I helped my cousin sort out a huge Victorian he inherited from his 96 year old Spinster/ school teacher Aunt. ( in 2002). She lived there her entire life and boy oh boy was it a time capsule chocked full of history. She was the only surviving child because her brother died in WW1. She inherited the house from her parents. Took us 4 days to sort thru the attic and 4 more for the basement. I took home a van load of lace linens and antique quilts. We also watched as an antiques dealer filled a large truck with antique furniture, art , pottery, glass and oriental carpets which at auction brought in $280,000. I thought it was dusty and smelly old junk! Who in the world would want old worn carpets and yellowed paintings of farm animals? Well, I was very wrong. It amazed me how much clutter she accumulated. How many sets of China can one old lady have? Why are there hundreds of glass goblets? Why does one woman need 6 closets of clothes? Boggles the mind. All the linens were white with embroidered or dancing ladies with baskets of flowers. 3 days in the attic. It was weird seeing boxes of beauty products that were 60 years old. There were mirrored compacts with little velvet puffs that were topped with a peach ribbon and velvet rosebud.... the detail was amazing. Even simple items like pens came in their original box, and folded directions were printed on tissue paper, neatly tucked into the box. I got the biggest kick out of seeing typed price tags with a knitted string and bow. Price tags had bows? AND the price tag also had a little picket with 2 extra buttons. Sales receipts were hand written in great detail, such as “ women’s white silk blouse , mother of Pearl buttons and lace collar by Milady Fashions of Deerfield Michigan. “ amazing. Those people had leisurely lives for sure. Hand written sales receipt! I also found foundation garments that were so weird. Heavy watered silk taffeta embroidered with ring and rings of silk thread that formed circular areas for the lady’s bumps and lumps. Silk stockings were neatly folded in tissue , in thin boxes that had pretty floral paper lids. Oh. My. Goodness. I really should write all this down, room by room and share it with my siblings.

@@ProfessionalArmourer Yup, but I know from two generations of farmwimmen that a mans' savin' of stuff that COULD be necessary down the the road chaps our butts betimes and a place deep-cleaned, fresh-painted and organised like that would make us sing HALLELUJAH!!
Check out that woodwork. It is hard to even find a house that size in most metropolitan areas that somewhere along the way natural woodwork fell out of fashion and was painted and ruined. I noticed this video has the most views on the channel and hope Cole does a follow up soon. Many people like to see the farm operation and the farm house!
That’s an amazing old house! Thank you for sharing your honor of the memory of your Grand Parents and for wanting to keep their treasures in your future family!
Very beautiful old house. This is a labor of love. Neat to be sitting in the room where your grandfather was born! Good son and grandson! I bet your parents and family are thankful for your cleanup projects!
Thank god they don't build like that anymore. The workwork? OK.. I agree that is nice, but you certainly can get something a lot nicer if you have the cash. Modern building of reasonable quality and significantly better than old building. In terms of construction science, materials, air quality and cost of operations. Old building let in crazy amounts of outside air, so in that respect the air quality is good so longer after it was built, but modern materials do not release anywhere near the amount of harmful chemicals. At least here in Germany. Maybe it is different for you guys in the US?
pablomax3045 You are right about the Energy Efficiency but for a lot of people myself included would much rather have to deal with some drafts then to give up on the charm and personality. And if that's a big problem you can always have main Windows replaced and blow it insulation.
@@richardheadmedia9497 I doubt it because the house was built by his family. Only one family has lived in it. So if it were haunted it'd be from his own family members saying "hi" and "nice job on the house!" 😛
I was so impressed by his desire to get everything cleaned out, preserved, or trashed. My son is 19 and his room looks like some of the 'before' rooms here! Great job, Cole. Your parents obviously instilled some great values in you!
Cole, you are so lucky to be able to live in that wonderful old house with so much family history!!! Not many young men would appreciate it like you do!!!! So impressed with you, your parents raised you right, they must be proud...
Here! Here! I agree with Clever Witch. This house is stunning. I am so glad that you didn’t paint over all of the wood trim. Just found this RUclips in May, 2020. You are indeed paying tribute to the history in this house. I will definitely be looking for more of your videos.
Great job, you make your family very proud!! This is a wonderful and positive video, so many other channels show sadness of forgotten personal items, which is very depressing and boring! Thanks for your positive vibes!!

