That was the wonderful Ricky Van Shelton he was one of the first artist to highlight domestic violence in his song "LIFE TURNED HER THAT WAY" he's a great country artist and had success in the 90's, I hope you'll check him out.
I love Ricky!! I have cassettes & DVD's of his since he first started singing. I pull them out & listen to them quite often. I think he is one of the best singers country music ever had. The song, "Life Turned Her That Way", I always said was my song after I was beat half to death by an ex. I wanted nothing to do with men for a long time after that. The song just "fit" me.
‘Life turned her that way’ is one of my favorite RVS songs, but it was first recorded by Little Jimmy Dickens in 1965.
@@PaHeadhunter Thank you for that info, I wasn't aware of that. That's very interesting. I had never heard it prior to Ricky singing it.
Love that song and Ricky ❤️
@@PaHeadhunter Mel Tillis had a nice version too between RVS and LJD. I think it’s the first version I heard.
Ricky Van Shelton! One of the last of Country's Traditionalists.
Dolly has now hit double-digit reactions with y'all. She and Janis now have 10 each. Well deserved. Also... the man is Ricky Van Shelton, a country singer who was HUGE in the late 80s/early 90s.
I'd Love to hear Ricky Van Shelton...Crime of Passion! Haven't been able to get anyone to do it yet!! 🙂
Ricky Van Shelton is a great voice. He didn't have as many hits as others but vocally is up there with the best of them
@@KL-gn9kb they haves hundreds of reaction videos.
He was the man before Garth Brooks got big.
@@KL-gn9kb I kind of agree, Martina McBride is one of the country queens, but they did Concrete Angel and were so disturbed by the content of the song, they didn't even mention if they liked her voice. She has never been heard from again.
This song sets me off every time I hear it. First husband died in the Army in 1980 as the result of a training accident, he was 26. The second one I married 13 years later. He died as a result of cancer, from the burn pits in Iraq, he was 52. All I wanted was to get to those rocking years. Here alone, but would not give up the time I had with each of them. Two of the finest men ever.
our next door neighbor(about a ftball field away) had somewhat similar times with the loss of her 2 husbands(the 2nd one to Covid about a year ago). my wife and I spend a lot of time with her, we ALL enjoy each other. here's hoping your years WILL be filled with good memories from now on!
hugs. I too was denied those rocking years.
@@leroyleach7581 They are. I'm lucky to have known them.
@@Hobodeluxe960 Big hugs.
Ricky Van Shelton had several big hits in the 80s and early 90s. Amazing baritone voice. The best showcase of it I can think of right now is I'll Leave This World Loving You.
Keep it Between the Lines, by Ricky Van Shelton is a must!
And to hear the full range of his voice, I would have to add "Statue of a Fool" to that. Oh I hope they go down this rabbit hole!!!!!
She deserves her spot in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I understand why she didn't want to accept it.
But the Hall doesn't deserve her.
@@jsjazz12 The refusal was one of the most hardcore rock and roll publicity moves ever!
The dude is Ricky Van Shelton. He had a string of hit, back in the day. My favorite one is Keep It Between The Lines. It's about a father and son teaching each other some things.
Two legends Dolly Parton and Ricky Van Shelton
Y’all please do “somebody lied” by Ricky Van Shelton ♥️ or “keep it between the lines”, “I’ll leave this world loving you”
I second that! RVS had the 2nd best male voice of '80s country (next to Marty Rabon of Shenandoah.
I love this song and sung by Dolly and Ricky Van Shelton is so perfect. Ricky Van Shelton was so popular in the 90's. He did a beautiful version of Jack Green's song, "Statue of a Fool." Maybe you could try that one. Even though he looks a lot like Blake Shelton, no relation, last name's a little different. I have all his music.
Actually Blake and Ricky have the same last name -- Shelton. Van is his middle name.
(Although "Van" is a common portion of surnames derived from people of Dutch origin, "Van" in this case is Shelton's middle name. - Wikipedia)
@@ChrisW-17 Your right, after I did my comment, I realized my boo-boo!
@@ChrisW-17 your right.
Ricky Van Shelton was Dolly's duet partner in this hit. He was highly successful in his own right back in the late 1980s/early 1990s.
