    A Very nice Layout! Great use of otherwise confining spaces. I like what you did with the Yard over the return loop. What a Great idea! It gives your layout a multi dimensional effect!

    Dave - nice layout. Clean, simple and the track plan in your narrow space is a perfect fit. I like the upper section for switching operation and the main loop to continuous running.

    One of the nicest layouts I’ve seen in a long time . Not cluttered , and plenty of room for those engines to “stretch their legs out !” And by the way are you related to the former chief designer at Lionel , Frank Pettit ?

      Thanks for the nice words about my layout. As far as I know, I'm not related to Frank.

    Good Morning Dave.. I've watched a few of your videos..yet again.. on this one i noticed the hole in the wall where your old layout ran into the tan room.. I don't know what plans you may make in that area but, the thought came to me upon watching this video again.. if you put a mirror in that hole glued to the inner wall..and did your scenery to hide the opening some.. you could install a road from your industrial area, cross the track and into the hole and make that road look like it goes for miles..just a thought.. Tom

    • @davypettit
      @davypettit  6 лет назад +1

      Overland Transportation System great idea. I have been staring at that hole in the wall for couple years trying to decide what to do. Was thinking of covering it with a back drop but I like your idea. I will put this on my to do list for next fall. Not much work happens on the layout in the spring and summer months.

      I will need to move the crossing light and the track power shed to the right. They will need to be where the pop up access is. It may get a little tight.

    Probably a stupid question from a beginner, but how do you run multiple trains on the same rail power? Say, if you want a yard to park 2 other engines. I only have postwar engines. Is it only possible using the newer controlled engines?

    • @davypettit
      @davypettit  2 года назад

      Not a stupid question. I run legacy and TMCC engines. All track has a constant 18 volts. Each engine is digital controlled. With conventional engines you would need to install block control to turn off power in the yard while parking engines.

    Is that all lionchief and railking. Those turns are way to sharp for anything bigger. But other than that great layout

    • @davypettit
      @davypettit  6 лет назад

      Adam Hoch...engines are Lionel TMCC and Legacy. The Soo Line is Atlas TMCC. Curves are tight O42, which is minimum for the legacy engines. The room width is only 8 feet, thus the tight curves.

      Wondered that too as some look tight for the length of engine and cars. Still a lot of track in a tight space.

    • @davypettit
      @davypettit  5 лет назад

      @@gvet47 curves are tight but they are the largest I could use and still be able to walk through the middle.

      @@davypettit I grew up playing on trains. Steam locamotives and wood passenger cars. Dad put me on a train and the conductor would put me on a return train. How many kids got to do that? The old CB&Q.

    I find it quite odd how American model railroads are powered by third rail.

      Just O scale, Same reason the UK still uses OO Scale over HO, it's just so well established it would be impossible to get rid of

    • @davypettit
      @davypettit  6 лет назад

      It makes the wiring a lot simpler. The middle rail is the hot lead and the outside rails are the common leads.

    • @NHseacoast
      @NHseacoast 5 лет назад

      Ever heard of Marklin? From Germany 3 rails similar to 3 rail O. Marklin is HO Scale.
