I think he was totally within himself, hating and fidgeting to give interviews which he probably thought was an intrusion into his mind and he rather be somewhere else thinking and writing or singing another gem.

      @sm "Where did you get the idea for 'Sign on The Window"? It has such nice chord changes...harkens back to a rural , small town time, that seems to be disappearing, except in our collective imagination". I would talk to him as one songwriter to another....chord changes, lyrical ideas, how did he construct certain songs, what gave him the idea at the time, etc....i think he would like to talk more about his craft. He seems to brighten up when asked about that. He came out in the last few years and said that Mr Tambourine Man was inspired by his friend playing a big old tambourine at a jam session, for instance. I would have added, "That was a real nice idea...to start on the four chord in that song rather than the one...makes the song hang between the key of G and the key of D" I would also compliment him on his melodies...something he doesn't get enough credit for.....I would ask him about the songs "I don't Believe you" and "Who Killed Davey Moore"....two gems that aren't spoken about much......

    Bob Dylan used to come into my friend's dad's store every week when he was in town. That was Papa Bach's Paperbacks in Santa Monica (which I believe no longer exists). When he did, they closed the store for everyone but him, so he could buy the Wall Street Journal. Quite the people's musician, was Bob. And a real nitty-gritty streetwise musician. You could tell by the way he insisted the store be closed for him alone so he could read about his stocks in the Wall Street Journal. Somehow, my golden idol was tarnished after that.

    I didn’t know journalists were border line intellects . I actually thought they went to university ; imagine my surprise to , “ how many protest singers are there today “ ? Bob answers “about 136 “. “ Well is it exactly 136 “? Bob “ maybe 142 “. Journalist ...“ Are you at the apex of your career “ ? They sound like 3-4 year olds asking Batman questions . Dylan gives the three year olds their answers . “Do you consider yourself a legend “? If you have to ask ...

    Interviewer: What do you know about organic farming?
    Dylan: Nothing.

    Dylan was spot on. Despite his notoriety as history and time progressed Billy the Kid was labeled a "legend" and/or a "folk hero". But such labels were given to him by others and not the kid himself. The same applies to Dylan in his line of work. he doesn't place labels on himself . Some of these things are so obvious one has to wonder why anyone would ask such questions to begin with.

    I'm reminded of something I heard on "Ted & Lex", on Double Jay (Anyone remember the great Ted & Lex show? - Ted Robinson & Lex Marinos, I guess late 70s or very early 80's) - never seen or heard the interview, but according to T&L, someone asked him something like "What would you be if you weren't a 'folk singer' ?" & he answered "A ditch-digger named Joe... or a butcher..." They responded "Can you expand on that?" & Bob answered "Yeah, big chunks of meat..."

    • @broscosmoline
      @broscosmoline 6 лет назад

      ha - forgot about that one. in the late 70's, a series of "_____ in their own words" pop culture books were published in the uk, and the one on bob dylan - largely compiled by barry miles - captured the ditch-digger reference, & many other funny allusions ("vegetables & death"") as well. worth seeking out.

    Saw him in Kalamazoo and he walked on the stage, sang, and walked off. Never said a word. It seemed all very mechanical and like he didn't care. This was 20 years ago. I wonder what was up.

    This young Dylan fellow is living very dangerously! He should try meditating. The Maharishi once said that "Perceptual reality regulates ephemeral boundaries" Or was it "Your movement is inextricably connected to objective life"?
    Well, either one would help young Mr. Dylan!
    And of course some Transcendental Meditation! This taught the true believers how to fly! Yes, Bob Dylan (and YOU) can fly if you practice the above meditations.
    Some fermented juice from the fruit of the sacred Upanishad Tree will also help!
