Small market team? Oilers are #2 in revenue.
Last I saw, they are tied for 1st with Toronto at like 281m
Agreed but compared to Major cities in North America, EDM is teeny tiny, which IMO makes the team that much greater!!!!! Oil Country bleeds orange and blue
Typical of Toronto media, they never go outside the center of the universe, have no idea what the rest of the world is like.
It's a decent sized city considering how fuckin cold it gets in the winter.
We are a small market that does huge volume.
I really love Jeff Jackson for what he has done so far!…I think we don’t need a new gm unless we can get mark hunter!
dustin your mic levels are too loud
yeah makes my speakers sound blown
I rarely tune into these guys not because they don't have interesting topics, but for this exact reason. Blows me away (kinda literally) that radio guys can't figure that sh*! out. I'll try again every so often to see if they've become educamated and it's not looking promising.
Wait, small market Edmonton? LOL how? Oilers were top 3 in revenue generated in the league in 2023-2024.
Ya, it's interesting spin all around.
Tied for first with Toronto last I saw.
small market as in lower population, Edmonton's population is around 1 million, larger markets or cities like Toronto or LA have 6+ million for population. that's why top three in revenue is massively impressive
“Small market team” don’t be so sensitive guys. Maybe it’s not the best choice of words, but it definitely is part of Edmonton’s history. I’m guessing you weren’t around for the years of them leaving being perpetually a threat. Perhaps you weren’t around for the year after year of top players leaving to get bigger paychecks.
But even with this current generation. It is a pressure cooker environment. What happens with pressure? Things get smaller.
Players and coaches and management are under a microscope in Edmonton. What do you generally look at a microscope? Small things.
In regards to NHL hockey teams that have a smaller market, it would be worth mentioning that it isn't necessarily the number of potential fans that reside in a single market that is most important. What is most important is how much support there is for a team in a particular market. In other words, does the individual NHL franchise have enough support from its fan base to sell out its arena on a regular basis and is that particular team the talk of the town game in and game out and regardless of their over all record? So, how well do the Oilers or for that matter, any other Canadian based team measure up and especially in comparison to many US based teams? The answer to that question should be more than obvious. The game of hockey rules in Canada.
They need kane for just his toughness and scoring and drop gloves when needed kane has been a big part of this team they need his mentality toughness there is nobody except Perry and I think kane should be in before perry
Small Market Edmonton??? Game #7 of Stanley Cup Finals had WAY better ratings (in both Canada 🇨🇦 & USA 🇺🇸!) than the last game of NBA 🏀 Finals! (& NOT because Florida was in it!
In terms of city population I think
Yes they're referring to the actual city and size of city itself. Edmonton is a relatively small city.
Both mics clipping and double the volume of the guest.
I don’t find the term small market insulting at all. It’s part of Edmonton’s history. But if DD is going to advertised as an insider, you’d think he’d want to stay on top of the facts a little better than that.
Sabres completely failed the free agent signings. They needed to land a legit top six forward and didn’t do what was necessary to get it done. You may be harder to play against next year but your outcome isn’t gonna change. DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET AND SIGN NECAS only one left.
Stop confusing Edmonton tax with Toronto tax. MUCH lower here.
People always talk about mcleod, still young , speedy and play him on wing. But nobody talk about nuge he did fuck all in the finals .
McLown, Ceci, Kaner and Nurse are all please dispose kinda guys. Ceci is a liability and a terribly matched up with Nurse. glad that desharnais went to canucks good on him !
So your saying it took a genius negotiator to convince a guy who needs a contract to come to a team that has McD and Dria and the best PK and PP in the NHL and who just went to game 7 of the finals to come to Edmonton?? Lol, I doubt that. I think it's unfortunate they couldn't keep Foegele and move Mcloed instead. But ok.