There’s a video - type in Dolly, Irish pub. She was on vacation and the musician in the pub said he knew one of her songs. So she sang - no rehearsal with a total stranger! Amazing.
Ricky Van Shelton in "I'll leave this world loving you" pure voice
Ricky Van Shelton has such a gorgeous voice. I Meant Every Word He Said. Statue Of A Fool . Many others. That voice could melt ice cream. You gotta do some reactions to his.
The vocal combination of D. Parton and R. V. Skelton just just makes this song, a tear-jerker. Thank you for your reactions guys
That is Ricky Van Shelton one of my late wife's favorite artist singing her favorite song. This one brought me to tears too Rob. We always thought we'd be able to watch the grandkids grow up together but she passed last year. After 42 yrs together I'm alone for the first time since 1979 and this song just wrecks me. Check out Ricky's song "Statue of a Fool".
For another moving song, try Brad Paisley with Dolly: When I Get Where I'm Going.
This song Rockin Years appeared on RVS's Backroads album from 1991 which charted 5 of its 10 songs. Amazing! Also recommend:
Keep it Between the Lines, I'll Leave this World Loving You, I Meant Every Word He Said, so many more great songs. Most of his hits were ballads.
For an upbeat, rockin piano go for Backroads (the song). You'll want to road trip down your own backroads to that one!
OMG when I get where I'm going! I can't even it's so beautiful.
You MUST DO Dolly Parton and Kenny Roger's You Can't Make Old Friends. Such a beautiful duet that was their last hit together. Even more emotional now that Kenny has past.
Ricky is one of my all-time favorite performers. I highly recommend (in this order) "keep it between the lines", "from a jack to a king", "statue of a fool". Other very good ones are Somebody lied, Life turned her that way and I'll leave this world loving you.
Ricky Van Shelton has such a pure voice too. He and Dolly sound so great together right? I highly recommend Ricky Van Shelton’s Statue of a Fool. It’s vocally beautiful.
One of my dear late Mom's favorites - Ricky Van Shelton. The song that reminds me of her and brings tears to my eyes is his song "I'll Leave This World Loving You". He has a beautiful voice.
Ricky Van Shelton is an amazing artist. My favorite by him is “I’ll leave this world loving you”
"Ricky Van Shelton (born January 12, 1952) is an American former country music artist. Active between 1986 and 2006, he charted more than 20 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. This figure includes 10 Number One hits: "Somebody Lied", "Life Turned Her That Way", 'Don't We All Have the Right", "I'll Leave This World Loving You", "From a Jack to a King" (a cover of the Ned Miller hit), "Living Proof", "I've Cried My Last Tear for You", "Rockin' Years" (a duet with Dolly Parton), "I Am a Simple Man", and "Keep It Between the Lines". Besides these, seven more of his singles landed in the Top 10 on the same chart. He also released nine studio albums, of which his first four were certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America."
I love Dolly - Amber you talked about her compassion and kindness. I live in Tennessee and she made it possible for every child in TN to receive a book every month in the mail. From birth to age 5 when they enter Kindergaren. My grandkids loved receiving their books and having us read to them. She is a wonderful person as well as a beautiful singer!
She also really stepped up to help the people in her area who were affected by the devastating wildfires back in 2016-17. I think she donated $12.5 plus what came through her active fundraising campaign.
My grandkids are receiving the books now.
The first song I heard from Dolly was "Do I Ever Cross your Mind" been hooked ever since.
I saw him in concert in the early 90s, some of us stood outside his bus in the rain afterwards. He came out & talked to us for awhile & signed autographs. Really nice & sweet.
Oh I love this song!!! Can't beat the "Queen" of country music. Yall would love "Forever Country"
It has the Queen herself and so many other legends.
It has three country classics:
John Denver: Country Roads
Willie Nelson: On the Road Again
Dolly Parton: I Will Always Love You
These songs are a medley
It features Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Little Big Town, Charlie Pride, Darius Rucker, Vince Gill, Carrie Underwood and soooooo many others. Please give it a listen.
