I lost 7lbs the first week on Keto and it's been stuck there for a month. I didn't let the scale readings discourage me because other health factors were more important. Even though the scales didn't move, I lost 5" of belly fat (Woohoo!!!Goodbye, Muffin Top!). Better yet, 12+ years of Fibromyalgia completely disappeared. My headaches/migraines have improved both in frequency and intensity. The burning, tingling sensation in my feet is gone! Other symptoms like armpit odor and itchy, runny earwax have stopped. Facial puffiness and finger swelling are gone. For the record, I started Keto just to lose a few stubborn pounds. I never dreamed I could be unshackled from constant pain (that I learned to accept and adjusted my life accordingly). My energy levels are incredible! I now walk 3mi/day, rain or shine, and play hard tennis 3-4 times/week, weather permitting. I'm 60yo but I feel decades younger. I don't give a sh*t what the scales say. I care about the quality of life I'm able to live under Keto. I don't care if I don't lose another ounce as long as I can live pain-free and have the mental and physical energy to enjoy it. I started Keto to lose a few pounds, but I ended up getting my life back!

I've run two Half Marathons (and I'm not a runner) and completed a 23-mile bike trip myself (no E-bike, just an old '90s Trek bike). My body has healed so much and my family can't keep up with me. 😆 I got my life back and I'll never return to the SAD diet!

Remember that 1) sometimes we reach a plateau for a little bit while our metabolism adjusts then we get the next level of weight loss, and so on.
      2) muscle weighs more than fat, so this also has an impact on the scales.
When we are more focused on how we feel physically, how our clothes are fitting, and our strength than on the scales alone, we can be encouraged that we are doing well. ❤

Ketovore here! Keeping it simple is the best way! My food list: any meat, any fish, eggs, butter, little dairy, avocado, salt. On special occasions(about 4/5 times a year) if I feel like dessert I choose strawberrys with heavy cream and a little melted 80% dark chocolate. That's it, I know if I start eating other stuff, the cravings and addiction will come back and I definitely don't want that! I'm happy and my food is delicious!

Been keto since August of 2019- with pretty good success...what I found, in the beginning, was that too much information made it harder..too many recipes trying to “keto” non keto foods..I started down that path, and found that making KETO Mac and cheese, and other elaborate recipes was a ridiculous amount of work, with very little reward..I keep it simple - meat, fat and a low carb vegetable...I used a lot of cabbage in the beginning to make up “bulk” while I adjusted to eating Keto..Also, leaning into fresh herbs and using a heavy hand with seasoning keep my meals delicious and satisfying.. I will make the occasional treat- but stick to simple foods most of the time .

I went on a very limited Keto lifestyle mid-February 2022 at age 56 to get my health back. I reversed my T2Diabetes in 6 weeks! I ate only real food, prioritized protein and healthy fats and very low carb. Since then I'm down 25 lbs and feel better than I have in decades. I'm mostly carnivore at this point and just focused on getting healthier and am starting weight training. Because I kept it simple and didn't eat any 'keto' snacks or 'keto' substitute recipes (skip the comfort food replacements and enjoy a big ribeye, seriously), I also ditched the processed foods and added in Intermittent Fasting I didn't have hunger cravings. Before I ate small meals and snacks ALL day and was hungry constantly. On keto done right I was never hungry. It was unbelievable! Last year I was on 5 meds and right now I'm on 1 and believe as I get metabolically healthy I will come off that one too. People I don't even know at the warehouse I work in have been stopping me and asking me what I'm doing and I am telling them! Do the mental work and then the physical work to change will come easier. I did this to save my own life (lost both parents and most recently a brother, two of them to complications of diabetes and the other to cancer). I also wanted the years ahead to be a better quality. You can do this just make the decision, and take action. I tell everyone now that 'Type 2 Diabetes isn't in your genes, it's in your pantry!"