No, not one 22 yr old would even know the value of keeping up the family home. I have kids that live with me in my parents 1922 home and all they say is, well it's old, when I tell them to be careful of the stuff in it. Careless and selfish. 😕
This is an amazing young man. The appreciation and respect for his family's history. All our family has are a couple chairs and a dressing table. Everything else, including our family bible, are gone. I hope you have great success and happiness.

Yeah, 102 year old house is fairly old for us. There are definitely older houses -- many from the 1800s, some from the 1700s, and just a few from the 1600s. But, still finding a 100 year old house unrenovated with the original woodwork still there and unpainted is pretty rare. I actually live in one myself with my mom -- not nearly as big as Cole's, and no farm! She bought it in 1983 and it had not been updated ever. I mean, not just the nice wood still there, but the original electricity, wallpaper, windows (no storm windows), glass and porcelain doorknobs, push button light switches, overhead light fixtures. The only thing that was not original to 1919 when the house was built was the 1950s stove and sink. Original cast iron stove is still in the basement, though. Too heavy to move! We have painted the walls and updated the kitchen, bathroom (and added a half bath), the electricity (couldn't plug in the toaster and a hair dryer at the same time when we first moved in!), insulation, storm windows. But the rest is all original. Oh, had have the front porch rebuilt last year (had rotted out), but it's the same design as it was. A lot of maintenance keeping up an old house, but I truly love this house.
DJcyberslash , really, you have to spread your ‘opinion’ on this site. Keep your politics on more appropriate sites that are geared for that. Sheesh....
Agreed! My family owned a beautiful home in South Georgia which is now a historical house since my 5th great uncle was the founder of the Elberta peaches. I recently found out that it’s up for sale for about $700,000.00 *ugh* which is way more than my family can afford right now. While I’ve never gotten the chance to meet all of my great grandmothers side of the family, I do wish that we could do the same like this guy did to his grandfathers house. I just hope who ever purchases my great uncles house next that they take great care of it and keep his history alive.
Just a beautiful home. Moving out of my home..1840... wishing one of my granddaughters would of taken it big sadly the couldn’t... happy for you Great job❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I love how respectfully you spoke of your grandfather and his possessions. I've been through this same thing both while mine was still living and then after and I have to say, we had some spirited debates over what was and was not rubbish. Anyways, I hope your parents and you are very proud of what you achieved and the hardworking, kind caring guy you are.
There's a very good chance our family did the newer aerial photo of your farm. Is it possible for you to check for a label on the back? I'm curious to know if it is one of ours. The frame and mat look like what we used also. Thanks.
This comment is probably more true then most people may think. Those who have gone before us know more about what's been happening here then others may think. I'm sure his Grandpa plays a part in some respects on how things will run in this home and property. The influence is there, and this guy was given this home for a reason.
I love how you’ve tackled everything with such enthusiasm! You seem to have a knack for organizing and you have incredible vision. You even do a fantastic job cleaning! Congratulations on all your hard work. I hope that you have a very happy time making this a lovely home.
take it from a farmer, the taxes he pays on the land, house, and buildings are more than the mortgage than most other home owners pay. Farm families that pass along property do it so the farm can continue and the next generation can get a start but it is not free or easy.
I realize that I'm a late bloomer in getting in on all that's going on with you Cole, but that house is simply STUNNING. And your right, those ceilings are beautiful. The woodwork in that house is to die for, its evident, that your grandparents took great pride in keeping that house brilliant. Aside from the clutter, for which everyone has that, most especially older folks, but otherwise there really are no words for that house. I'm extremely happy that you are keeping all the woodwork and hardwood floors in good shape and also that you are remembering your grandfather in keeping some wonderful keepsakes around to enjoy. Btw, the bedroom furniture is stunning as well, real keepers there. Thanks for showing/sharing your house, well taken care of it will be there for another few hundred years 💗💗💗
Lol... Lets hope u dont meet my family. They have no respect for family. I just want my parent part of the farm but my mom doesnt want to go to court so now i dont have anything of my great grandpa's or grandma's. PS... FUCK my aunt. Oh and my aunt isnt even fucking blood related and she FUCKING HAS EVERYTHING.

