Hey guys! If you want to see the Helix with the SD Powerstage competing with other amps, you can see it here!

Cheers!🤘😊
Thank you so much for this video dude! So glad i stumbled upon it, I have a PRS MT15 and I am planning on buying a Helix and running it through the FX Return on the PRS then into a Marshall cab (the same way you did here), before I saw this video I had no idea how it was going to sound but now I know it's gonna sound great!
Great video! Definitely shows how much more transparent the PS170 is. One of the main developers involved with designing the PS170 was also involved with creating the Helix actually, so it's no surprise they match up well with one another. And the portability factor also makes it a winner for me. But the Helix sounded great through all the amps, especially that Plexi!
I did not know that! Makes perfect sense. PS crushed the other amps
Thank you for this fantastic video.
I now am able to experiment on the fly and have achieved great results from the Pre-Amp to the Amps depending on any compression and eq I choose to add too.
Thank you for taking the time and effort because I am loving the combinations in my Helix and this video is the reason.
Hi HK! There’s a lot to experiment with models that’s for sure!😁
Thanks for watching!
Cheers 🍻
I run my Helix LT through several different tube amps (loop Return or 4CM) into a 2x12 cabinet. I stared out using PREAMP but always needed to add an EQ for more tone shaping...more work. One day I decided to try AMP (no cab) instead. I have now changed all my presets to AMP because I truly think they sound much better and there is no need to add an EQ.
Interesting yo hear that. And running a digital power amp and real power amp doesn't hace consecuences?
@@alga1309 Nope...not to me
I also used to prefer de amp instead of preamp, however I found out some important thing missing, in the global settings you need to change the output of line 6 from instrument level to line level before sending it to the return of the amp, that changes dramatically the preamp sound. Most of the amps expects line level signal in the return. Try it!
How does the amp in the room and warmth sound between , the powerstage and using the other amps as power amps. And using the helix and powerstage vs just directly using the valve amp?
I have connected my POD 2.0 rack into the return of my Friedman Dirty Shirley and it sounds awesome indeed. Has anyone had any experience using the Electro Harmonix 44 Calibur for their Helix? Im quite interested in using it for my Friedman Cab.
I tried to 4 cable method with PRS , do u think it change sound when passing trough the LIne 6 ?

Your videos are very informative! Thank you! After seen countless comparison videos on YT, the big picture is that all the hard rock industry is based around Marshall sound, and for pedals everything is around and 808 or TS9 tube screamer. And because we are addicts on guitar sounds is like drugs. We spent less time on creation and more consuming useless stuff.
That is very true Costis!👏
@@andrerodriguesguitars Andre, I have downloaded in the past patches and IR's from Sigma and Celestion. Which are ok! Your JCM800 IR is fucking amazing and needs no tweaking after recording! Is so good! Thank you for your serious work!
Marshall or Mesa and Fender for clean.
Superbe. You used speaker monitoring for helix ?
Sorry friend, I don't speak English. Did you connect an amplifier modeling to the tube amp input? Wouldn't the ideal be to use no return?
Friend, with the power amp does the sound remind you a little of a tube amp or is it very distant? Does it sound better than using irs in frfr cases?
These tones are fabulous! I was gonna run a Helix thru my Mt15 but that sounds thin on this vid. The Seymour just moves this Helix🤟🏻💯
Hey Jay! I still have it and still play through it! There’s the Seymour Duncan PS 200 now that has a Presence knob too, that’s the one I would have bought if it was available at the time. Still, the 170 is great 👍
Ver good video, just a question, do you considered the seymour duncan amp a good choose for an alive show? It have the enough power? Cheers.
Hey El Chino! It’s crazy loud.. trust me…in a rehearsal with 5 super loud guys never passed 9 o’clock… plugged at 16ohms.. this thing can blow a 4x12”..
Thanks Andre.
Victor Loher Thank You Victor! Already preparing the next one! Not so technical, lots of rock!🤘😁 Cheers
Thanks! Great Stuff
Nikolay Stroganov Thank You Nikolay!! Welcome to the channel! Already working on the next!!😁💪 Hope to see your feedback on my videos to help me grow and learn more and more!! Cheers
I think the power stage sounded amazing if not the best. Lol crazy
Nice one! Btw, once got the same guitar poster from my brother many years ago and I still have it. :)
Hey Tobias! That poster is a classic!😁 Thanks for watching!
Cheers 🍻
Personally, I would always choose the tube if I could. However as a gigging musician I use amp in a box type of pedals more than anything else run through a PA. So Helix get's a vote. If I wasn't stressed about the gig or I was recording I would consider digital.
Richard Durazo Hey Richard! Actually, since I bought the Friedman DS pedal that I’m huge fan of amp in a box! The good ones are just killer!! Which are you using?
@@andrerodriguesguitars I combination of soul food OD, with a cheap reverb, a delay, and a custom built distortion really on my board does most of the shaping I need, then I go DI to board, but I want to invest into something more AIAB.
Sorry, I did not get to understand your test. What was the cab? Was the goal to use the Helix as preamp for a real "amp in the room" ?
testing poweramps
TOTAL noob here. If I got this right, you are connecting Helix directly to some mic'd cabinet and you are comparing sounds with other amplifiers? Or are you connecting Helix to the FRFR speaker?
Borna Jelic Hi! All the sounds are from the Helix through a real cab, the only thing that changes it’s the power amp. When you see me playing through the amps I’m just using their poweramp section😊
@@andrerodriguesguitars so you keep that iR and play it through a real cab ?
@@hichembell9972 Hey! No, when it’s playing through the Seymour Duncan Powerstage and real cab the IR it’s bypassed.😊
Nice to see the Revstar
Guitar Man my number 1 guitar!😁🤘
Yamaha Baritones are the greatest
Is this patch downloadable? Where can we get it?
Hey! Check my website, maybe you find something that you like. That one it’s Placater Rock. www.andrerodriguesdigital.com
This is the best poweramp or I can need other pedal?
I heard good things about the Orange pedalbaby but I never tried. Either way, you only need one power to make your modeler play through a guitar cabinet😊
Of course the sound of any digital emulator amplified through a good tube power amp wins a lot! in warm, musical, natural and organic sound, in live concerts it is essential. In studio or home recordings, the difference is somewhat less, but on stage, the tubes are the queens!
Try Orange Pedal BABY 100 ... much better than power stage
STUDIOS DEL CONTE MIX & MASTERING AUDIO have to get my hands on one! Is it more transparent than the powerstage?
@@andrerodriguesguitars Sure Pedal baby are much better !!!

