they give LMG no/to little/bad information, or if Sony just doesn't care that much, because the reviews are still pretty good, and LMG uses that, to fit it into the schedule more easily.
Sony marketing at it again. They probably don't give enough details and LMG also partly on fault for not researching enough but still
Agreed with this completely. Sometimes for a review channel, it amazes how little research they do into the products they are supposed to be reviewing. This is especially true for Sony, but also can be true for other products.
@@z_wulf Only that they don't post reviews on ShortCircuit but unboxings and first impressions...
Basically because sony doesn’t want to steer a review. Unlike lg who sends shitty tv’s to gaming channels (never to tv channels) and pays them to say good things
How's the mic monitoring for the ps5? I wanna hear the game, hear my friends and hear my voice.
There should be more pre-sets for the eq, there is a scroll > < at the edge of the three he tested!?
The hard AF taps on the headband caught me off guard :P
cant you plug the cable into the handset/controller on a playstation? so the wire length isnt so much of an issue. Still dont think i'd ever get these at their prices using G935 myself, not great but serviceable. Still waiting for a half way decent wireless headset that doesnt cost as much as a current gen console.
Intro was gold
Do they have party chat volumes like the pulse
How do these compare with Sonys other offering? They also have a wireless headset for ps5 and PC.
Is the microphone feedback loud?
I still think the core Corsair virtuoso are the best sounding when it comes to the microphone especially because they have a wireless option as well and it's still sounds good while other headsets tend to downgrade the mic once it goes Wireless
This is Luke Alex. Luke + Alex.
Sony's NC headphones are pretty good, let's see these
Nobody is gonna talk about the game chat audio mix function outside of parties?
I hope they got great noise cancelling like XM series.
Please try the h7's I wanna now if that is a better buy than the h9's.
I believe that when it comes to any type of ear personalization I think it should be the same way that Samsung does it which is they do a hearing test which is a series of different frequencies played and you check yes or no if you can hear it it takes a long time to get through it but it's well worth it and it's a lot more accurate
maybe the cable is short because you have to connect it to the controller i use my headphones connected to the controller and my controller plugged in to the ps5 since i sit like 4 feet away from the ps5
Just so you know, there is a HUGE shortage of low cost wifi modules, which is completely screwing nearly all vendors when planning out and going to market with low-priced models.
Nice review and all, but I think you forgot the mic test on the 300$ model :c
I mean yeah you did the other one but wireless and mic+audio quality tends to be an issue
I'm still using my old hyper x headset, got them in 2015, still kicking, sounds great still, the ear cubs have shed their outer coating though, lol
