Excellent video on stropping. In most vids out there, the guys want to show you how the can make the blade sing when stropping. The singing sound though comes from raising the back whilst stropping...and than you strop in a wrong angle. The sound needs to be muffled. Only then the back of the razor is in full contact with the strop and the angle is right. Excellent job as always Geo!!!
It’s a good educational video. Usually I watch the video about the shave often by pressing the skip button but this video did not know at all how long it took. 👍
Nice video. Very helpful in keeping a strop heathly and long lasting. I currently use the spray on chromium oxide but I think after watching this I'll switch to the bar.
would you want to moisturize your strop before or after honing your razor?? i just got a blade for my birthday & trying to figure everything out. probably going to order some 12000 blocks from your store within the next few days
I use a dovo shavette and or Parker 63c love it way better then cartridge razors. Might get a straight-blade razor also? Any suggestions I see ones from 20$ to 300$? Thanks so much
It’s always good to know after you do the chromium oxide you should do another 25 on the opposite side of the clean canvas , than do 50 laps on the leather
It remids me the way my father did. Actually, my parents in heaven and my older sibling are barber , too. Intresting thing is the sharpness is kind of different how to strop own razor each. That's why our job needs to study more as long as being a professional.
you said that the latigo can use 1907 fromm or leather balm to condition. which is the best? or can i apply dressing after that i apply the lether balm for the latigo..can i do that?or only can pick one to conditon the leather?
I have just bought a new leather strop. I haven't used my straight razors in a while, I have a TI paste, however, I just realised I have the Green Chromium Oxide Paste which is rated at 0.5 microns and the Red oxide paste rated at 0.1 micros. My two TI razors are very close to shave ready. but my dilemma is I have just one leather strop, with one leather side and one cotton side and Three compounds ie TI paste, red and green powder. Which compound would you recommend I use with my new leather strop?
The chromium oxide is of a very high grit and will put a polished edge on the blade. Most put it on the webbed or cloth, but some apply it to the leather. It is strictly personal preference.
Hello: Bed Bath & Beyond stores in my area are now selling Proraso shave cream in a can. Is that goo in a can??? Have you tried it? It cost $15 so I didn't buy any.
I just bought my first straight razor ever with disposable blades. Do disposable blades needed stropping? Or is it not necessary or what's your advice? Thanks in advance.
Diego Alberto Jimenez Disposable blades don’t not need sharpening. In fact, I would warrant that attempting to strop it may result in damaging the strop. If it feels like the blade you are using is tugging on your face, then replace the blade.
Hey Geo, as someone who has struggled with razer burn and bumps for a long time, do you have any secret tips to minimize? Even with the hot towel, pre shave, good lather, and post shave it just seems to never get better. Then subsequent shaves make it worse again. Thanks in advance
Bro the secret is go slow and understand your wrist is the hinge for the blade just like the hinge on a gillette 5-blade. Thus, shaving without burn is really a practice of getting that 30 degree angle, pulling the skin taught and shaving. You will feel it when you get the razor burn. Don't shave if you can feel it.
You shouldn’t have to. As long as the strop leather’s high-quality and undamaged, all it needs is a rubbing with a clean, semi-moist palm. The natural oils will help to condition the leather and keep it supple. For balms, they’re only needed when a strop’s getting dry (ie, hasn’t been used in a while), or a periodic refresh once or twice a year to keep that from happening.
Great video; however, I would recommend going slower in the steps as you roll the spine especially those who never stropped a straight razor then you can speed it up towards the middle or end. Please LMK what you think of that. Shave On
This was one of the first videos I watched when I first got into straight razors. Now I’m like a year into it damn near a pro! I honed three razors myself on my Naniwa Super Stones. And I barely ever use my stones now because I only have To vintage Razors I’d like the recall dollars and I mainly use safety razor so it’s gonna be a while before I have to touch up one of my razors. I used to alternate between safety razors and straight razors but now I might think about doing at least one straight razor shave a week now
very useful! Watchng this you know that all those modern and disposable tri-diple blades are good only for shaving women legs and that is ok. For men's care I think this is much more of a ease, quality and enjoyment. Respect for other opinions also.
Lol - absolutely no way I will do that Before shaving. I will use a disposable razor and on my way in 2 minutes from start to finish. That’s nuts. Thanks Gillette.
Thanks for posting Geo. Good to see from the perspective of what is required for the straight edge option.
Thanks Koosk! That's a Disney character right?

Hi Geo- Great instructional video, as always! Thank you; well done. I hope you have a great weekend and best regards!
Thanks Mike-Be well!
Way interesting, and applied to sharpening any knife and or razor. Thanks for sharing this video!
Thanks Bryan!
Very nice Geo. I use a plastic zip tie and hang it on my bedroom door knob to keep my strop away from water unless I'm doing a honing video.
Great tip Stephen-Thanks!
Thanks Geo. Just getting use to the DE razors. I’m not ready for the straight razors yet. Its definitely looks interesting.
Thanks Carmine.
If you only have one strop and apply the chromium oxide on the inner part of the canvas material, how often should you strop on the chromium side?
Great video for beginners. Thanks
Thank you.
Very useful information for stropping!
Thanks Ron!
Great video Geo.
Thanks Jeronimo!

Condition it whenever: bit.ly/FrommStropDressingSN
Sharpen it: bit.ly/Naniwa12KstoneSN
Hope you will read this: how often should one strop with chromium ox?
Hi Geo, I'm a first-timer. How frequently should one apply the chromium oxide bar on the canvas side? Everytime or what? thank you
Once the green wears off-time to reapply
I'm a beginner. I screwed up and put the 1907 on the linen/canvas side, instead of the leather. how can I clean it off?
I use a dovo shavette and or Parker 63c love it way better then cartridge razors. Might get a straight-blade razor also? Any suggestions I see ones from 20$ to 300$? Thanks so much
Is it necessary to apply the leather balm on the reverse side of the leather strap?
Nice video Geo!
I like the Illinois 827 strop.
Can i order it fm Greece?
Thanks

You only need one, either will get the job done!
Thank you for this.

nice , I think it will work for army knifes too
Hi Sam, give it a try and let me know.
please make a video on shaving with a razor that needs stropping and its results after stropping

Hate when people walk In on me while “stropping my razor”
Bro I'm dying LMFAO 😆
How much pressure would you say you are applying?
Just enough to keep the blade flat when round tripping.
@@geofatboy Thank you.
Great video.
Thank you Roland!

Hi Ronnie, Thanks! No harm meant, just stating facts. We're all different and that's what makes each one of us special!
I'm here Slovak republic my friend How are you doing?
Great-Please check your other message you left on my other video. Thanks!
geofatboy ok
I replied to your email and it bounced back. Are you sure you entered your email address correctly?
geofatboy of course
I use my chromium oxide on the inside because I use the backside for my regular stropping routine, and it’s easier to just flip between the sides
Thanks for sharing!

The benefit of applying the CrOx to the inside of the linen side is that it doesn't get all over your hands every time you strop.

Hmmm, OK. Thanks for the tip.
Your door knob locks/unlocks in reverse :/
What a keen eye!👀 I gotta check that!
Didn't show the cleaning on the fabric sude
My mom walked in on me once while I was stropping
rychio1340 did she say. Your gonna go blind hahah
I whipped out my Bic and was done in 30 seconds.
Yabba Dabba Doooo!!!!!! You made Fred Happy😂
