I bought this Peugeot as my first Lego set ever. I have to say that I'm really satisfied. The instructions were mostly easy to follow, even though I had had a few beers, although I have to say there was a moment where I had to undo a lot just because of one misplaced brick. The perfectionist inside me hates the stickers because they leave very little room for error. The car looks very nice. I think that the toy looks nothing like the real one, but I actually prefer the esthetics of the toy. The whole design is very study which is great because I have an instict for grabbing things by structurally weakest point. One small problem is that it's difficult to position the doors in such a way that they open and close smoothly, but it's not a problem big enough to spend time investigating. Something that is a bigger issue and applies to Lego sets in general is the inclusion of spare parts. Yes, it's nice they're there, but I was a bit scared that I had missed a step when I saw a few bricks still on the table after finishing the first bag and I had to look it up online that a few bricks are supposed to be left unused. After finishing the whole set I was left with four 2780 pins while online resources say I should be left with two which means that most likely I missed some connection somewhere, and now I have realistically zero chances of figuring out what exactly went wrong in my build process. Probably these two pins aren't important though if I can't notice anything wrong with the car. Without the spare parts included I would at least be able to track my brick usage per-bag. All in all, I wanted to have interesting and satisfactory, yet straightforward building experience which would result in a cool-looking display piece that also technically speaking satisfies the definition of a toy car just for that one evening sometime in June next year when I randomly decide to play with the car for ten minutes. I definitely can tell I got what I had expected. I already ordered two more sets to build in the future: the Sian and the Defender.
I hope Lego will find a solution for a windshield on their Technic cars. Back when they were largely skeletal like 8880 or 8070, the empty window frames didn't bother me much, but with this new much more panelled look they go for currently, it can look very jarring, especially on the Peugeot or Ford GT. They got a great idea on the Ducati Panigale bike, with the thick flexible foil windshield. If they found a way of making one fully transparent, and how to attach it to the frame, something like that could be the answer for cars as well.
It gets tricky because once you do a real windscreen you kind of have to do real windows for every other window frame or it’s going to look a little weird.
@@AresWasTaken Not necessarily. Look at the Creator Expert series cars. They usually only have windshield and back window, but no side windows. Many diecast model cars are similar as well.
@@CrazyChemistPL A lot of creator expert sets don't have it because they can't make custom window elements for every set, but in sets like the double decker and ecto1, where the windows are all pretty square and fits existing elements, they are filled in. Cheaper die cast models dont have windows because of costs and it's easier to open doors through the window, but higher end die cast models do have windows (unless it's an open top car).
I'm always surprised that people aren't fans of LEGO technic sets, cause I grew up on Bionicle and have had very few regular brick LEGO sets. However, some of the larger cars have looked amazing, like the white Porsche 911 set 10295, so I got that one
Honestly I'm always going to be horribly biased in favour of the older sets for their B models. And while this is probably a minority opinion I do like the more simplistic, chunky and off brand look of the older sets. I can absolutely respect the increasing accuracy of the modern sets but they don't appeal as much. It's probably just because that is what I grew up with, when technic sets never even had panels and they were all skeletons made of beams and rods. They were built more for functions and playability than to look good on a shelf while the old model team series (now basically creator expert) were all about minimal functions but high detail and accuracy.
I’m mostly in agreement. I’d rather have “a hybrid race car” that’s a bit blocky and lifts design elements from a whole category of vehicle, but with cool building techniques and lots of clever and interesting functions and mechanisms, than an accurate-looking Chevy or Porsche or whatever with excellent shaping but few functions and not very Lego-like. (For a similar reason, I sorta miss when the vast majority of Lego parts were blue/yellow/red/white/black/gray, and other colors were rare accents or nonexistent. Those bright primary colors are a big part of the look of a Lego creation, to me. I love many of the newer, subtler or more-realistic colors, but they lose a little something when they’re the norm.)
@@natbarmore IMO not having to adhere to a certain brand works better in smaller scale too because they can design something that looks good (or at least ok) rather than something that vaguely looks like the real thing but is a mess overral (see: raptor, shelby)

