Great, honest review. I’ve always loved these lugs from Pearl because they show off more of a drum’s finish.

Every Pearl masters and above kit I have never seen a hardware issue. That's almost non existent in their high end kits. Also they would replace it for sure. I like the reference kits but I think the session studio kits are the real value for $ kits. Freaking amazing kits.
Something about that finish I find very attractive.
I've been really curious about those new mounts, I have optimounts on my masters maple complete set and the drums just don't sound as lively and booming as I'd like. I've tried all kinds of heads and even a rims type mounting system and I just can't get a sound I'm in love with.
A drum set with a finish that looks like wet cement. How lovely.
Too sad it's the only available finish...

I'm not impressed with the sound of this set. I think the new Pearl President series sounds better than these drums. The President series cost a lot less too.

@@davidlanier7006Agreed. The low tom has a sort of warbly sound, and the high tom and snare sound choked.
Save your money and just find a used/on clearance Session Studio Select. Pearl's dilemma is their quality control is so good you can make their Decade Maples sound professional.

Interesting! The Pearl Masters I once owned had the smoothest tuning lugs I've ever encountered. And the sports car grey colour really seems to be a trend right now. Not a fan personally.
It's be nice to see you review some Tama kits. It seems like you've only review some low end one.

Not a fan of that finish at all. The prices at Pearl have gone through the roof. Too bad, their hardware is great, they don’t have a lot of the QC issues a lot of the other mass production companies have. I have an MCX from 09 that I’ve gigged heavily with and there’s no pitting in the hardware or cracks in the sparkle fade finish. It still looks beautiful under stage lights.
I think the Pearl drum makers were looking outside the window at a
BMW car when they decided on this sad finish!!!

Personally it sounds almost too pure or clean. Not my flavor but different heads could change that.

Great sounding drums, nice playing…………..horrible finish. I don’t even like that flat finish on vehicles.
Over-priced. When you spend £3k+ on a 4-piece kit it should sound good with any type of good quality heads on it.
I would never buy these drums just because of their color 😬🤢🤮
You do know they have plenty other finishes right? If this colour aint for you, you have the option to get a different one.

@@kilotangoaviation4236 My thoughts exactly. Takes a minute to explore what other finish options Pearl offers in this line. Realize that this finish is polarizing, but I rather like it. As someone else stated, it would look awesome with black hardware.
