Great review, RR. I understand the concept of making the meals friendly for all to eat but maybe instead of two meals of beans in the God awful looking gravy, they could have made maybe a rice and bean dish as well. For me, the protein bar and apples were all that I probably would eat. The apples would be nice warm like Stauffers hot apple TV (dessert) item. Wishing you and Mrs. RR a great rest of your day.
If you are really hungry you will eat everything in that packet. Remember, these are not rations for comfort, they are survival rations. That said, stocking up some dry beans and rice is much cheaper than these meals, just not as convenient.
Simple thing to do when you get something you fo not eat, trade it for something you do. For instance, i'm Hindu and do not eat beef, so when I come across something with beef products incorporated onto it (broth, meat, flavoring) I would just trade it with someone who has a chicken or pork entree. In an emergency food fatigue can become a problem with morale so the more options there are the higher thr morale of people in an emergency that can help then through it. Plus MRE components can be broken down and mixed to makeCV other things like that sweet potaro smoothie could be mixed with a cracker and the proteing bar (see if the protein bar dissolves in the smoothie mix, if not make it into small pieces) and mixed with the sunflower butter spread and could become a type of lunch.
Note neither jews or Muslims will eat PORK as it's a sin, they will both accept beef, every time as a trade. Rich Muslims will not accept chicken as it is considered poor man's food. And jews will not accept shellfish of any kind if they are following the old testament. It is forbidden to them.
Guess if you've just experienced an event not normal in your daily life and you've found yourself in a food line or something like one and were handed this and a couple bottled waters, you'd be thankful and scarf it down. Now, if you had been prepared and standing in your home with all of your preps safe and sound, others would be envious of you for knowing that being prepared is better than not. You choose.
Well I do understand. I'm cutting cost. Because the cheaper they are to make the more they can make. The more they can make. The more they can supply. But there could be a few improvements. ( Like spices and herbs ) BUT ! .... But they really do need to make sure there's a variety of flavors.
I appreciate that you tear the pouches practically, instead of whipping out your jack hawk 5000 bowie knife and snipping a corner to squeeze everything out a dime size hole
Usually in a survival situation, you may have things like salt and pepper, but no substantial food. Also yes, the "smoothie" is baby food. Thats one of the good changes they made a while back. If you had a baby to feed, im sure someone would trade their smoothie for a first strike bar.
I’ve always considered the sweet potato grape smoothies and being an infants food, I know if I was eating these when things get bad I would be saving these to give to mothers to make sure their babies have plenty of food to eat.
Thanks for doing this review. I use MREs for all day hunting stand food and the meal diversity is one of the complaints I've had with the boxes you get off of Amazon. I'll steer away from this menu item for sure when I'm in the trees. 😅
I've started to accumulate boxes of different versions of these meals ready to eat for a time when the door has the unprepared at it looking for handouts. My kind heart would hand them out and direct the people to "move on and forget they were ever here". Their return would not be a pleasant one for them. In short, have something to pass out that you would only eat as the last resort in your situation. Clears room for other barter items coming in as trade as they dwindle out to the needy.
Sorry, but the unprepared are on their own. Give just one something and you'll be under siege. It would be like feeding stray cats. I know because I'm coming up on year six of being stuck with an old orange cat I fed.
I have never starved but have been extremely hungry and at those times this would have been well received. Am surprised fema is actually doing something since Milton.
I could see these being mixed in with military MREs or supplemented by whatever salvaged/scavenged food is available locally; the complaint about the food being bland sounds more like they designed it to be as palatable to as many kinds of people as possible (with whatever dietary requirements they may have) as well as being as easy to stomach for people who might be at their weakest (mentally and medically). It would be really bad to trigger an allergy or other medical condition for the sake of giving food more taste (something easily fixed where its served).