Zen would say; We'll see...Everything you own, owns you...As a builder/contractor for 3 decades, I saw 150K worth of work on the exterior...That house needs about 325K to make it Salable for a profit...
@@godbluffvdgg that depends if he wants to sell it. Not a smart move if you have a mortgage free home, why in the world would you want to move to another house, get into debt? Even if he brought it up to date, selling is a pain in the ass! When you have a gem like this that is handed down to you; you don't give it up. Not everyone wants to sell a home after getting it.
ROB-IN-PHILLY Wow! I don't see anywhere near $325k of anything needing to be done to this house! It's in gorgeous condition for the age. The original bathroom needs minimal work. Just needs a little cosmetic work - the tub and tile work on the floor is amazing and would be a shame if it was removed. The kitchen could use a little work to make it look a little more "farmhouse style" but it's completely functional as is - it could be made to look more like an original farmhouse kitchen for $10k-$15k if you know what you're doing. Again, gorgeous house that needs minimal work. Besides, this house isn't a flip, it's a family heirloom. I think it's ironic and hilarious that anyone might pay $325,000 to turn it into the "farmhouse" style so popular on RUclips, Pinterest and HGTV when it's ALREADY a farmhouse. I don't know...Maybe $325k in Philly contractor estimates! No disrespect intended.
@@justathought354 We're both right...:)...Sure, you can go cheap and do the bare minimum to get it comfortably modern but...To me; it needs all the clapboards ripped off, then address the inevitable rot or insect damage, Roof, same thing, All new porch the eaves are shot...And THAT is just the front; in a quick glance...I shot the first number from the hip but, to do it right, total house, with new windows, doors, etc etc etc...You might be closer to 200K exterior only...I've been working on big houses like this in Swarthmore for decades...It's not unusual to put 300K into an old house like that...

So would lots of girls. The problem is he's smart. He'd wonder what YOU can do? Painting your nails, doing your hair and watching TV all day, somehow isn't going to cut it.

doc watt my grandmother's house was wired when electricity was first brought to her town. The wiring was done with bare copper wires set into grooves in strips of timber and tacked together - suck a fire hazard! But even much newer houses with modern plastic insulated wire, can still have an electrical fire if rats or other vermin get in and chew on the insulation.
The woodwork and hardware in this house is amazing! The kitchen cabinets are so cool. Love the curved bannister at the second floor landing. I know it is a lot of work but it will totally be worth it!
When a room has a built-in china cabinet and is attached to the kitchen, it kinda means it is the dining room. So good call on relocating the living room.
@@icemancometh8679 Maybe, not sure. Lots of little details like that are easily lost to time. Gotta remember a house like this was intended to have servants. When that way of running a home fell by the wayside, so too did a lot of other things. Like a butler's pantry, or servants' stairs. With those went the lingo as well.
I think your grandparents would be proud that you are taking so much pride In the history of this be a utiful home and the farm. This is what legacy is all about. Keep up the amazing effort. And you are still so young. Most kids your age don't have the responsibility of life in them as yet.

