What is so completely appalling is not so much the swear words, or at least some of them, as it is the frequency. Some profanity does have its use - it can serve as a warning that the speaker is really and truly angry, but now it is so casual, with some words becoming adjectives and adverbs. As Margo Ledbetter said, "English is such a rich language...", but it has been made trivial, impoverished and tawdry by a bunch of hooligans and riff raff.
I got a DVD of this from my local library. Then they had the audacity to withdraw them. I bought series 3 and 4 from a library sale so was delighted to find the first 2 series and then even more delighted to find out about French Fields. So cheerful and fun! Great way to relax and laugh. Thanks for sharing!
The food critic Mr Prendergast was portrayed by Geoffrey Lumsden known for portraying Captain Square in the television sitcom Dad's Army. This was the second final credit in Geoffrey Lumsden acting Career. He passed away at age 69 on 1984/3/4. This a little over 1 month before this episode was first broadcast. I was born in July of 1984. Between the end of the first series and the start of the second series. Rest in peace Geoffrey Lumsden and the cast and crew of this show that have passed on.
Sonia is the neighbour and friend from hell, she would really make my blood boil and would have to ask her not to keep coming round and helping herself to whatever she wants.
Interesting...comical banter that slowly tears at social mores, making behavior that should have been scandalous seem absolutely "normal"...and people wonder how we got to the point where men think they can be women and pedophiles are teaching kindergarten. Oh, but it was such "nice, clean fun," right? I mean, at least they didn't use "bad" words!
witty and refreshing...so nice to watch a comedy where couples are pleasant to one another.
That's one of the reasons married with children was created couples are nasty
Perfect way to enjoy and unwind in these troublesome times, excellent cast, adore Anton Rodgers.
Spot on and the times continue these keep me sane!!
Brilliant comedy. Fun, entertainment, excellent acting and NO SWEAR WORDS!
totally agree with you! this is what tv should be and not that garbage that is being put out today
Absolutely!
I cannot agree anymore: NO SWEAR WORDS

As they say...get over yourself!
@@susansherlock6934 After you, dear.
This was the worst sit-com this country ever made. I cant think of one that was worse.
French Fields was even worser.
It would have been better if 'William' wasn't such a terrible character