My guess is they went with affordability with this. Beans are cheap, so is maltodextrin. There’s no seasoning because it increases cost and may trigger someone’s allergies. Sunflower seed butter is likely less of an allergen than peanut butter. I’d imagine the maltodextrin was added to make the beans edible for all pallets. Almost no one will turn down sweet. “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down”. Beans have a healthy amount of protein. Potatoes have vitamin C. So there’s little need to fortify the food much. Protein, sugar vitamin C. The sweet potatoes have vitamin A. The apples have vitamin C. Sunflower butter has fat. A healthy sampling of everything for bare bones nutrition. It looks like it would be edible cold or hot. I hate to say that I imagined bean salad like you see at social gatherings with vinegar and sugar. Thought that was going to be super tasty.
If they were being honestabout this ration & HDR's, they would call thienm 18 hour reactions, & nit a 24 hour rations. When people talk about food they consume in a 24 hour ration, most people think of the breakfast, lunch, dinner, beverages, & snacks they will consume during that time period. These only have 2 main meals. You may be able to squeeze out a snack, but barely.
They deliberately use as little spices as possible for people with allergies/sensitivity. I've eaten HDR meals before several times. Some of them are terrible. Some of them are OK. None of them were good. My problem with these is that they design all the meals to include as many food restrictions as possible when only a very small percentage of the people eating these will be actual vegans or have serious food allergies. And people who refuse to eat these for religious or spiritual reasons should starve. Especially vegans who eat they way they do for "humanitarian" reasons. Survival is eat or be eaten. Funny thing about kosher/halal is that it is specifically stated in those religious texts that you can break the food rules in an emergency or when starving if no other option is available. I guess a lot of people don't actually read the rule book they live by.
It's lame that they choose worse tasting foods that everyone has to ear just because a small percentage of people may have dietary restrictions based on choice. But something tells me they actually just want to make these rations as cheaply as possible, but making it seem like they are doing it out of compassion for vegetarians lol
I was thinking the same, paranoid about offending dietary needs by having no pork or beef or meat in general (luxury values in a crisis) but will kill off a diabetic.
Please pardon my harsh language, but… The Survivors will be gassed up and farting like a pack mule. Love your videos, put I couldn’t let that one pass, I am a career Sailor after all, 23 years in Uncle Sam’s Canoe Club.😊
personal taste here on this, pass. hate kidney beans, that ingreident is in both mains. can't have bell peppers of any kind. the smoothie is baby food. am curisore on the sunflower butter.
This appears to be one of the most disgusting meals you have ever reviewed!! Sweet Potato Grape smoothie??? Uggggh!! Thanks for taking the hit so we dont have to!!🙏
99% of prep is “store beans and rice” cause they offer the most nutrients for the weight and longevity And they can last longer than most MREs if prepped properly
Those rations, and the HDR are really terrible. I'm sure they are better than nothing, but the taste is unusually bland and lacking compared to other countries versions of the same. Kudos to the baby food however, that's good thinking.
The government better put peoples guns before passing out the food to American. 😂😂😂 After years of high taxes. No coffee, cream or sugar. Not good, not good of safe..
Not for a starving diabetic.. you have to eat smaller quantities over time.. However you cannot target every dietary problem in mass produced rations.. This would be a hard ration for a diabetic. But it could be eaten if you really stretched it out..
Looks like a demoralizing meal to make you be more dependent on daddy government. Absolutely no need for those to be like that. They could have made those better than that. Im absolutely ashamed of the American government right now. America is the laughing stock of rhe world right now. I could tell you exactly why but if I do, they suspend me of commenting for a day.
Someone completely missed the point of the name and ration's need, but with how charged this comment is, you probably don't care for "factual information", anyways.
This would leave me wishing the disaster had taken me out 😂😂😂
The disaster is going to be coming out his ass after all them beans!
"Humanitarian" rations offend no one and also please only those starving. But the starving will eat anything.
Great review, RR. That looks like a great reason to become a prepper and have your own disaster food supply. So you never have to eat that stuff.
First ration I've ever seen packaged on my birthday and another great review

