Observing this, I can clearly see how attached Gene Rayburn was to his wife, Helen, claiming nobody could possibly take her place. It is no wonder Gene's health went into free fall after she died and clearly did nothing in the last years of his life. On the other hand, look at Patty Duke and John Astin. That marriage ended because of Patty's manic depression. She eventually got better and now I believe has been married for years. What can you say about Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara? What a couple. Married for 61 years. They were a great team too! Let's see if Jerry is able to pull himself out of losing his wife. It is definitely not an easy task. We will miss Anne very much! Thanks for posting this!

I'm sorry, but I have to gripe a bit here. I actually watched this when I was about 10 and it was on CBS in the afternoon. It never dawned on me that this show paid out so little. Usually the point of a game show is to see big cash and prizes awarded. This show's more like Newlywed Game but with celebs, which I guess is what gave it it's popularity.
Having said that, there's what....100 people per section right? Even on the biggest jackpot ever, that's $16.75 per person in that section. Oh BOY!!!!! :) Talk about a chintzy show, oh my! I remember Convey saying that they have checks that automatically print out the amounts as the guests leave. So the blue section gets nothing, the red section gets a check for .75 per person as well. OMG!!! Talk about a tight budget. I can't believe how long this was actually on. I guess at the start they knew they had to add the $1,000 to the winning share and even with it......what's the average, about a $300 haul? So with a grand added, it's $1,300 split 100 ways for $13 per guest. Good Lord, what a cheap show. LOL!

In another episode Burt talks about how members of civic organizations and clubs will secure blocks of seats with the intent to donate the winnings to a preferred charity. That makes the (admittedly meager) prize money have a bit more bang.

This episode of Tattletales from 1978, was towards the end of its first incarnation and original run on CBS with host Bert Convy and announcer Gene Wood who would later return on Super Password in 1984. Tattletales returned to CBS for its second incarnation in 1982, with the same host Bert Convy and new announcer Johnny Olson. And at 0:44 Bert Convy said welcome to blank, but it is not Match Game as Gene Rayburn and his wife Helen were on Tattletales in this episode. RIP Gene and Helen Rayburn, Patty Duke Astin, Anne Meara, Bert Convy Johnny Olson and Gene Wood. Match Game Super Password and Tattletales now air on BUZZR.

The irony of it all (since women statistically outlive men by 2 years) the husbands in this feature outlived their female spouses. And these women were actually younger than their husbands. And young-looking Burt, who died before them all, never made it past the year 1991 when he passed at the tender age of 57. Jerry Stiller and John Astin, the oldest of them all (besides Gene) are still alive. Life is full of paradoxes. As they say in the Far East: We're all born in order, but we don't die in order.

How does it feel to be a troll who likes to stir up trouble? John Astin is NOT dead. Please try, if you can, to keep foolishness from the website. Calling people names who you don't know is a sad sign of where our society is, with Jezebels contributing to the hate that is destroying us. So if you lambaste someone, make sure you get your facts straight so that you don't expose extreme ignorance. Then again, some people enjoy stupidity.