I did low carb over a decade ago and began at 273lbs with a goal weight of 150-160lbs. So wanted to lose at least 113lbs!
I should add that I was 48 years old and wanted to get to goal by the time I was 50. Well, the weight came off pretty steady until I lost about 50lbs, then things slowed WAY down. But I was confident in low carb and felt I was doing everything correct; I even kept close track and made sure I wasn't getting "carb creep". Really loved never feeling hungry and found I would miss a meal without knowing it until later. After about a year of low carb I finally broke 200lbs and hit 199lbs! I was thrilled. I had lost 73lbs and felt I could do this thing that looked impossible when I began. I mean, I needed to lose almost a whole person to get to my goal weight.
Well, I slowly gained back 10lbs, then 20lbs, then 30lbs before it stopped. I never stopped doing low carb and was double and triple checking every molecule that passed my lips. I kept doing low carb, but was now stalled at 230lbs. Things stayed that way for well over a year and I slowly started slipping, doing the easy thing and eating more and more carbs. I was now 50 and was at least 60lbs from my goal weight and so just gave up.
I'm now 60 and have gained back everything I lost before and another 10lbs, so tipping the scale at 280lbs. Here we go again. This time, I'm doing more keto, with mostly eggs, meat, butter and not worrying about getting a salad every day like before. I'm also doing intermittent fasting, something I didn't do the last time. I now only eat one or two meals a day and I manage to get at least 16 hours between my last meal of the day and my cup of coffee with hwc in the morning.
I've lost almost 30lbs so far, but still have a very long way to go and KNOW I will probably stall again when I get close to or hit 200lbs. I'm also working with my doctor, who has checked all my hormone levels, just waiting for the results of those tests and then will see what we do with that moving forward.
In the meantime, I've only ever been on high blood pressure meds and hope to get off that as my weight goes down and my activity level goes up. Thankful I never had diabetes or even come close to that and my triglycerides are good, but now on low carb/keto, they get even better. My doctor is supportive, so will stick with it this time no matter what happens.
    Wish me luck!

Keto + intermittent fasting (18-6) worked for me. Over a year, I've lost 82lbs. Off my BP meds, my cholesterol went from high to low-end, A1C went from 8.4 to 5.5 WITHOUT meds....all in 12 months! I feel awesome. I generally keep my carbs to 50g - ish per day. I'm not a nazi about it. I even drink 1 Michelob Ultra or Sleeman Clear per day at dinner. Worked like a charm for me. Exercise 30 minutes 3-5 times per week also. This is my "new normal".

I did Keto for about 2 years and it was great, or a great start I should say. I have made the move to full Carnivore now and that really is the proper human diet. Keto helped me lose probably 70 pounds or so, but Carnivore helps will so much more than weight. Plants are so full of toxins and I was still eating a ton of that crap on keto. Since going Carnivore I have gotten rid of the inflammation that the vegetables bring with them. I used to get near crippling arthritis in my knees and elbows. That actually got worse on keto as I was eating a ton of leafy greens which are loaded with Oxalates. Since going Carnivore right before Thanksgiving last year, I have now got rid of the arthritis completely. I expect I will be a Carnivore for life.

That sounds simple and obvious, but it’s very hard to do. Took me about 3 years of almost constant inner work to accept my emotions and deal with them in a healthy way that no longer involves carbs. Another roadblock for me was my motivation for doing keto. Weight loss has only been a temporary motivator for me, but my health improvements from being on keto are far more long term motivators.