Yes! That's a winner! A rare appearance of Dolly leaving her iconic wigs in the closet and showing her real hair. Would still love to see you do "Those Memories of You" with Dolly, Emmylou and Linda as Trio. The original video is so haunting with the song, and features the late great Harry Dean Stanton. Also Dolly's "Light of a Clear Blue Morning" video is a bit faster paced and very uplifting, and Dolly is incredibly beautiful in it.
If you like these kind of country songs that connect family members over decades, you need to hear:
Sawyer Brown - The Walk
George Strait- Love Without End Amen
Ricky Van Shelton - Keep it Between the Lines
Tim McGraw - Don't Take the Girl
This era of country music is my favorite!
Yes! "The Walk," by Sawyer Brown. I've seen only one reactor react to that.
Love Without End, Amen was recorded by ( Randy Travis ) just a heads up!
@@naomiwarner7117 No it wasn't. That's, Forever and Ever.
George Strait recorded Love Without End
You can't miss with Dolly. I would like to suggest "Hello God" by Dolly. It will give you chills. So beautiful and timely even though she wrote it 20 years ago. Fits today's world perfectly.
“ Statue Of A Fool” by Ricky Van Shelton live
Ricky Van Shelton! Awesome voice! This song was written by Floyd Partin, Dolly's brother, who passed away in 2018.
Ricky Van Shelton!!!! Love him!!!
Keep it between the lines
Statue of a fool
Wild man
I’m a simple man
From a jack to a king
I meant every word he said
Somebody lied
I got to see him way back in the day and got to be close to the stage! What a awesome concert!!!
"I'll Leave This World Loving You" by Ricky VanShelton is such a beautiful song, full of emotion. You'll love it!
Beautiful song. You two are such cute softies. But I understand it all too well.
Not long ago my babies were in the cribs,
now I'm 70. The rocking chair's coming too fast. Loved your reaction.
Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Dolly Parton and Rickey Van Shelton, absolutely love this song!!! Thank you for sharing💖💖💖
You need to check Kathy Mattea Where have you Been written by her husband Joe Venzer and friend Don Henry. Joe wrote it about his grandparents.
Another moving love song. Certainly worth a listen. It's very special to me.
This song is so meaningful I love Dolly and Rick van Shellton here . I love listening to these 2 duet pairs❤
Makes me think of my grandparents, both gone now! They loved this song.
I've loved this song since I was young. I grew up watching this on CMT! Beautiful song. 💖🦋
You can never go wrong with Dolly. Such a great singer. From her first note you can tell she's a singing. My favorite female country artist!!!
Hey guys, I appreciate your reaction to this song. Ricky Van Shelton is the man's name and he is my favorite artist from that time period. My favorite song of his is "Life's little ups and downs". If you listen to this song, you have to pay close attention to the very first 2-3 seconds of the music, it is such a wonderful sound. The reason I like him so much is that his voice is crystal clear and I have no trouble understanding what he is singing. Another great one of his is "Life turned her that way". You can't go wrong with him.
As the resident Dolly fan, I was sure we'd heard all of her yall were going to do! Glad you're still on that journey! Ricky Van Shelton said, upon winning CMA male vocalist of the Year, "Thank God for giving me a voice instead of big feet." LOL
This is my wife and my 1st song we danced to at our wedding it brings back so many wonderful memories we have been married for almost 27 years this August thanks for the reaction love it!!
Ricky Van Shelton, their voices complimented each other so well, honestly one of the best duets ever.
I love it. How many different types of rocking are there...there's a rock for every age and stage. This song cover it all! A lifetime of rocking.
Guys ricky van Shelton has an amazing voice- I’ll leave this world loving you, statue of a fool, somebody lied, life turned her that way, simple man, and so many more
I've never heard this Dolly song before. Thank you for introducing me to it. The sentiment in it is so wonderful to hear.
His name is Ricky Van Shelton. A star in his own right.
