Thanks, helped me so far, got my shade out.. fixed up the glue. My car only had two screws on each side of the shade. No other signs of anyone being in there. I removed the lower part of the bellows after removing the glass as it was quite stuck.
Thanks for the video. It's a T20 Torx on the screws holding the glass in. Another way to get the bellows loose without using a screwdriver is to get your finger behind it at the rear and pull forward gently.
Finally found someone that shows exactly what I need! Great work! Can I assume this procedure will work the same way on my E83 that has a motorized sunshade? Need to replace the sagging fabric which is a whole other issue...
@@davidr6757 I did not, never had the time. Instead I just tore off the fabric. there's like 2 layers, the outer layer, the nasty glue stuff between and then another sticky layer stuck to actual plastic of sunroof shade. Its now just bare black plastic, but it does kinda rattle a little bit now when going over bumps cause no padding. still better than flakes of glue falling on me.
Mine was missing the same 2 screws in the back of the slider yours was. I wonder why? I was able to find perfect matches for them and fixed that issue. After I put those missing screws in and fastened them down the the slider was very tight to slide back and forth.
Hi Doug, thanks for the video, I have a question. Like you mentioned at 4.56 my sunroof gets hung up too and it doesnt close completely. How did you manage to solve your problem? because I cannot remove the glass anymore as I can not bring the glass to tilted position
You may need to crank it manually. If your in car tool box is stocked, grab the Allen key that's in there. Stick it in the hole in the center of the sunroof motor and turn it. Your hand be angry with you but it works. You may also try resetting the sunroof altogether. It could simply be in a bad mood.
Thanks Doug!
Very good information. 30 minutes and everything was out. Thank you so much for making this. I've got mine out and I'm about to drop the headliner.
Thanks for the video. It made my day so easy with this process.

I tried the finger method. My fingers are too big. I ripped one like that in one of my old e38s.
Thank You for this video!
It was very helpful!
God Bless!
Thanks Doug! This tutorial helped me a lot!
Looks like I'll finally be using Doug's method...
Great vid!
Nice job!

Did you find out if this is similar for an E83? Mine is sagging badly..

Hello Doug B.
I've got a e39 touring with almost the same sunroof.
If i want to take it out, i can't slide it forward? I saw you slide it backward.
Are you referring to the shade not being about to go forward?

I think the sunroof of the e39 and e38 are different :)