This house interior looks like its in excellent condition for its age.
The exterior looks good too. Just needs a good scraping and painting
I really like all the wood trim, the built in furniture the floors & the ceiling beams And the paneling that I THINK I saw.
That’s an amazing old house! Thank you for sharing your honor of the memory of your Grand Parents and for wanting to keep their treasures in your future family!
What a Gem of a house and grandson to put this house back to use in 2019.
I was thinking the same, what a gem of a grandson!! His grandfather must/would be so proud!
Ditto to you both!!! Y’all took the words right out of my thoughts.
Wow that house. They just don't build anything close to this anymore.
The wood is beautiful you don't see that very often.
Yeah, like the crappy hollow core flush luan doors.
Maybe it is different for you guys in the US?
pablomax3045
You are right about the Energy Efficiency but for a lot of people myself included would much rather have to deal with some drafts then to give up on the charm and personality. And if that's a big problem you can always have main Windows replaced and blow it insulation.
We would really enjoy watching further progress on this gorgeous old house.
I do hope he shows the progress from time to time, it really would be enjoyable.
I want some ghost videos. It's gotta be hella haunted
@@richardheadmedia9497 I doubt it because the house was built by his family. Only one family has lived in it. So if it were haunted it'd be from his own family members saying "hi" and "nice job on the house!" 😛
His work ethic is amazing for anyone..... young or old. Wow...... I’m tired and I just watched.
I was so impressed by his desire to get everything cleaned out, preserved, or trashed. My son is 19 and his room looks like some of the 'before' rooms here!

Here!

so fun to see a young man restoring his grandfathers house, such history in that house
This is an amazing young man. The appreciation and respect for his family's history. All our family has are a couple chairs and a dressing table. Everything else, including our family bible, are gone. I hope you have great success and happiness.

@15guinea I learned about Cole through being mentioned on BCP.
Donna Ickes ....curious as to what BCP means in your comment? Looked it up and there are 416 meanings to this particular abbreviation so I couldn’t even begin to guess! I bet I’m not the only one wondering! Thanks!
This kid is genius. This is very satisfying for an almost OCD cleaner like me.
It's so cool, as someone from England, to see proper American history. Such a beautiful house and I'm so glad to see you carry on the history!
American history is filled with evil with benefits for 1 specific group on the back of the others. Not pretty.
Sheesh....
Your Energy and Love for your "families" house is Awesome! Way to go tending to and cleaning up!
There are so many beautiful old houses that need this done to them before they are forgotten and ultimately torn down.
Beautiful home with old school accents and personality.
Just a beautiful home. Moving out of my home..1840... wishing one of my granddaughters would of taken it big sadly the couldn’t... happy for you Great job❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Love the house.. Excited to see this house each time you do something to it.. Good work, Cole.. Your are a very hard working young man.. God bless you..

This comment is probably more true then most people may think. Those who have gone before us know more about what's been happening here then others may think. I'm sure his Grandpa plays a part in some respects on how things will run in this home and property. The influence is there, and this guy was given this home for a reason.
or could be made cause he’s throwing away all his stuff. 😂

Imagine being his age with a free paid off house one can only dream
*Dream LE$$ - Live MORE!* 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He is very fortunate and he made the right decision to clean and fix it up rather than sell the home for quick cash like some people would do.
It is a dream how nice it is I love his grandfather and i dont even know him
take it from a farmer, the taxes he pays on the land, house, and buildings are more than the mortgage than most other home owners pay. Farm families that pass along property do it so the farm can continue and the next generation can get a start but it is not free or easy.
🤷🏼♀️ at least he’s appreciative and doing the right thing by being responsible.
The world needs more people like him. Great job dude.
I wanted to thumbs you up but your avatar is disgusting.
I really appreciate that you showed integrity and respect for your grandfather as you went through his things. You are an amazing young man.

@@virginiatorres228 Taxes and upkeep...He insinuated he's poor...That's not a house for poor person...
ROB-IN-PHILLY
Wow!

Just a heads up we got my wifes grandads 1902 farm house it caught on fire a year later, please have the wiring checked that house is beautiful
doc watt my grandmother's house was wired when electricity was first brought to her town. The wiring was done with bare copper wires set into grooves in strips of timber and tacked together - suck a fire hazard! But even much newer houses with modern plastic insulated wire, can still have an electrical fire if rats or other vermin get in and chew on the insulation.

@@icemancometh8679 Maybe, not sure. Lots of little details like that are easily lost to time. Gotta remember a house like this was intended to have servants.
