The hole in one that wasn't.

- For one brief moment we all thought I'd had a hole in one. It wasn't. It was just a fold in the green and despite my shot being right down the banner it was a little short.
This round was at one of the cheaper courses. It wasn't in a good state and the greens were very slow.
It also highlighted an issue with people who choose to walk a course. He wanted a lift on everybodies golf cart which is not permitted. He therefore decided to become a thourough pain the arse to everyone but me in particular as I had a camera.
5 balls are just too confusing. Too much going on and not sure when you can play. This one guy is from a country that does not play ready golf. He would take 2 shots to my 1 and complain anytime I played out of turn. I should of waited for him to walk 120 yards and play his third before I played my second. Thank goodness I didn't have to play with him again.

Hi Simon, I sensed your frustration there, I can't imagine what playing with5 balls and 8balls is like. You did well. Ron
Having been pushed into playing a 5 ball I have no idea why anybody would want to do it out of choice. As to an 8 ball! Cheers Ron
Mornin' Simon, Sounds a bit of a nightmare round to me with so many people on the green at the same time and behind an eight ball as well. In a funny way it made me think of the queues of people trying to get to the summit of Everest that you sometimes see.
On your previous rounds the caddies apperaed to be dressed in uniform or matching clothing which I thought was very professional.
Anyway, some good golf on display and you managed to capture it all despite the poor lighting towards the end, well done!!
Have a great weekend!!
Hello David, it was madness out there. Too many people to keep track of. 2 of the caddies didn't have uniforms, perhaps they were new? I don't know.
Well done under trying circumstances. I would have re-booked too.
I have no idea why the golf bars were going to the cheapest courses or so late in the day. I wish I had known. Should of been in Chiang Mai. I'll drop you a line later Stuart.
Love the water and bunkers around this course. A really cool layout with an island green. Must have been a challenge to stay focused with all those people moving around and that 8 ball in front of you, jeezus. The caddie yelling fore scared the sheet out of me haha. The guy walking was a total a hole. I'm still waiting for one of us to get a hole in one on camera, so close Simon. Way to fight thru that 6 hour round.
I found it very confusing, not knowing where everybody was. The caddy drives you up the cart path to your ball and everyone is behind you playing their second. I couldn't figure out when it was safe to play.
That really looked like it had gone in the hole but it had just gone out of view. Hope you get one for the channel Mark, that would get some views.
Sounds like organized chaos@@thehairygolfer
@@ChiliDippaGolf I don't think I've been more confused in my life. Plus the waiting involved and me wanting to get on with it.
Never seen an 8ball in Thailand before ,most courses only allow 6players max . Your more patient than me Simon ,I would have not played and headed straight to the driving range and the bar ,
I had no idea until it was time to tee off. I had gone for ap utt and then got some ice and drink. I knew I was in the 3rd group off so no need to rush. Plus I had already paid. Never again Nads. I played one more cheap charlie course on the trip but the other 5 are great and apart from one very popular course it was empty millionaires golf. Cheers
I can imagine that would of been quite chaotic!! Yeah the guy not know or willing to play ready golf would of got on my nerves as well!! But I could of spoken to him in his own language!! Still decent round Simon under the circumstances!!🏌⛳😀
It was madness, I think made worse by being the longest hitter. The caddies play ready golf, get you to your ball and hit it. I'm very happy with that, I'm happy to be overtaken down the cart path. It's the way golf is out there. You play golf with your caddy and not your playing partners. I could of said something but I don't think it would of helped.
I do not know why people want to play in a 5 ball never mind a 7 ball. What enjoyment do you get out of that?
Love your content Simon, I saw this going to a rant........
Too hot for that Bob. 6 videos left and only one was on a busy course. The rest the courses were empty. Thank goodness!
It’s amazing how well you played under those conditions.
Still fighting my swing a bit. That pulled muscle gave me trouble for the rest of the trip. Not too much but I'm always afraid of injury out there.
Have they not heard of ready golf in Thailand Simon?
The caddies play ready golf. Hit your shot and they drive you to next location. Some people just don't and they don't call you through either. Very frustrating.
@@thehairygolfer I think you will find golf in Spain or Tenerife more enjoyable Simon. Probably not much cheaper but they stick to golf etiquette
@@davidwalters313 I did go with 'the lads' one time. We were supposed to have shared rooms but they went over the top. Put 6 of us into a family room. Sadly the other guys were there to drink and not play golf. It wasn't much fun.
I did enquire about going to Spain and playing some of the top courses. When I spoke to the holiday company and they asked how many people and I answered 1 they told me they couldn't do anything for me unless it was out of season. At least in Thailand I can go on my own, I don't pay a single supplement for the room and I will get on the better courses. There are difficulties being a single golfer but I can do it if I don't make compromises for someone else. Not mnay elephants in Spain either!
@@thehairygolfer my wife and I play in Tenerife during the winter. The climate is very pleasant. We often are paired up with other people- including singles. You can book directly with clubs or through a company such as Tenerife Golf. There is also plenty you can see and do. Inland it is quite a peaceful rural island. But no elephants!
Regards. David
That looked truly dreadful, and I wasnt sure whether you had a caddy or an air raid siren on the cart with you! She makes even me sound quiet!!!
Well done, despite nearly losing the will to live, you played pretty well in the circumstances! You were right mind you, you should have come off after 9 holes, as you'd have had far more fun mucking about in their practice facility for a couple of hours, rather than "that"!!!!
