    With you talking about how close this is to DD1 for so much less money, I would be interested in seeing you do a video on the best "Bang for your buck" complete rig. Like where you might say a CSL DD on a Titan rig, with these certain pedals and whatever modifications etc. is the best setup for the best price.
    Obviously value for money is subjective, but just a complete rig that's the best value before spending more is edging into diminishing returns. Great video as always.

    For anyone having issues with the CSL DD
    * Not being able to calibrate the H-pattern mode of the SQ 1.5 shifter:
    (1) Try with the short cable provided with the shifter.
    (2) If unsuccessful, unmount the wheel base, hold it tightly between your legs and try with short cable.
    ** Wheelbase or steering wheel disconnects in driver page or FFB/buttons/pedals quit working in-game:
    - on pc -
    (1) Connect the wheelbase with a wheel mounted and turn it on.
    (2) Open the driver page.
    (3) If everything seems connected, tighten the black C-clamp on the wheelbase shaft a bit (or to 15Nm torque) and see if the issue persists
    (4) If the issue persists or something shows to be disconnected: Loosen the black C -clamp on the wheelbase shaft till you can rotate it slightly without too much effort.
    (5) Rotate the clamp gently till the driver page shows everything connected
    (6) Tighten the black C-clamp on the wheelbase shaft a bit (or to 15Nm torque) and see if the issue persists
    I've had both issues, where the disconnection issues got worse and worse till the both of my wheels showed disconnected permanently. And after a month of trying drivers/firmware/usb-ports etc. these solutions solved my issues.
    *** On my initial fresh install of my CSL DD with Boost kit, the FFB was very weak. This was resolved quickly for me by uninstalling and re-installing the drivers again.

    Hi Karl, great review. I'm 60 and have been using my G29 since I started iRacing last year. Upgraded the brakes to AXC-SIM True brake after watching your review. I think I reached the limit of that so upgrade to T-LCM pedals just recently. After watching a few reviews in the CSL-DD I decided to buy the 5Nm version. Now having watched this review I am more convinced that I am making the right choice. About $985 Aust dollars with the McLaren wheel and shipping is a stretch of the finances, but I am sure it will improve the experience and hopefully my driving. Don't know why you only have 25,000 subscribers. The rest are clearly missing out. Big thumbs up for this review. Placed my order last night.

    Thanks a lot for the review, Karl. I have been hesitating to buy a replacement for my 12 year-old Fanatec CSR wheel as I love that wheel so much … it was classically over-engineered and still works beautifully with all the latest sims despite a very modest output (3.5 NM, if I remember correctly), albeit with a ButtKicker to assist with feedback. When this was announced and I was able to purchase the CSL DD on pre-release, I decided to pull the trigger. Now I am glad that I did and look forward to my new wheel arriving in October. A significant portion of the sim racing community use their pc exclusively for sim racing. The equipment in this video is at the low end of the mid-level gear in price. It ain’t cheap, but it’s so good that real race car drivers use simulators to practice. When you compare the price to something like a single track day it’s suddenly not so crazy.

    • @user-wq9mw2xz3j

      @@aaronjacobtrent right. looking it as a toy, it's very expensive. Looking at it for what you get, and possibly the alternative (real racing), it's way cheaper.

      On December 28th 2021, I ordered a CSL DD with the booster, and a WRC rim from Fanatec, as well as a GT Omega Prime cockpit with XLRS seat from GT Omega - that was listed as "In Stock" at the time of purchase, but it's been over a month and neither company has even bothered to ship anything yet. So they put me in the "pre-order" waiting line even though I purchased "In Stock" products, only to get nothing, and be told "they'll ship when available", whenever that is. I'm sat here thinking - If it isn't available, then why was it listed as "In Stock?" I wouldn't have bought it if it said pre-order. I feel cheated.

    hello and congratulations on your videos, I immediately noticed a very slight "electronic hum / micro vibration" when I turned the steering wheel to the right. I also noticed that setting the natural dumper to zero this disappears. The same micro vibrations are also present when I enable natural friction and natural inertia. Thank you for your support

    What I don't get is buying the combo with the 180W to save $20, when you can get the 90W for free plus the 180W if you buy them separate.... so you basically get a 90w backup psu for $20 in case the 180W goes bad while you get it replaced. That's what I would do, but I'm DIYing my own Mean Well 360W PSU.

    • @WascalSpiwit
      @WascalSpiwit 3 года назад +2

      You should just get both when you order the boost kit as a bundle, and have the option to remove the 90W for extra discount.

    • @KarlGosling
      @KarlGosling  3 года назад

      Thats really a choice only you can make mate, will massively depend on what sort of games you play, Rally for example will need a round wheel and cannot be played with an open wheel, but if you're into F1 or other circuit racing you may be ok with just an open wheel and they can be played with a round one if you're a Rally guy too.

    My CSL DD just burned up during the first 30 minutes of use :( the magic smoke came out. It felt amazing before it went to join my other dead wheel bases in the sky.
    Pro Tip: Cut some popsicle sticks to space the T nuts so they align with the mounting holes in your base so you don't have fits trying to push them in once the first ones are screwed in. Trust me.

    Pretty sure a 24V@8A PSU will work fine. It's really a shame Fanatec wants 170 USD+tax+20 for shipping for something that costs 30 bucks and a lot less when buying in bulk.

    A note about the power supply comment, I thought the exact same thing about the power plug on the back. And I do believe that it is, in fact, the same as the 4 pin CPU power connector on almost every motherboard. BUT, one fundamental difference that will prevent you from cheating the system is that the main power rail in a PC power supply is 12v, whereas this wheel requires 24v, making it completely incompatible with PC power supplies.
    Which I'm really disappointed by, because I was really hoping to use my PC power supply to get the maximum 8nm out of this setup. I guess I really will have to shell out the extra 260 AUD after all :(

    • @KarlGosling
      @KarlGosling  2 года назад

      Yeah you're right mate, I thought there was a 24v rail but there isn't :(

      @@KarlGosling It's such a pity, that would've been an awesome free upgrade once it was out of warranty. (Fanatec specifies that using any psu other than the provided ones voids the warranty)

    Hi Karl, really like the channel and have bought playseat challenge, f-gt lite, g920, csl dd and csl lc all on your advice. The question I have is now that you have a relationship with Fanatec, can you ask them if there are any plans to work with Microsoft to improve compatibility between their products to include more than just controller buttons. This is the only disappointment I have with all the gear I've bought. Thanks for all the videos, great advice and I have agreed with 99% of your opinions.

    I must ask, did you teat with that wheel because you didn't want to disturb your main set up or because Fanatec recommended you to use that rim. (Only ask because I'm trying to work out how much heavier will will dampen the FFB)

    • @KarlGosling
      @KarlGosling  3 года назад +2

      I used that wheel because my Sparco is deep dish and was far too close to my chest to drive when I fitted it.
      IME with fitting bigger/heavier wheels to low powered bases (G920 for example) you lose very little and this is far more powerful than a G920!
