If you have time, consider taking the Greenline ferry to Vung Tau, on a week day (too crowded on weekend). Get ticket beforehand at the office on D1 waterfront. Stay at a hotel in Front Beach area, Vung Tau. Lots of walking to do there, Aussie pubs, fancy cafes, beaches, ships, mountain hiking. A good place to rent a motorbike because roads empty weekdays. Everyone needs to get out of Saigon once in a while.

One of the only areas in Saigon that isn't a tourist attraction you won't see any homeless, beggers, traffic policers, street vendors, lottery sellers, and traffic, or even tourists, and of course, you don't have to worry about being new in Vietnam and not being able to cross a crazy crosswalk. Phu My Hung is way more "civilized" and foreigner friendly in that regard.
It feels like a hidden area in Saigon (although it's not hiding, but it's not widely marketed/hyped to foreigners as much). Many Western tourists tend to visit the touristy areas and I feel like they are missing out so much.
Streets in Phu My Hung are also lit throughout the night as well. It gives me the safety feeling whenever I go for a walk at night.
You never gonna go hungry when you live in this area of HCM city. Districts 1, 3, 10 are the central area of Saigon and the traffic there are much more crazier. Lifestyle is way more energetic and busy. D2 and D7 are slower, cleaner, and quieter, which I really love to live in.
Phu My Hung in my opinion is the biggest and most developed section/town of HCM city and I'm not hyping. Places like Landmark 81, Vinholmes apartments, Thao Dien, Ba Son, Diamond Island, Sala town. There are many luxurious communities like that in Saigon, but it's not as expanded like Phu My Hung, and not as orderly organized like Phu My Hung.
The Landmark 81 tower is the pride of Vietnam, but its town is just small and not very expansive like PMH. It's adjacent to Thao Dien district, only be separated by the Saigon River, where you would need to cross the famous Saigon Bridge.
Phu My Hung (part of district 7) is like its own prosperous world, completely separated from other busy districts.
The meal that costed you $35 because it's by the river. What you paid is the experience and the view, not really the true cost of the food.
If you have the same meal inland on other district in Saigon, it's way cheaper and more economical. Maybe only around $5-$7. I don't know the price now because I haven't lived in Vietnam since 2019.

I remember you were the guy who caught his testicles in your zipper and had to call a doctor to carefully separate your testicles from the teeth of the zipper.

There are a couple beggars I run into on the walkway around crescent lake. It is definitely cleaner than the majority of Saigon. You can find several places to have dinner by the lake for under 200k. I eat at Hoang Yen often. It's phenomenal. The park across the bridge is beautiful. Not big but clean and well maintained. Phu My Hung is definitely one of the more upscale regions.

Thanks for your videos. We just moved from D1 to D7 based on this vid and we're so pleased we did!
It is sooo much easier to just 'be' in D7, yet its still got lots going on. Also the bus only took half an hour for 7000 VND, so easy to get back into the chaos of D1 if that's what we fancy. Love the parks and crescent mall/lake/Bridge area. Thank you ❤

I spend a bit of time in D7 these days as the air pollution in D1 is pretty bad especially over winter. I'll be back there in a few weeks and may chech out Venus/Mars as a birthday indulgence.

That restaurant looks so cool! The boat ride there and how fancy it looks would make me so anxious feeling like I shouldn't be eating there, but the fact that there is a ball pit area for kids in the middle of the restaurant makes me feel less anxious lol.
Now the real question is, can adults use it to?

We consider places like that a special-occasion restaurant. Notice all the big family tables. District 7 is on the edge of a marshy area with islands. Glad to see that restaurant come back after covid years. Beef-on-a-hot-iron platter seems to be the Vietnamese way to serve steak. I don't think that Vietnamese beef is great, fancy restaurants serve Australian beef. If you go back to Crescent Lake, try Boomerang, it is across the bridge where you were shooting.
Pronunciation note: "ong" is pronounced "om", so the money is "dom", the Mekong river is "may-com" etc.