Dr. Berry is excellent in telling "some" people what they need to know, even if they don't want to hear it. That's not just a doctor, that is a friend. I ate strict carnivore less than 5 carbs a day for almost 2 yrs and couldn't lose weight, but worse was I felt like I was getting more sick and not healing. I got frustrated. This September I was diagnosed with hashimoto's hypothyroidism. My numbers were way off. My numbers are still going the wrong direction but my new endocrinologist that i saw yesterday took more blood and told me before results she is positive I'm not on enough NP Thyroid. She was thrilled when I told her I had cut way back on my carbs because my a1c was at 5.6 and although that is normal it is the top of normal and I didn't want to go any higher into diabetes. (I had quit eating carnivore and keto when nothing was working. ) I'm now getting back on it again. I do great most of the time but sometimes when I feel really horrible from the hashimoto's I make decisions that I pay for later. I get right back on track though the next day. I'm down about 13 lbs in 2 weeks with numbers going the wrong way and a couple of choices that weren't as great as they could have been. 90% getting it right and the other times are just not judged as good or bad just so. The better I feel the easier it is for me to stay on track. The hashimoto's got so bad I have been out on disability for 6 months. My daughter now wants to be 3 way'd into my doctor appointments because I struggle to complete thoughts and sentences let alone get anything done... this has been going on for 30-40 years but no one would listen to me. Yet my ex had just a couple of my symptoms and he was diagnosed and treated years ago and immediately. There is a discrimination going on against females by doctors who just write us off as stupid. Me: my hair >is falling out in handfuls! Dr: everyone loses 100 pieces of hair a day a shrugs me off. Me: yeah but a healthy someone grows a new 100 hairs back in, doesnt have every other symptom of hashimoto's with the hair loss. When I went in and got diagnosed my throat was as big as my face. The discrimination needs to stop!

I did carnivore for 2 weeks and felt horrible so switched to keto. Today is day 40. I’ve been counting my carbs on the carb manager app and adding in salt/electrolytes and I’m still absolutely exhausted. Some days I wake up with a fatigue “hangover”. I think it’s multifactorial as I am still healing from CIRS but I’m not sure how long I should stick with this until I adjust. I’m currently doing 20 grams of carbs a day. I don’t know if I’m eating too much dairy? My breakfast is typically 5% greek yogurt and a handful of blackberries. That’s the only time I allow fruit. I’ve struggled with depression for many years and really want to see the mental health benefits of this diet. I’m willing to stick it out to 90 days but if I’m still exhausted by then I’ll have to dig deeper. Maybe my body really does need more carbs? I felt better as soon as I introduced a little fruit in my transition from carnivore to keto. Also I’ve been checking my blood Ketone levels and um after 40 days they have not gone past 0.5 so I’m not sure why I’m not in a deeper state of ketosis yet. I just added in IF 16:8 today and woke up feeling much better despite not sleeping well so I’m going to see how this pans out.

I've been trying to get below 203 for about six years. I was at a high of 228 and after a visit to the cardiologist I got down to around 203, but no matter how hard I tried, I never could get down below that. I exercised, cut out all sweets, but still couldn't do anything. Of course I now know the problem was I was starting the day with a bagel and snacking on a family sized bag of Snyder sourdough Pretzels every three days, eating rice with every meal and lots of Avacado toast. After I spoke to my doctor in September, he reminded me that all those carbs are turning into sugar. And after watching the movie "Fat Fiction" I started doing intermittent fasting (8/16) and cutting my carbs back. I got an app (which really changed things for me), called Keto Diet App, and I set my macros to 30 carbs per day. I realize that this is a bit higher than recommended, but it's been working. I started getting serious on October 7th at 203 and I'm currently down to 191. The app and a kitchen scale have been life savers. I usually go over the fast. I don't eat after 8pm or before 12 pm, but I often don't eat until 2pm. I'm just not hungry.
My biggest problems have been hitting the calorie macros. I've found that the closer I get to the macro limits, the more likely I'll weigh in less the next day.
My big motivation was losing health insurance during this pandemic. I want to thank you. I'm not learning new things, but you are reinforcing all the things I'm doing. I have an appointment with my cardiologist in Feb, and I'm sure he'll finally be happy with my progress.