@@studiosdelcontemixmasterin4443 You are totaly wrong. First ps170 d class amp, orange baby a/b class. then that video he didn t try with modellers. he try with some preamp pedals. and also that video like pedal baby's commercial. i tryed two amp too and with my ax8 my prefer ps170.
It appears that you are preamping your guitar twice if you are plugging into the front of your amp. Try disabling your cab/ir block, and then plugging the helix output into the back of your amp (effects return/power amp in). That way, you are completely bypassing your amp's preamp and using only the amp's power amp. Since you have an amp block on the helix, you don't need to run it through your real amp's preamp. Just try it out and see if you like it.
Mike Morine oh, sorry.. I should’ve mention, all the amps are running through 4CM with no cab block😊 So the Helix it’s not going through the preamp of the amps. Thanks for pointing out!😊🙏
@@andrerodriguesguitars Ahh! Ok that makes much more sense. Thanks! Sounds good!
Tube amps had some nice compression
Is this right into front of amp ? No 4 cm
MarshTube82 4 CM. In font only with the Powerstage
André Rodrigues so you can go right in front of amp ? No 4cm ? I have a 1970 fender super reverb and has no fx loop but I hear people say it sound like crap going through front input
MarshTube82 you can, but the signal will go through the pre amp stage of the amp witch will dramatically change the sound of the amp block of the Helix. But you can go straight to the amp and use OD pedals p.e.
André Rodrigues your perspective, should I even bother getting one lol, 2500 is a lot of money 💰
MarshTube82 well, I can tell you my experience. I have the Helix LT witch is far less expensive and has the same processor, same amps, same everything. Since I have my Helix I barely use my amps.. I use it through speakers or through my guitar cab with the Seymour Duncan Powerstage.. you can also use it with an FRFR.. it’s just more convenient, sounds great at any volume and it does pretty much everything. Either way, you will need to buy a power amp or an FRFr too.
Not very accurate representation running the HX into the front of an amp (preamp)... so we are not only listening to the tube/power amp type here we are also hearing the amp controls/EQ affected as well... IMO best to run it into the FX loop or power amp "in". and remember to turn of speaker cabinet simulators!
Hi there! The Helix is running exactly as you’re suggesting. Cheers 🍻
@@andrerodriguesguitars Might want to mention that in the beginning cause every shot of the amps while you're playing there is a cable plugged into the front of the amp. Thanks!
Yeah, it was one of my first videos, I’m not sure if I mention something during the video but it’s running via 4 method cable.
Thanks for pointing that out.;)
Cheers 🍻
@@andrerodriguesguitars OK so yeah... 4CM is involving the front end of those amps and coloring the tone. Would be interesting to hear the HX straight into the power section only of these amps... that would be a true comparison.
Using the Helix into the front end of a traditional amp seems to make no sense and defeat the purpose of the Helix entirely. I would've thought that you might run the Helix into the effects return to bypass the amp's preamp section entirely. You would also have to turn off the Helix's mic & cab modeling as well.
Hey! Im not sure if I’m understanding. The Helix his running through the return of the amps without any cab/IR
If you have a tube amp and proper cab, using the helix effects, into a helix preamp model, and then into the return of the effects loop you get the full amp in a room experience, rather than the modelled amp and IR sound (and you also gain significant processing overhead compared to a full amp/cab model). It's just 'another thing' you can do if you want.
As you say though, sending a modelled amp and cab into the front of an amp doesn't make sense though.
plexi power amp is more transparent and juicy!
Marshall wins
Why do you RUclips guys always play the same tired old riffs that sound like they came from 1978?
Class D is not a digital thing. It's just another class like A or A B
