    Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: The Colorado River was one of my old haunts. Thank you for taking me back there. I can see all those beautiful colors and clear water now...I remember how my hands and feet would throb from the cold mountain run-off. Oh to be able to do that again! But you've given me the next best thing ...to relive via this video. Ps I subscribed today & and loved your maker's challenge entry!!!

    Those are some awesome rocks you found. The moon stone and the black agate are my favorites with the jaspers, feldspars and the Stramatolites a very close second. Does the quartz with the orange (jasper)polish up nice? Great video keep up the great work.

      Glad you enjoyed it. The black agate and moonstone are my favorite. The moon stone is just mesmerizing. I found a big chunk or black chalcedony a few days ago much larger then this one. It will be same river but 50 miles upstream. That video should be out next week.

    Awesome finds!! I really like the black agate, I've never really found one myself but I read about a spot for them nearby so maybe i'll find some next summer. I'm kinda curious what type of camera you use in the vids, it seems to focus pretty nicely?

    • @RockHoundingAdventures
      @RockHoundingAdventures  3 года назад +1

      Thanks man, yeah I’m going to cut into the black agate and make some slabs, just found a much bigger black chalcedony a few days ago. Will see that in next weeks video. I’d definitely say you have to do that next summer.
      Its nothing special, I just use a iPhone 8 for videoing and do all my editing as well. It focuses well 90% of the time lol

      @@RockHoundingAdventures I’m glad all the opals are just sitting in the ground, aren’t you?

      Truly is anything being done with the site?

    • @RockHoundingAdventures
      @RockHoundingAdventures  7 дней назад +1

      @@lindboknifeandtool if everyone took a piece from National parks and conservation site there wouldn’t be much left for future generations to enjoy.
      There are areas around the conservation sites that are owned by the state and Rockhounding is legal.
      I always do my best to obey the rules so I am not the one that ruins it for others. Do your research and you should be fine. Collect in prohibited areas and you have the chance of being busted. And yes, BLM does survey the area. I know people that have served jail time, big fines, ect for collecting illegally.
      Have I collected something illegally before by accident…? Yes I have and I was ticketed for it several years ago in central Texas.

      Nope not in these parts. I have heard you can find some in the Colorado river between Grand Junction and the Utah border by boat 🛶 but haven’t had the time. Be careful about removing native artifacts in Utah.. very strict. Make sure you know the laws around that.

      @@RockHoundingAdventures I live in Hawaii. The Big Island, the youngest Island. I can't walk as well as I use to, but I have this beach I routinlly walk on. It mostly has round lava rocks n blue stones. But occasionally something different washes up. I once found this small white flattish rock with a brownish center. I put it in my rock tumbler. Idk what it is, but it has a crystaline like texture. Something different from the usual grey rocks we have here.