And you had better be very well armed.

Excellent review. SDRs are an improvement over C-ration boxes from my military days imho.
Great review!

New HDR minus the cookies and pop tart. Thank you for sharing. Blessings 🙏🏼👍🏼
Nice.. I like getting the girls to review various meals here in the Philippines..
Thank you, great written explanation and verbal comparison of other rats.
I will get this and try it.
Excellent review as always

Awesome review RR
Beans and more beans! Talk about gassy!!! 😂😂
Not bad all in all. They do the job as required. Not in thebUK yet tho
I saw, "Diaria" on the case text. Thats what happens after you eat that meal.
My rational mind: "that means 'daily' in Spanish."
The rest of my mind: 🤡💩💀
chachacha😅
I have also had those bean dishes in the HDR.
They're a gas ! 😁
But are they as lethal as the dreaded vegetable omlet MRE was? That thing could unload a fart that cleared rooms and peeled paint
How did it do during hurricane helene? Im genuinely curious.

New SDR new item! "Oops! All menus 1's!"
😂
Greetings from Germany 😊
On that weird part of youtube again and cant stop watching
Not a fan of Ameriqual, but looks like they have improved their item content and quality. Thanks for the review.
Beans and rice would be a good choice for that meal
Just picked up a case off Ebay for $36. Not bad for the price. Still better than the low sodium rations!
You can add salt easier than you can meat and spices.
NicE. Have a great day.
I have never starved but have been extremely hungry and at those times this would have been well received. Am surprised fema is actually doing something since Milton.
I’d become one farting fool after eating this but if you’re hungry you’ll pound this with no complaints.
The smell will warn you where the FEMA camps are
Where in the world did you get these?
I could see these being mixed in with military MREs or supplemented by whatever salvaged/scavenged food is available locally; the complaint about the food being bland sounds more like they designed it to be as palatable to as many kinds of people as possible (with whatever dietary requirements they may have) as well as being as easy to stomach for people who might be at their weakest (mentally and medically). Beans, beans the musical fruit. The more you eat the more you toot.
🎶 The more you toot, the better you feel, so give me beans with every meal...🎵
Can you please do an NRE review please.
I'm curious as to why you don't ever provide a source where you got the rations from.
Because I'm not in the business of selling rations.
@@ReadinessRations Yeah, I meant where YOU got it from. Some might want to purchase them.
Another top notch review, my friend.
I hate to go all political, but you asked, survive what? The answer is another Democratic President!
HDR's simply has more options despite being vegetarian. Im sure there are other menus for these. We will have to see what those are like.
it would seem these rations could do with something along the lines of an extra long life re packaged Uncle Bens rice pouch

If I just lost everything in a disaster of any kind, I would be grateful to anyone who handed me one of those...
Beans Beans the magical fruit🤨
Me and the boys eating BEANZ after surviving a disaster. Beans beans their good for your heart the more you eat...
Only if I was really hungry. I would use these for trade.
I've always been curious about North Korean MRE's. I figured they are better than what civilians eat.
nice shirt
Looks like its best eaten when your HUNGRY!
16 minutes is too long. But I liked what you said
It looked fine but like you think it would get old fast !
If they were being honestabout this ration & HDR's, they would call thienm 18 hour reactions, & nit a 24 hour rations.

Try to get some Slovak or Czech MRE 🇸🇰🇨🇿
I'd think the peanut butter would be better than sunflower
If I have no other option, is cannibalism available?
Survival would seem less ominous than Surviver😅

“Based on choice”
Most vegetarians do it cause they have medical conditions
Not just vegetarian, but vegan! No dairy products at all.
They could have one entree with vegetarian meat , at least.
It appears the government is ready to write off diabetics with this ration because of the high sugar content.
I was thinking the same, paranoid about offending dietary needs by having no pork or beef or meat in general (luxury values in a crisis) but will kill off a diabetic.

It's nice to know Chaz Bono is living his best life!
🤣🤣🤣
It's a survivor ration because the others don't need food.
If you don’t like beans… sol
2,250 calories per day and way too much refined sugar. 🤔🤔
If you were diabetic, you’d be screwed. Seems like all the calories came from extreme amounts of added sugar.
Ok no meat? Guess it’s bbq rat time
Better than starving, but not that much better.
Not everyone would want or like spices
Should have left it alone
Meel not mill.
You all have had enough Beans
So says Mister Taggert at the campfire….
With all those beans, be ready for blastoff
personal taste here on this, pass. hate kidney beans, that ingreident is in both mains. can't have bell peppers of any kind. the smoothie is baby food. am curisore on the sunflower butter.

How much tax payer money blown per case on this bland slop ?
