When he says, "I lost my mind today" it stops me in my tracks every time...like I'm hearing it for the first time, every time. Seeing them October 4th in Orlando...October 5th in St. Pete. CAN NOT WAIT!
In all the comments on these videos of The War on Drugs you can see how this music affects people. Moments in time. Sad, happy, or other. Shows the true ability of this band to move people. Very awesome.
One year ago today, my dad passed away peacefully with family by his side. I played this song 3 years ago and loved it ever since and still play it repeatedly. 3 years ago, it reminded me of my grandparents; 1 year ago I played it for my "Daddy-O". Every phrasing of these lyrics is so heartfelt, has so much meaning. So beautiful - "you can be free..., No, you don't have to go, I wanna make you stay, goodbye anyway... winds of change..blowing right through me, then blow back to you, pull you into the light ..move through me, then move through you, then took you into the night.." helps me with the grief and loss of my dad, and acceptance of his passing over to the other side. May he rest in peace. And I can't wait to see you guys again soon! I love you guys, and have been to a few of your concerts in NYC. You guys are beautiful!
The best Song, and the best closing ever, for their best album (and i just love everything they've done). This is just another level of musicianship, of emotions, thank you TWOD 🥹
Adam you are a beautiful person, beautiful soul, so sensitive. Music and lyrics with layers of emotion, honesty, so heartfelt I cry. Are they happy tears? Sad tears? I don't know, just life's tears that flow from real life experiences of love, family, friends, pleasure, pain and loss, life and death, the circle of life and eternity. I love your expressiveness, your guitar-playing, your writing, your music; I love all your musicians; they are the best! As are you! Thanks for such a beautiful contribution to music to the world and to my life as well. Thanks guys!
Well, Ma'am, your nephew is my favorite artist. I suffer from depression for a long time and in his songs I find comfort and hope. I really hope he is aware of how important his music is for some people our there! Greetings from Brazil! Be safe!
It’s great to hear music that’s not afraid to be reverent to past styles and make some excellent original songs without cheesy gimmicks. ‘Strangest Thing’ is real good, too.
Gosh, I'm listening music all day long & I haven't heard this one before, damn life's too short to hear everything ... Love's a bird, I left mine out of the cage years ago & it hadn't come back since, but hey, it just landed back in & it's on repeat shuffle. This is so limitlessly hauntingly beautiful !
KEXP was my first exposure to the War on Drugs and I'm so grateful for it. One of the best bands in the world at this moment in time. Top of their game!
"You Don't Have To Go" Love is a bird I can't even see Even in the darkness right in front of me And you were shining bright through the window in the morn There's a torrent that rises gently There's a wind You can be free, sometimes brave Sometimes all you want to do is run away I don't need a curse, the hurt is much too real But even worse, I'm silently waiting For her, the room will be painted Yeah, I know, it's hard, this time Yeah, I know, you know, this time... How could I wait until you recognized me? When you were there inside my dreams No, you don't have to go, I want to make you stay Goodbye, anyway I heard the news today I've been up since the break of dawn I lost my mind today I'm at the sea, and I can hear the trains Winds of change, so new Blow right through me and blow back through you And pull you into the light, yeah Now I'm home, and it's clear you're gone Lost my edge today, singing all my songs in the pouring rain Pushed and pulled apart by the scenes I can feel the change Winds of love blow few, and they move through me, and they blow through you And take you into the night, yeah
The quality of our dreams are both a reflection of our thoughts and actions as well as a foreshadowing of the fate of our souls in the next life...A nightly, temporary karma that beckons us to change - for the good - so as to avoid a more permanent karma. Complexity(🌎)+Beauty(🌷) =Intent(❤️) The Figure 8 Analogy: An analogy on life, death, the dreamstate and the symbolism intertwined within the human experience. We human beings are not moving in the - abstract - motion of a straight line towards death (for instance, the numerical straight line of say 1-89), rather we are moving in the motion of a figure 8. The Figure 8 is a natural repeating pattern that is divided into two halves and is thus the perfect symbol to represent the human life cycle and our two primary states of existence that we are continuously moving in and out of - the awake state and the dream state. When we awake from sleep, we come full circle to when we fall back asleep (represented by the bottom half of the figure 8), and when we go into the dream state, we come full circle to when we awake from the dream state (represented by the top half of the figure 8). Upon death, the figure 8 of life untwines, but it is not the body untwining from the mind that this analogy represents; It's two states of mind untwining to form a larger state of mind...(8->0)...Because the awake state is really a state -of mind, with our body's physical reality "consciously" intertwined, and the dream state is also a state -of mind, with our body's physical reality "subconsciously" intertwined. Therefore; upon death, these two states "of mind" untwine to form a larger state of mind...A state that has all the potentialities of the dream world (flying, telepathy, psychokinesis, etc) combined with all the actualities of the awake world(nature, form, bonds, etc). This I refer to as the "transitional analogy." While conceiving this analogy I realized life and death must be perceived - from one point of view - as seperate entities(the transitional analogy), but must also be perceived - from another point of view - as inseperable entities(the symbolic analogy) -both of which are ultimately linked by the dream state. The symbolic analogy consists of the untwined figure 8 of life/the 'circle of death' abstractly overlapping the 'circle of life'/the earth -with the overlappment representing the dream state (like the common area in a venn diagram), which implies that the dream state is just as much a part of life as is of death (by which semi-explains precognitive dreams, prodromal dreams, "visitations" by deceased relatives, etc; for the dream state has a foothold in the afterlife) and is based on the premise that "while our body sleeps, our dream state symbolically represents the state that awaits upon our body's ultimate rest. In other words, while we are lying down and -sleeping/dreaming, this natural process symbolizes where we go when we're ultimately lying down/dead -to a place "like" our dream state...A state "of mind", with our body's physical bonds eternally engrained and intertwined. 👁~8~👁
I kind of wish from the four-minute mark went on forever....gorgeous stuff.
This one grows on you until you can't live without it. He's a quiet genius. That is all.
After listening to it over 100times I'm still to concentrate on lyrics lol, I'm not done with the tune yet 🤣🤣
Well said bro

