Ah,I had such a crush on Anton Rodgers back then! He died comparatively young 😢 too♡♡♡ I'll always have a place in my heart for him and enjoy the great legacy of work he left us ♡♡♡♡
@@susansherlock6934 Yes I read that😢so sad,so young to go that way. I read a cruel comment somewhere, the comment was "he died of old age"😡 not true and so callous. R.I.P Anton Rodgers💜
Confused ? Prunella Scales isn't in this. This was made about ten years after Fawlty towers.Presume you mean the maid? played by Rebecca Lacey ? Time of writing Rebecca is 53 years old Prunella is 85.
So true, I never liked her constantly on the scrounge and in typical sitcom world ( where the usual rules of human behaviour don't apply ) no one ever told her to p*** off, they would just let her take whatever she wanted.. .So Annoying!! I've never understood why the hell do comedy writers put in these irritable characters, it ruins the enjoyment, and yet it happens time & time again, and there many other sitcoms where you have a certain character or characters that you just can't abide, they add nothing to the comedic flow. I never liked French Fields ( despite the long overdue absence of Sonia), it was never the same show filming abroad, something was definitely lost. I recently watched an old episode of Midsomer Murders and to my delight the brilliant Anton Rodgers was in this particular episode playing an eccentric Lord Of The Manner (if in title only) a really pleasant surprise. Coincidentally Julia McKenzie also appeared in an episode of MM too.
The character of "the problematic neighbor" has been a comedy trope for ages. Perhaps it's for contrast, who knows? But it's a very tricky role, a fine line to maneuver; too mild and the contrast is lost; too much and the character is annoying. Depending on my mood, I sometimes like Sonya, and other times she is annoying.
She definitely destroyed it for me. And how he puts up with living in what seems paddington railway station, people just popping in whenever they feel like it. The maid played one of his secretary's in 'From May to December'.
Old sitcoms take me back to the happy safe place of being a kid😍
Me too
Anton Rodgers was such a good character actor.
Love the series!
13:50 Oh this girl became Anton's employee in May To December. Another great romantic comedy!
Marvellous times...great entertainment..unlike today.. ..
That looks like fun going to a hotel like that for dinner.

Anyone that loves 😍this show got fantastic taste
Love the show. Watched it too years ago. Good actors . Shame most have passed now.
Watched this when I was a kid 💕💕
The maid plays Hillary in the other show Anton Rodgers did called ‘May to December’
OOh Mr Callender you are naughty!!
May to December 😃
Yes, wasn't the waitress the same lady who played Hilary in May to December?
Didn't realise til I read it earlier that the late Ann Beach ("Only Sonia") was the mum of (also the late) Charlotte Coleman aka Marmalade Atkins.
Really funny 😂 I love a good British comedy
The plot intricacies left me baffled at every hilariously misunderstood turn (dahling). Right up there with Fawlty Towers !
That was ACE!!!
lmao. that was a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Classic tv
Even though this show is dated, in terms of men/women, I’m always smiling at the end.
I wish were were still "dated"
Love it !!!
The maid Rebecca Lacey went on to work with Anton in May to December.
hilary
Also on Home to Roost
Loved her in that one. Funniest voice.
@@timkeenan600 "miss flood"

21:43 .....But Sonia, you took two bottles of sherry!!

Too funny 😂
Sonia always borrowing,,
So I've already watched the 1st season and all they talk about is ALCOHOL !!!!!
sbnsbaker1 “It’s only Sonia.”
It was the 80s culture! 🥂🥂
@@citizen1163 no it's just lazy script writing
A very young Prunella Scales, is that place Fawlty Towers?

It’s Julia McKenzie.
The Sonia character nearly destroyed this show.