Please please please !!!!!! You really need to check out When I Get Where I’m Going from Brad Paisley with Dolly. Like this one it says so much so beautifully. The simplicity with such pure sweet heartfelt messages is what makes Country music so amazing to me too just like you said Amber. Love you guys! ♥️
Ricky Van was my entire childhood. He kept me going in my darkest times and gave me a connection with my Nana that was so very memorable and special. I suggest looking into more of his songs, you won’t regret it.
my husband and I have been married since 1977. I've been bedbound for at least 10 years, but we have my hospital bed next to his bed so we can hold hands as we fall asleep. It's our version of the rocking years. Watching Amber and Jay together with their children lets me feel like we are watching them in the midst of their rocking years, and it's lovely to see ,
well, Dolly did it AGAIN! we will be celebrating #58 this Oct. 3 years ago we bought a new house in middle TN...country road, 40 acre pasture across the rd. cows in the summer, gorgeous sunsets...and in the soft light on a spring night, we have the antique rocker and the wicker chair filled...hard work getting here, but, still have the girl with the most beautiful eyes(blue/green)sitting on that porch!
I lost my best friend, love of my life and soulmate husband, Pappa Eric a month ago today. God love and bless him he suffered for 10 years on dialysis, lost both of his legs and got a MERSA infection while recovering from his amputations and he loved me so much, he never gave up until his body just couldn't fight anymore. We had 24 beautiful years together and yet I still feel it was too short of time. I played this at his funeral. We are only in our early 50's and we didn't really get all our rocking years but I'll never stop loving him. I miss him so much. PS you guys need to dig in further to Ricky Van Shelton. I highly recommend his "I'll leave this world loving you" and "Keep it between the lines"
WOW.... my first time hearing this song.... what a beautiful sentiment ❤️
Dolly's voice will touch your soul and you have no choice!!!
Thank you guys, I'm going to send this song to my wife 👍
I love this and the man singing with Dolly is Ricky Van Shelton.
He's another awesome singer.
If you get a chance, please check out From a Jack to a King by Ricky Van Shelton.
Love Ricky Van Shelton! You guys should check out either "I'll Leave This World Loving You" or "Keep It Between the Lines". These are two great ones, but you can't go wrong with any RVS song.
There’s not a bad Dolly song. You should check out “Eagle When She Flies” if you haven’t already
✌❤🎶 You can never go wrong with Dolly..
This song doesn't get played enough anymore. I love it but it's one of those songs that I never just happen to hear on the radio or in a movie or anything. I have listened to it endlessly on purpose though. :) I am glad you found this!
Dolly,,, THE MOST AMAZING SINGER EVER!!!
I’m crying. So beautiful.
Both my sister and her daughter had this played at their weddings when the parents/grandparents were being seated. Such a sweet song. ❤️❤️
Ricky Van Shelton lives and grew up not too far from me. A friend was working a drive thru window and just about climbed out when he came through to pick up his order. He's retired from performing and is happily living on a farm and spending time with his family, from what I read about a year or so ago. I'll add my vote to the many who have suggested checking out his music. It'll give you all the down home feels you can handle.
I love Dolly Parton and Ricky Van Shelton was one of my favorite male country artists in the 90's. You're right, he has such a full and rich voice. One of my favorite performances of his is his remake of Jack Greene's Statue of a Fool. He had a string of hits throughout the 80's and 90's though. I think you'd love checking his music out.
Another classic Dolly track. So sweet it set off my diabetes. I like her bluegrass albums best. Dolly blends really well with Ricky Shelton.
I'm European and Dolly is representing a lot of the good things I love about America and Americans.
Amazing song. Written by Dolly's youngest brother Floyd, who is her longtime songwriting partner!! Very talent family she is a part of.
One of my favorite Dolly Parton songs. It's such a beautiful duet with Ricky Van Shelton. Check out his music, he's amazing.
Great reaction so glad you found your way into the Dolly Universe 😀. You should react to “9 to 5” on your movie channel! Of course you can also react to the song as well haha.
Also I highly recommend listening to the “Dolly Parton’s America” podcast. It is 9 episodes each episode is from 30-60 minutes and there is plenty of interview time with Dolly.
The guy with her is Ricky van Shelton another fantastic country singer
That was beautiful, Ricky Van Shelton was one of my favorite singers.
Ricky Van Shelton was one of the biggest stars in country in the late 80s early 90s. He’s definitely worth checking out. Try ‘I’ll Leave This World Loving You,’ ‘ Life Turned Her That Way,’ ‘ Somebody Lied,’ ‘Statue Of A Fool,’ ‘ I Am A Simple Man.’
