Thank you all for sharing. As a Catholic adolescent, most are surprised that my schooling is/was consistent with the notions discussed. However, what I am currently being taught is that, at least, Catholicism, specifically focus' on the norms. That it remains consistent with what is believed to be traditional norms. All other Christian religions "deviate" from that norm. I wonder if what you are currently discussing seems consistent. As one would imagine, the "Reformation Project," is certainly of interest.

There is nothing wrong with religious liberty, the problem is "religious entitlement" thinking that anyone's faith or beliefs allows them to dictate public policy & decide who is worthy of the same rights they take for granted. There is no divine right to discriminate against any law abiding citizen in a secular democracy.

@@probeanalysis5740 There is a completely clear line between "right" and "entitlement" here. A right gives allowance for a religious institution to provide something to the public. An entitlement is that which the individual religious institution wants for its own sake. The SCOTUS decision on same sex marriages did not bring a legal requirement for all churches to begin officiating same sex marriages. It only provided the right for same sex couples to pursue a civil marriage license. *YOU* still don't have to officiate these marriages. *YOU* aren't affected by this liberty.

Look the attorney who represented George W Bush in Bush vs Gore argued the case for marriage equality. Why? Because marriage promotes stable relationships. Isn't it good for society if gay men and lesbians form stable long-term relationships? How does my marriage to another man affect any straight person's right to be married to an opposite-gender partner? 🌈

Concerning the comment, about the country, where the church and state are theoretically at least one, I heard a great disposition by someone else that indicated that the church has done great good and great harm over the centuries and often the periods when the church has done great harm is when it most closely associates itself with the state. So the teaching loses its saltiness so to speak
