- Hey folks! In today’s videos we’re back with more Gold Stake Balatro. In this run, a natural Negative Vagabond with the extra hand voucher generated an obscene number of Tarot Cards over the course of the run, fueling a Vampire and Fortune Teller while allowing me to shift towards a Flush Five build with relative ease. Enjoy the video!

I think vagabond is in the top 3 best non legendary jokers to see early. If you get an early vagabond, you should win unless you make a dumb mistake (which I have multiple times sadly). It's not a question of whether or not you can get flush fives, it's a question of if you want to. If you want flush fives with vagabond, you *will* get them. Money isn't even that much of an issue with the strategy anyway. If you copy a lot of gold cards or have something that generates a lot of money at the end of each round, it doesn't even matter that much
I would even go so far as to put Vagabond in the top three including legendaries at least when it comes to simply beating Gold runs. Even Helix isn't quite as good until you get your deck put together enough to have cards that are worth copying every round, and Helix can actually get you killed in high stakes runs where you are barely scraping by and can't afford losing that first scoring hand. Perkeo is really the only Joker I am happier to see in the early game than Vagabond.
Even in ultra high scoring endless runs Vagabond is top tier in the early to mid game where you need to get the deck through it's troubled first steps toward being a well oiled machine. There simply is no other Joker that can provide that level of deck manipulation, economy and hand level ups. So long as you aren't running a black deck, you can sandbag a bunch of hands earning 3+ tarot cards a round which is huge.
why did you end the video like that ? did you not continue the run ?

Im gonna suggest negative tag and when he takes it and its good im gonna ignore all the times its bad 😂
i always take it lol. it's neg so won't take up a slot, some flat mult jokers are helped by it since it exists and has a sell value, and at some point you can sell it also if you need money. Only reason to not take it is if your build is able to generate tarots or money or something each round so you want to maximize rounds played. but the negative slander has to stop. i take it 90% of the time.
@@fuzzybanana0123 I think you are undervaluing going into a round, as there is much more to it than the game shows.
Lets get the obvious out of the way; with interest set up you can usually get 13 dollars, not including any econ jokers or gold cards/seals. The average negative joker will sell for 4 or 5 dollars. So if you don’t want the joker, that’s 9 or so dollars wasted at the minimum.
You also miss out on seeing a shop, which means you don’t get the booster packs from it; you miss out on the main method of deck fixing. There’s also the jokers, planets, and tarot cards in the shop that you don’t get to see.
But what about the upsides of the tag? While it’s easy to think about the best of what could happen, it’s important to think about what else is more likely. Most often you will get a common joker which will almost always be just situationally meh, especially in Ante 4+ when you already have a specific build going and it becomes useless. What would you do with a Ride the Bus when you already have Scary Face and a bunch of kings? Or what would you do with a Lustful Joker if you are going for a high card setup? There are so many jokers that don’t help at all or very little to a specific build that 90% of the time you’ll care more about the sell money than the joker’s effects.
Even the uncommon and rare jokers are usually only helpful to certain builds, if you’re lucky enough to find one. Cards like Bull need tons of money to be useful in later antes and Sixth Sense barely gets a chance to be used. If you get a The Family, you practically need to hard pivot into 4oak or 5oak if you haven’t already been doing so. Sometimes they will be downright bad for you, like getting a Vampire when you have Driver’s License or Lucky Cat or a Burnt Joker when you have Burglar.
It gets even worse in gold stake. The joker being negative doesn’t stop it from having stickers; it’s disappointing to see your shiny new joker become useless after 5 rounds, or cost you 3 dollars/round just to have it (made even worse if it’s also eternal).
As for the jokers that it helps, that would be Abstract Joker, Swashbuckler, and Ceremonial Dagger. That’s about it. 3 jokers out of the 150 in the game, and jokers that are not really meant to go to Ante 8 anyway (ok maybe Ceremonial Dagger but come on, do you really want to use it?). Yes it can be affected by Gift Card and helps Temperance (indirectly helping 8 Ball, Vagabond, Cartomancer, and Superposition) but those are minor benefits at best. On the other hand, 59 jokers have effects during a round or at the shop that have a lasting impact (give money, scale to higher chips/mult/Xmult, give cards, etc.). That doesn’t include Blueprint, Brainstorm, or Showman.
There’s just too much missed opportunity to justify taking a small chance to get something you don’t want to sell.
All that being said, this is for optimal play only. If you want to take the tag because you think it’s fun, go for it. Anyone who tells you you shouldn’t take it at all is just stupid. Plus it can be good in combination with the Uncommon or Rare tags if you desperately need direction, or with Double Tag so you get a lot of negative jokers from one skip. Anaglyph Deck throws everything out the window.