I started Keto on 1st January 2022. It has been a slow transition. I started at 12st 11. I have high visceral fat when I started it was 11.0 but has dropped down to 10.5 which seems to be going in the right direction. I have also lost centimeters but only 2LB In weight, currently at 12 St 9. The reason I started was to lose weight as my mother is type 1 diabetic and has recently within the last 2 years had 5 Cerebellar stroke which has had a huge impact on her life. This truly frighten me as I realised I was getting to a dangerous stage with high visceral fat of becoming a type 2 diabetic. It is slow for me for a few reasons, one my high visceral fat, two an under active thyroid and also my age as I will be 50 this year. I know a few people doing this diet who have some of the same health issue as myself but I have told them they just need to keep going and not give up. It's a case of understanding your body and being patient. I am determined to lose the weight but it isn't a quick fix. I only eat once a day and it seems to work for me me, I hardly ever feel hungry. Don't give up push through and eventually albeit sometimes slow at the start it will work if you keep going. Doctor Berry's videos are extremely helpful which his other video's on Keto as I have learnt quite a bit from him.

I’ve had many arguments on FB groups here in the UK with people who insist net carbs is the way to go because “you deduct polyols” whatever they are!

Yes, you can eat a very large amount of carbs and still fall within 20g net carbs a day,
As a T2 diabetic, I can say that fiber does absolutely affect my blood glucose levels. It might affect it a bit differently than say that from table sugar, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have an affect. I suspect its one of the more common issues.
Its not a sprint, its a marathon.

Dr. Berry. I had gastric sleeve surgery 3 years. Thank God my stomach did not stretch and i still eat very little amount of food. I am in the Keto diet but my problem is that i can't limit the number of meals because i don't eat enough each meal. I appreciate your advise on what to change in order to do keto properly. Thanks. By the way, you have become my doctor with out coming to your office and see you in person. I love every video and you indeed changed my life. Thanks again.

This is Spot ON! I've been 20 carbs a day for over 6 years. I do not waste my time trying to figure "net carbs." Having said that, if I eat too much protein, I will also gain weight. Eating 1/2 a cow at 1 meat or a full day of meals will not make one lose weight. My macro for protein is just under 15oz. a day (spread out between meals, not all at once), and less if I want to lose more weight.

I’ve been OMAD and Carnivore for a few months at age 75 and losing slowly. I recently added 3+ cups of green salad with my one meal and have gained 4 pounds in four days! I’m resuming Carnivore today. That was very discouraging but this wonderful video popped up just in time to save my mind and body so I can continue healing! Thank you, Dr Berry!

Yep! That’s me. Hypothyroid, low progesterone and the list goes on. I tried telling my dr years ago my thyroid was out but she always claimed it was within range up until recently it blew up out of range... she said she’s never seen anything like it! Yeah all at the expense of my health 😠

Bella I had the same thing happen to me. For 15 years I was saying to the different doctors I saw, " How can you say my thyroid is normal when I have an adenoma (benign tumor), a cyst, and multinodlular goiter". My hair was receding and thinning a great deal,(especially not good when you are female). I was tired all the time and the outer part of my eyebrows were gone my voice is hoarse to the point I get called sir over the phone!!. Finally halfway through 2020 my doctor said I have hypothyroidism. No duh! I started using a hemp CBD oil for my arthritis and inflamation and my hair and eyebrows grew back. Googled CBD oil and thyroid and found a bunch of research that CBD oil works for all thyroid issues. It worked for me!

Im glad you mentioned about the CBD oil. I did get some but haven’t been consistent in taking it. I am also boiling 2 tablespoons of coriander seed in 1 cup of water into a pot boiling it for 15-20 mins a day. Sift the seeds and pour the liquid it into a cup. My thyroid went from 12 to 4.7. I am really thrilled to hear cbd oil is working for you. Many blessings are coming your way 🙌🏼

It’s about commitment. Once you are committed to doing it, you really want to see it work, then it is easy. Once you start doing well, you do NOT want to stop. Everyone is asking you what you are doing, telling you how good you look! Once you start thinking you can go back to eating junk food, it’s easy to revert as well. It is your progress to look for, be that weight loss in the beginning, or weight management once you achieve your weight loss goal. Anyone who wants to do it can do it. Their progress, looks, feeling lighter, ease of movement, just feeling great, is their reward.