While I'm not planning on getting this set anytime soon I'll agree that this is still an enormous improvement over the first handful of builds at this price point scale. A denser more functional build with realistic styling is a really exciting direction for future Technic releases. Personally I really like the smaller scale of the Raptor/Ford GT but seeing a similar build trend carry over to larger cars is great to see. Also really love the B model on the Rally car from I think 2018. Despite the hollowness of the build it's still decently functional in both models.
Another great video .. It is definitely a must get. I am still having a bit of an issue with the fact there’s no windscreen. At certain angles, it looks quite odd because of the A pillars being so pushed back.
Thing i mis most in this set is the lack of detailing on the wheels, i would have used some blade pieces with some claws to make the design, missed touch but for the rest amazing set

At 1.43 , there is a part that you forgot to connect, which connects the hood to the windshield, and simulates the gap that you talking about, when saying that you don't feel the need of having a window. Also, GT cars, like the Ferrari and Porsche, are always higher then the prototypes like the peugeot, so that gap is perfectly acceptable

The LEGO Technic Peugeot 9x8 hypercar looks awesome, but when I hear people say it is a cool display piece, it makes me worry because it means LEGO Technic focuses on more on display and less functions. Also, I think a big missed opportunity are the printed tires. The real car has printed tires. Come on LEGO, why can't we get printed tires anymore if you call it a display piece? However, I still like the set and the designer of the model did a great job.
Thanks for this balanced review. Especially the comparisons with the some older models is very interesting. I would call it evolution towards the Peugeot and recent Ford GT. Luckily they didn't remove the HOG-steering in these sets, like they did with the Porsche 911 RSR and Ferrari 488 GTE. It really adds to the fun, when completing a model. In fact, I'd wish they added the HOG-steering to the 1:8 scale supercars too.

Agreed, especially since Price Per Part is not always the best indicator of value. Sometimes you have a set with a lot of small parts, other times with fewer, but larger or more expensive like electronics.
Just a correction: both the Porsche 911 rsr and the Ferrari 488 gte are closer to a 1:9 scale, respectively around 1:8.9 and 1:8.7, not 1:10 (as is the 9x8)

Thank you! I love your honest reviews. Is your panel gap solution made with pieces from another part of the set, or, are you able to get them separately? I like the look of your solution much better
Well, then you've sold me. I'll grab this before the 911 RSR (personally love Porsches) but will definitely get the 911 RSR before the year end discontinuation. Before that though, are there any mocs (the stock Jeep Wrangler MOC looks cool) or parts you feel the Zetros is worth getting for $300 CAD before the June end? I've never had any powered sets so it still intrigues me a little.
Hi i was wondering if you can help me with my build. My front suspension is not bouncing at all looks like i made a mistake when building it and i dont want to disassemble everything. Hope you can help me Thanks
I will get the Peugeot, but a will wait a couple of months, Symth's toys in the UK will discount it, I would see around £40 to £50 of the lego retail price. It will be a bargain then.
Balázs, I think you compared the car with the wrong pictures. The ones that you used are the preview renders , so the car isn’t the same as the ones that Peugeot runs on the race weekends.
@@RacingBrick I don’t want to argue or anything like it, but if you look closer to the air intake above the windshield, it’s definitely a triangular shape which is the new version, and the front of the car has two little winglets which also a feature that the show car didn’t have. PS.: Also, I think Lego always shows the pictures (on the box/website) of that specific version of the car that they tried to replicate. For example the new speed champions Porsche 963 set, doesn’t look like the current car (I mean it does, but it doesn’t have any sponsors on it), so Lego printed pictures of the car on the box, where we see the car without them. The same thing here, we see the current version of the car and not the preview renders.
@@hegedustamas4787 I understand that the car has changed, and believe me it will continue changing over the season, just like all race cars do since they are in constant development. I don't think any of those changes are significant enough to influence my opinion about the set or the end result. I simply used clean official photos where certain angles of the car were visible, which wouldn't be possible with photos taken during races.
Great review! I probably buy it but after experienced how superrior the Cada's engineers are, Lego really feels like a basic toy :( I hope They'll make a Le mans car too.
Unlikely we will go back to the unlicensed era of 1:10 Technic cars. The licensed models are much easier to advertise and sell to non core fans, and LEGO needs volume in order to meet the minimal production costs.

