I've got 5 miners online and a 6th coming up this weekend (all bobcats). Living in a more rural area I'm dealing with lots of trees and hills and my miners are only seeing one another sometimes. I'm working to get outdoor antennas for them all now, but even with the limited earnings I'm looking at an ROI right now of about 200 days. Once I get the antennas and have them routinely seeing one another it'll pay itself off in a few months. Such an exciting feeling.
What does "seeing each other" mean?
@@SolutionsWithin I mean beacons and witnesses. Each unit sends out a beacon every so often via their antenna. If another unit witnesses this both get rewarded with HNT. In general, the more hotspots your miner can witness/be witnessed by the more you will make.

Clearly you addressed how horrible the other manufacturers have been. I ordered the Bobcat in July and and Nebra in April. The Bobcat miner will get to me sooner than the Nebra. Ordered the RAK in March and by a fluke accident I will actually get it this month. Was not expecting it until October, 7 months after ordering the RAK miner.

I wish I knew you could sync a miner without selecting the final location. I bought a few that sat there while I coordinated where to deploy them and then it took forever for them to sync once I place them in their final destination. Also careful with putting the miner in your attic in hot weather. I heard you mention you location for mining is NoVA. I'm in SW VA (Roanoke) and there are very few miners nearby. Would this be a good venture for mining with little to no miners nearby?
Upon his advice, I bought 2 Bobcat miners. Worst mistake I ever made! I am earning about 31 cents a day, even though I set them up correctly and made sure they were in separate hexes. Unless you live in a city or a suburbs. like Leesburg, it will take you years or decades to recoup your money. Voskcoin needs to tell everyone not living amongst at least 10 or 20 other Bobcats to not buy these. Or buy huge antennas, drill holes in your roof and hope you make a little helium.

Yes. The IP address would have changed upon reboot. Get the new miner IP and forward the 44185 port to that new ip.

Hey Vosk, Great, informative video. Things I wish I knew before receiving my Bobcat. The "relayed" mode. Although it was an easy fix to open a firewall port, it took almost a week before my miner's status was reported as not relayed. Also, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the transmission scale concept.

It shows on a deal site that it used to be about $250 and now is $429 (can't get the cheaper price to show). Also when you get to checkout it says 12-20 WEEKS for shipping to you. How long did yours take to arrive?

You should Include the new update to deal with the spoofing that is happening, it's going to effect high dbi antennas and make them not be able to witness other hotspots
I think they just addressed the spoofing issue. I have not been following too closely as my Bobcats are still BO’d.
Sometimes you see multiple miners in the same block on the Helium explorer. One of the miners earned 50HNT in the last 30 days, others have 0, some have 4. Do they compete for the same HNT in the same area and is it winner takes it all if you have more miners in the same area?

At around 4:50 you start talking about antennas, you need to be careful here. Your miner should be as close to the antenna as possible, you will lose transmission power for every extra foot of cable between them. If you must then use a high quality cable, a LMR-600 is best.
Also, new windows are often coated with a glaze to stop the sun rays, it will absorb a lot of your antenna broadcasting as well so place outside if possible or by old glass or an outside wall with no brick or metal etc in it.