For a lighter side of Dolly you should try "Two Doors Down." It's really upbeat and you cannot help but smile when you listen.
Dolly's "Like a Dagger though the Heart" is amazing. Sinead O'Connor covered it.
"Down from Dover," is one Dolly Parton song you need to listen to. Not react to, but just HEAR. It is the saddest, most moving song in Dolly's catalog of music. You will greatly appreciate her writing talents. You see it in your minds eye, and you will feel it to the depths of your soul. It is powerful, truthful, and tragic.
Ricky Van Shelton's Statue of a Fool is a MUST review. What a masterpiece it is!
I’ve always thought it’d be great for that dance they do at weddings when they bring up all the married couples to see who’s been married longest.
That's Ricky Van Shelton, somebody you definitely need to do a deep dive into!!! 🤠
Ricky Van Shelton is the guy. I LOVE his voice. He was popular in the 80s and 90s.
No one has yet to mention when Dolly started her career it was with Porter Wagner. He as the person she wrote I Will All ways Love You, for. They even had a short lived TV variety show, for a short time. She and Porter had many hits. Thanks again.
And it's Ricky Van Shelton he's one of my favorite male country singers.
He's an amazing Singer too and I love songs like statue of a fool, I'll leave this world loving you, and I bet somebody lied. But honestly I just love everything he does.
I think this is one of Dolly's best song. You need to check out her "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind". Also, check out her "From Here To The Moon and Back".
I'm in my Rocking years (79) and been with my wife for 62 years, married for 59 of those, this song hits home
What a sweet song. Love your reaction.
My Mom and Dad were always huge country fans, and they showed me this song when I was around 16, and it stuck with me. Now I am 47, 18 years away from that golden year time, and this song rings hard with me. Getting old should be beautiful. My kids are all grown up, but we still are raising our grandbaby. Well she is 9 now, so 9 more years before we can even think of preparing for getting old. I already feel old. I have worked so hard for over 25 years at my job for my family, and I love to say that I am ready to sit and rock now. Too much work has rendered my body aching and tired. I still have many years to go. Ug!! Thanks!!
That's the dream that kept America going all these years, glad you kids get it! Most modern folks miss the best things in life.
Lol yes, this song was played at my wedding reception with a slide show of our baby and childhood pictures.
A great Dolly song seldom mentioned is Light of a Clear Blue Morning. It's on the Doctor Shirley movie soundtrack (Dolly and James Woods starred).
Ricky Van Shelton is the man singing with Dolly and I love his voice. I Live this Life Loving You, Statue of a Fool and I Cry my Last Tear is some his best hits.
LOL, Jay, Dolly never has a hair out of place because she always wears a wig. Somebody once asked her how much time it takes to do her hair. She responded, "I don't know, I'm not there."
I was gonna tell him the same thing. She always has a wig on. And she's worn one for most of her career too.
Dolly quote: “It costs a lot to look this cheap.”🤣
Gotta luv her.
Love each other every day and tell one another "I love you" every day. I mean EVERY SINGLE day without fail. Because, trust me, one day one of you can be taken from the other and nothing will ever be the same again for the one who is left behind. I was blessed to have the love of my life for 32 years and we told each other "I love you" at least once a day for every one of those 32 years before she became terminally ill and was taken from me forever. The emptiness that's left is like nothing you can imagine. So cherish each moment you have together because one day there could be no more moments to have with one another.
Ricky Van Shelton ladies n gentleman 👏 best singing voice you'll hear
Beautiful song, 💖 the man who is singing with her is Ricky van Shelton 😭💖👍
Rob looking at you brings out the love you have for each other.
This song always touches me. I printed the lyrics on a plaque for my parents' 50th anniversary with pics from their wedding day and currently. Good stuff!
Ricky Van Shelton had quite a few big hits on his own. Two really up-tempo (toe tappers) that I love from him are "Backroads" and "Call Me Up". They will get you moving!
Ricky Van Shelton is a great voice and my favorite song of his is "Statue of a Fool" !
Really enjoy watching the "two" of you feel this song ---bless
That’s Ricky Van Shelton. He has lots of great songs. Somebody Lied is my favorite.