Completely agree. This is one of the greatest songs ever made.
"How could I wait til you recognized me? When you were there inside my dreams" ...somehow this song both breaks my heart and heals it.
This tune lifts to another level at 4:13 when the saxophone comes in. Superb.

Everybody can play that drum pattern. Nobody can play it like that
It’s great to hear music that’s not afraid to be reverent to past styles and make some excellent original songs without cheesy gimmicks. ‘Strangest Thing’ is real good, too.

"You Don't Have To Go"
Love is a bird I can't even see
Even in the darkness right in front of me
And you were shining bright through the window in the morn
There's a torrent that rises gently
There's a wind
You can be free, sometimes brave
Sometimes all you want to do is run away
I don't need a curse, the hurt is much too real
But even worse, I'm silently waiting
For her, the room will be painted
Yeah, I know, it's hard, this time
Yeah, I know, you know, this time...
How could I wait until you recognized me?
When you were there inside my dreams
No, you don't have to go, I want to make you stay
Goodbye, anyway
I heard the news today
I've been up since the break of dawn
I lost my mind today
I'm at the sea, and I can hear the trains
Winds of change, so new
Blow right through me and blow back through you
And pull you into the light, yeah
Now I'm home, and it's clear you're gone
Lost my edge today, singing all my songs in the pouring rain
Pushed and pulled apart by the scenes
I can feel the change
Winds of love blow few, and they move through me, and they blow through you
And take you into the night, yeah
Pushed and pulled at the seams* ;-)
No words. the comments below say it all. emotional!
Spectacular ~
Purchased every album.
Hopefully, another coming soon..
Best version I know, of their best song I know.
I'm new to WOD. I'm liking it. A bit of Dylanesque vocals, grunge guitar and mood. Just bought A Deeper Understanding to get in deeper.
A masterpiece Adam. Greetings from Perú.
Every time this video plays I think that it is the album version. It is composed and mixed so well.
Heavy performance from this great band.
