It is really the 'swing' in Edwards playing that is so hard to nail and Phil X just has IT!!!!! Unreal!

It's all about the swing... that seems to be the missing god particle in tributes like this to the Master of swing and shred... But Phil killed it with style and skill... Great job man!!!

Couldn’t agree more with the comment on his swing. Being able to maintain that feel in his rhythms from such a young age is just wild. It has to be from being brought up in a household run by a big band leader. So many VH tunes are written with a swing feel. That set these guys apart and made them a party band as well as a hard rock band. And yeah, Phil smashed this.
He really channeled the weird unusual licks Eddie would come up with back when he was young, brilliant
I honestly never really have seen much more out of Phil x than good copy till this . Not sure how much preparation went into this but I bet quite a bit .

Eddie would have been 69 this past Jan 26. What a great tribute to The Master. Phil is a devoted disciple and it shows.
When guys like Phil or Dweezil play Eds stuff you can tell they are having a blast. When others do it you can tell they are struggling their asses off.

I've never seen a guitar player have more fun doing what he does, than Phil X. He is a geek to his craft and a true pleasure to watch. And, he seems like regular down to earth guy. The world needs more like him.

I've been watching Phil Play since I was literally a kid looking at Fretted Americana videos, this is the coolest fucking thing I've ever seen.
I don't think I've ever seen a cover of a VH song where I can say Ed would be impressed, until now.

Back around 1990 in Brampton Ontario, I was at a party with a basement jam of some really good working musicians. Phil, who was a friend of homeowner, walks in, straps on a guitar, steps up to the mic and blows everyone's heads off with a Stevie Wonder tune. People are looking at each other asking, "Who is this guy?" He was, and still is on another level.
Seriously…there is nothing Phil can’t play. He is absolutely freaking mind blowing. Phil is a force of nature. What a treasure. 😊

Phil is the perfect definition of a rock star, he plays guitar like a virtuoso and is one hell of a singer.He also as the looks, a cool stage presence and seems to be a down to earth kind of guy.

What's really really cool about this solo is if you listen closely it's tons of Ed's licks all thrown in a blender. At first you might say well he's improvising over Ed's stuff but it's really tons of Ed's stuff brilliantly put together.

Besides the obvious fact this guys a fkn beast on guitar you can tell he’s taken away, IMO the most important and often overlooked part of Eddies playing. It’s the swing, the groove, the pushing/ pulling of the rhythm. Eddie was a master and Phil definitely has it in spades

Hes a beast of a guitar player and very fun to watch he can play so much stuff to me as guitar player hes one off the best as song writing i tot respect his thing but is just not for me but he still one off my favourite guitar players to watch and Phil X is the reason i only play stand up and to put much less gain so i can hear my dinamics on my playing.

I listened to this before even listening to the song by van halen and was like wow are those the riffs VH plays...come to find out they are not and that this is your version...unbelievable, bravo
I started playing in 85. I was 15. I was totally self taught. Never tried to play his stuff. Was too far out. After many years, I still loved VH songs, I just couldn't get into all the squeals and tapping. Hot For Teacher came out, and it 99% trick free. Just straight up gettin' it. That became the piece I learned. Was just so melodic to the song. Was almost comparable to a Neal Schon solo. His solos are songs within the song. VERY few guys can do that. This here is just like HFT, but so much more acrobatic. This is the one you'd break out if you were cutting heads with a guy and he was puttin' it to ya. Not many players could respond to that.

Wow, I mean... I thought I heard Eddie playing in parts, maybe all throughout, but some parts sounded exactly like Ed, and how fkn rare is that to hear from another guitar player?!? I wish the video played this solo twice. The first time just a blacked out screen, the 2nd showing Phil play it like he shows here. I closed my eyes and listened and it was freaky.