I loved the Porsche 911 RSR and Ferrari 488 GTE, the latter being one of my first technic sets and I'm a big fan of stickers, no really I am lol 😅 but other then this new addition to my 1:10 scale cars I really do hope next year they still come out with a new 1:8 licensed car with a NEW style gearbox then the (3) previous which is the ones I have (goddamn Porsche 911 GT3 RS, so EXPENSIVE NOW) but ya hoping they don't stop the 1:8 scale hypercars... 😅😅😅😢
In the rally car, when you look to the spoiler in the back of the car there is a mudguard panel
Haha true, but it is as big as the one on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS so it woudn't fit on the rally car in the "correct" position
Do you think the price will be lower in a few months?
what is the green car he showed call and whats the place a can buy it
Hold a flash light/ phone flash on the front glow in the dark bars this will charge them and when you remove the light the bars will be very bright
Very reasonable conclusion imho. 👍🏻
10:12 there is some bug ;)
42077 is still in my heart. But this new one have a big pottential for MOC. I am waiting for good promo, and probably it will be part of my collection.
Lol, I corrected it when the text first appeared but forgot that I used it later as well :D
@@RacingBrick sorry, my testers soul.
If you had to choose between this set and the McLaren F1, which would you buy and build first?
100% Peugeot, I don't really like the McLaren F1
Thank you! I love your honest reviews. Is your panel gap solution made with pieces from another part of the set, or, are you able to get them separately? I like the look of your solution much better
I used the pieces from the inner side of the rear wheels, I'm afraid not all of them are available yet in dark bluish gray in other sets
I'm still in two minds about this build...
The Peugeot is definitely an upgrade to the horrible Ferrari 44
88
Horrible ??? It looks good by me
Couldn't agree more, nothing about it says ferrari to me. Hideous
What about the 8070? Why didn't you compare it with him? It's also a cool model on this scale
Probably because I don't have all the Technic sets from the previous 30 years assembled?
a bought today this model 😬
what is that blue car with yellow wheels on the shelf above your head?
Set 42007 with other stickers?
Motorized 42077 with custom stickers
I agree I like older style techinic
They have to make the Ferrari 499p, would be amazing
Hi RacingBrick, Balazs here. Your Lego Technic car suspension is very durable.
Or is it?
But does it fit on the car transporter?
I will get the Peugeot, but a will wait a couple of months, Symth's toys in the UK will discount it, I would see around £40 to £50 of the lego retail price. It will be a bargain then.
So no gearbox?
Nope. Lego straight up lied.
If You know, what Lego sets are like with ~1700 parts, then You must have known there would be no working gearbox.
I personally don’t like the finished look but the build dose look good.
Хороший автомобиль получился!
Balázs, I think you compared the car with the wrong pictures. The ones that you used are the preview renders , so the car isn’t the same as the ones that Peugeot runs on the race weekends.
I used the official photos from Stellanis, guess these are the same as LEGO designers used.
I simply used clean official photos where certain angles of the car were visible, which wouldn't be possible with photos taken during races.
where i can buy 42039 24-hour race car? I really like it and I would like to buy , but I cant find that good price, can someone help me please?
So, no 1/8 scale lego supercar this year?
No, but they come out every second year so we don't expect any until 2024 :)
Price on "TFF" was 129.99€ at the beginning, after rise to 139.99
800 likes! Amazing! 😂
I removed the springs on the porsche rsr its much better now
How is the land Rover defender the same price with the features and part count of the supercar models 💀💀👍👍👍
Great review! I probably buy it but after experienced how superrior the Cada's engineers are, Lego really feels like a basic toy :( I hope They'll make a Le mans car too.
Next review probably gonna be UCS X WING
How I display my Lego technic sets: park them
the rsr is actually 200 euro i checked about three times
I just built that Lego it is so cool but I'm 9
Tescoban karácsonyig clubcarddal 57 ezer a szett, szerintem bőven megéri!
Unlikely we will go back to the unlicensed era of 1:10 Technic cars. The licensed models are much easier to advertise and sell to non core fans, and LEGO needs volume in order to meet the minimal production costs.
I still feel the price is about 30% inflated over what would be fair.
