One of the best moments in genesis is where the wall of sound comes in, Tony Banks even said it was one of the best things they'd done. My favourite album ever - we love you, Steve!

Those slower than triplets "Triplets" by Phil Collins at 1:14 almost gave me a hear attack when I 1st heard it; (20 years after it came out; it was 1994 for me) I thought I was getting a live noise complaint.
I love how you talk about composers I'm not even familiar with but I've hear the name, although I cannot claim to be that surprised, with your love of Bach (Baroque) and Ravel (Late Romantic/Early Modern). THANK YOU Steve Hackett

When Steve said they were thinking of Egypt....it took me to a place I go with heavy orchestral music such as "In that Quiet Earth". It's a heaviness that stirs the soul and tells of another plane...another time. I saw them at the LA Sports Arena in 77' and In that Quiet Earth (with a little help from LSD) pounded my heart and soul. Still the heaviest orchestral composition I've ever heard.

LLDOB was an album ahead of its time. It was pro-to New Wave and inspired bands like Simple Minds (when they were good.). Gabriel was and is a visionary and one of the true greats of the past fifty years. `The band were at their creative peek at this time , even as they teetered on the edge of fracturing. Steve Hackett is and was a unique player who adorned the music with haunting lines of sustain that are creepy as hell and beautiful as anything imaginable.

Steve. You have always been one of my very favorite guitar players from way back in the 70s since I saw you at the Southampton Gaumont and bought NC and Foxtrot. Apart from your monumental talent, I also find your playing pretty difficult to replicate. It's very easy to sound a little like Eric Clapton and play the odd blues solo, but the way your guitar parts sit so intricately within the arrangements makes it ever more challenging. There are very few guitar players within the rock world who consider themselves as part of the band as a whole rather than taking a very individualistic approach. Let's not beat around the bush, you can take the spotlight at times and when you do there is always a real purpose to it. For example, the gorgeous flowing guitar section on Cinema show. It's not a guitar solo, but a beautiful uplifting, perfectly constructed section of the song. Genesis were (and still are) a formidable band, no matter which iteration , and the incredibly memorable musical passages that you and Tony (and Mike of course) will stay with us forever. My only complaint is I have just found out your show at the Anvil in Sept 2021 is sold out! Having seen you last time there, I'm gutted!

Absolutely tremendous. The drop from Peter’s vocal is still, after 45 years, fresh and powerful. Did not know it was “live” but it makes sense. There is an extraordinary feel and atmosphere in the instrumental section which is enhanced by Phil’s spot on drum fills from about 1.39 onward. Then Peter’s voice crashes in with that wonderful and evocative imagery continuing where the title track left off. Extraordinarily powerful. As an aside, the mood which the band builds on those first three tracks is absolutely remarkable - they were absolute masters of mood and atmosphere. Lastly, Right from the opening of the album Phil delivers a masterclass, an absolute masterclass in drumming.

Phil doesn’t get enough love for his drumming in the early days, older Genesis fans still stick pins in his effigy to this day, blaming him for what Genesis ended up being in the latter years. I say fuck em because the man is a living legend. In honour I’ve made my profile pic a spliff making Phil at headley grange circa early 75 lol.

You can absolutely hear the lyrics conjuring the word images off of the music and visa versa I'd guess. Peter had a way of punctuating and particularizing his diction to make the word images stick probably better than any other vocalist I've heard up to this point in my 60 years :-)) [young punk eh?] lol Love everything about that piece. It is haunting before we ever splat on the ghost windshield of fantastic New York ghosts. Love this album. Fabulous choice of melodic execution and phrasing Steve. You're work thourghout those years was stellar. You always remind me of making choices Debussy would make when you do counter melodic lines, melodic top lines... you play in colour. That entire line up had magic chemistry that I know you get and good on you for bringing these works back out on the road. Very much the Mozart and Beethoven, Debussy music of a gifted era for me as a budding musical person who was spoiled by what you did and still do! Please feel good about these fantastic performances. I think Mike and Pete get it not sure that Phil can get over the hurdles to being in an audience headspace so he can appreciate it from that necessary distance you need for appreciation. Thanks man! So wonderful to hear it performed by one of the originators of the music and so faithfully and engaging as you do! Fabulous! Thank you again!

At 1:15 there's a downward run on the guitar that's very Steve. I think it crops up in one of his solo tunes, but I can't remember which one at the moment. Will try and track it down... Found it. It's in 'The Steppes', at 1:23, from his brilliant Reading 1981 gig.

My Favorite Genesis album! I just love how it flows so well, with huge explosions of sound and the power of Pete's voice is extraordinary! Fly is such a great song, and has so much to give! From fly flowing to counting out time is just epic! So many good moments!