I'm not surprised that you cancelled the rest of your bookings and went along with Golf Asian as, as an all round experience, including your "delightful" playing partner, that looked barely 1 out of 10!!!
They do have loud voices for tiny little women. I'm surprised you didn't say anything about the 4th tee when the face appears over the top of my lens. WTF was he doing?
I would of been happy eating fried chicken wings and spring rolls with Thai fish cakes and a cold drink. Would you believe me if I said the shower was worse than the course? It was a miserable dribble.
@@thehairygolfer I hadn't noticed as, like any good caddy, I was watching where your ball went!!!! (and I thought that the WTF related to the air raid siren!)! Watching it again, I see what you mean. There are better ways to get on TV!!!! The menu sounds good, even if the shower lived down to the standard of the rest of the course. Given that, you might just have escaped food poisoning by spending that time playing golf!!!
@@nevillehubbard7347 Strange thing to do. Lean over the camera and look in the lens. After the round he went straight to the bar (maybe he knew about the showers?) and got one of those 2 pint bottles of beer. We shower and are stood round the minibus in the dark waiting for 20 mintes or so. The driver goes off and finds him and tells him we are leaving. Personally I think we should of just left. Don't like stinky blokes in the minibus who don't shower.
Damn, Thailand wasn't on the radar for golf. But premium it must then be. That was quite a round Simon. 😢
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Always go premium. You think of the travelling I did. 2 hours to the airport. 2 hours hanging around. 12 hour flight. 1 hour immigration. 2 hours to the hotel. To play that! When you go away make it special.
Haven’t they heard of “Ready Golf” over there? No wonder it took so long. Looked like hell. An 8 ball? I would have walked off. Great play under those conditions.
Well there are 2 types of people who play golf. Those who know what they are doing and know it's a sport. They there are those who treat it as a passtime or a hobby. Something to do between breakfast and beers. This is the chaos of playing with golf bars who go to cheap courses. I should of been in Chiang Mai with me in control of everything. That's life. Don't worry. The next 6 rounds are better.
I walk off too anytime, paying the green fees to have a round of golf.... Rather to have a cup of Americano at Starbucks than to golf in such a way.. No thanks
That caddy would shout ‘Fore’ at some of my putts!
You should of seen Mr Aimpoint knocking 30 footers 30 feet past. The only smile I got out of his caddy was on a down hill down grain putt and I nudged her and said watch this. Then she had to run off and mark it. Only time I saw her smile.
@@thehairygolfer 🤣
Did you tell a young Thai lady that you had trouble getting it up lol😂 that downslope problem is common among us older men☺️
After a 12 hour flight I go for a massage. It costs £9.20 including tip. Over here it's about £45 for the same. They are very good at relieving stiffness after a long flight......
A lot of the caddies are brand new this year. Age about 23 and less than 7 stone. So tiny.
Great play considering the time spent waiting around. Not sure I could of handled it. Nice little F Bomb in there too 🤣
I tried very hard not to lose my rag. You should of heard what I cut out!
What was the name of the course Simon. Really enjoying your Thailand vlpgs.
Pleasant Valley
Thanks Simon
@@simonking4870 Unpleasant Valley! Even the clubhouse was shabby and the shower I got was a dribble. Greens were so damn slow, into the grain very painful.
I played with probably the first ever society to play there when it opened - we were told it was going to be an exclusive course 3000 + baht a round. Didn't quite work out like that
@@simonking4870 I had never been before. It was in poor shape and the club house very run down. Not what you fly for 12 hours for.
Think it’s great not complaining and getting annoyed, wish i was like this. lol
I don't like confrontation but you sure aren't going to win an argument with a golf course about 7 balls. Especially not speaking the language. As to playing partners you can only vow not to play with them again. We all have guys at our own club we want to avoid. I'm sure people avoid me too! The next 6 rounds are better and apart from one round the course is empty.
That looked soul destroying. Do the starters not care about 5/7/8 ball? Or time spent on the course? Well played buddy
Expensive courses yes, cheap courses no. Got it round though in the end.
Out of interest which golf bar was it?
I went with Thaigerline this time. They usually go to the mid price courses. This time not so much.
I Must admit nothing about golf in Thailand makes me want to ever go there but that's just me i guess
There are plenty of good days. It's all about organisation and this trip was a bit of a mess. It's not just the golf for me. Big fishing, temples, buddhas, elephants and the lovely people. I love the Thai people. I get out and about and not sit in bars drinking.
We are all different. In the last 6 rounds every course is empty, not quite, one is busy but 5 are empty courses.
I don't care that much when the course is slow, I'm happy to be out sub 3 hours or 5 hours.
But anything more than a 4 ball is just going to get very frustrating.
I'm a quick player so it does bother me. I lose focus when I'm sat around doing nothing.
@thehairygolfer I try and forget about the next shot and find something to distract me. Then, when it is time focus. But I think I would struggle with 5+ players on and around the green.
@@streamleazefishhouse It's very confusing with all those people. I couldn't imagine doing that walking, at least I had something to sit on in the shade.
Horrendous.
I presume you had pre paid?
I wouldve turned up and turned straight back.
As for that screaming!
I
All paid for and the minibus had gone. The big problem was the one guy peering into the front of the camera on the 4th tee.
