    • @autumnacresminipetpigs
      @autumnacresminipetpigs  2 года назад +1

      I am not a fan of bottle feeding. Piglets tend to aspirate. I have lost several little ones due to pneumonia from aspiration. Pan feeding seems to be the best but it can be a challenge to teach.
      Are they squealing to call their mom? Or maybe because they are hungry? I would put a stuffed animal in there for them to root on and cuddle with.

      This is so common. Pigs will pick on a dog because they are trying to establish dominance. Make sure they are always supervised and stand up for your dog if he won’t stand up for himself. Try spritzing the pig with a water bottle when he picks on the dog.

    I just adopted an 9 month old mini pig. We have had her for 2 weeks now. She has started to be more aggressive and try to bite my kids feet and has attempted to bite my son when he was only petting her. I'm the primary person who feeds her, but I can tell she will be more aggressive at times. Does this technique also work with older mini pigs? She is generally very sweet. I'm starting to suspect this is the reason her former owner gave her up for adoption. The former owner was a young lady and stated she would be going off to college and therefore could not keep her any longer. Do you think having her spayed would also help with aggressive behavior?

    • @autumnacresminipetpigs
      @autumnacresminipetpigs  3 года назад

      This is very common and a huge reason why people rehome their pig. Change is very stressful for a pig. They don’t like it. That being said, I don’t use this technique with older pigs. I prefer to figure out why they are biting in the first place. I actually have a membership group where I shared a video on the reasons for this behavior. Here is the link so you can check it out:

      The best thing to do is to make sure that the piglet you buy was never given up by it's first owner. If you buy a pig that was abandoned by it's owners, that leaves a lot of emotionally scars in the animal and the piglet loses it's trust and becomes in distress. It can be very difficult to help a pig heal and to get it to trust you. Keep in mind that pigs can get very attached to people who adopt them. They also never liked to be left with strangers. They can bite strangers.

      Gabby k This is normal. Pigs are territorial and can lash out at strangers. They also target the weak (kids, strangers, etc.) so everyone needs to stand up to the pig. It is best if your friend corrects your pig. She can grab ahold of her snout and push her backwards off her feet. I know that it is intimidating but it should help a lot. Don’t show any fear.

(Isn't) we can scratch her if we move slow, but if we surprise her, she bites she sort of attacks when it's feeding time and we're trying to set the ball down she'll attack your hands or your arm she hasn't been anybody hard yet but it's just my husband and I and we feel like the snout trick is great except for she moves so stinking quickly that I don't think I could get a hold of her little nose!! 🤣 She is all of 8# and quick!!

      Oh yes! I totally understand! Piglets are fast so try to be ready and don’t be afraid to reach out and do a snout hold. Sometimes I have my kids wear gloves so they aren’t afraid. We even bait our piglets in order to teach them more quickly. Gloves really give us confidence that we won’t get hurt.

    • @autumnacresminipetpigs
      @autumnacresminipetpigs  Год назад +1

      This is so common. It’s like they are blinded by the opportunity to get a treat. When they bite - even on accident- grab their snout. Remember they need a reason not to bite so the grab has to be quite forceful. If you do it right, it should only take 2 or 3 times of being corrected.
      You can also wear some gloves so you aren’t as nervous.

      Biting is very common, especially when they are afraid. Pigs are nervous with change so I would give her some time to settle in. If she is still biting, correct her the way I show in this video.

    How to my mini pig from rotting on me?

    • @autumnacresminipetpigs
      @autumnacresminipetpigs  4 года назад +1

      Rebecca Watson redirection helps. Give him something he is allowed to root on. It also helps if you know why he is rooting on you. Is he very young? Baby pigs root on their mom when they are hungry. But no matter what the reason is you need to stop it because it will hurt as your pig grows. You can use the same correction for biting or nudge the shoulder and say NO. Push him away from you. If you are consistent, he will stop.

      Three weeks is really early to away from it’s mom. If correcting her the way I show in this video doesn’t work, please email me. We can set up a consultation and I can help you figure out how to help her calm down so she can bond with you.

      Pigs that aren’t corrected from a young age do tend to bite. If you can begin correcting him/her now, it should get better. The younger you start, the better.

    When he bite hit him or squeeze him until stop

      Grab his snout for 3 or 4 seconds. Doing that several times should teach him to stop.

    • @prestonwhitacre8882

      There’s like barely any bacon on the mini pigs, it would be better to buy bacon from the store then eat a mini pig, get a life bro and don’t just leave rude comments on peoples videos that are just trying to help others out.

    • @autumnacresminipetpigs
      @autumnacresminipetpigs  2 года назад

      I don’t suggest doing that. A pig’s snout is very sensitive so flicking or swatting it isn’t a good idea.
