  • A collection of video from my Nest home security cameras of my house getting hit by lightning. Interestingly, the back yard camera turned off the instant just before the flash, so it didn't catch anything. The garage view is especially loud!

      @katykendall1997 2 года назад

      That is exactly what happened to me last summer. I was j chillin downstairs eating some buttered noodles watching RUclips and then all the sudden, there was a real life screenshot. Shook the house and I thought I died. I sincerely thought I died for a second or two and I did not know how or why. I was in my parents room in less than 10 seconds. I had no idea if it would happen again, all I knew is that I wanted to be out of that kitchen immediately. It was electrifying (hahah) but so scary.

    Crazy, at 1:17 you can see the lightning being discharged through the metal garage door.

    • @hebneh
      @hebneh 6 лет назад +93

      Yes you can! It's a spark in the door-opening mechanism right above the middle of the parked SUV's roof, which also reflects the spark. You clearly hear the noise of this discharge as well.

    • @babyhighspeed389
      @babyhighspeed389 6 лет назад +43

      Yep you see the spark and the motion sensor for the garage safety system starts flashing a wigs out for a minute. That is a bit uneasy, I wonder how much current was in that part of the discharge.

    • @richardvaughn2705
      @richardvaughn2705 6 лет назад +7

      bassboylowg All i see is the light turn on. The sudden brightness is caused by the automatic brightness adjustment on the cameras (it was completely dark before).

    • @curiouslytot1950

      richard vaughn It’s right above the suv on the metal frame in the middle at the top. It’s not the light adjusting because it happens before the motion lights actually turn on.

      My aunt told me that years ago there was a storm and lightning actually struck through their kitchen window and hit an electrical socket on the wall. Luckily there was no fire but it did leave a burn. I did not know this until after my grandparents moved out of that house. Scary! I remember how the lightning would be so close when it struck that it would make the smoke detector chirp.

    • @plateshutoverlock

If your really that afraid watch some videos about how to stay safe, what not to do, and precautions you should take. Also, don’t apologize for being afraid nor puberty we all go through it and we all have fear, it’s okay. I know I’m late, but I hope I helped!

      @Hello hello actually. I had an idea about your family. There are sadly many people that have bad parents as well. Again I’ll say to watch some videos on how to deal with it and what you should do. There is always someone out there for you on the internet. Sure while there are some toxic people a lot of them are really nice. In my mind, we should all watch each other’s backs. I’m just trying to do my part. If you want you can reply to this and talk about something else that’s holding you down. It’s up to you though don’t feel pressured! I’m here for you, and anyone else! I hope I helped!

    I know that feeling... lightening struck my chimney and blew bricks all over my yard.... I ran up in the attic to look for smoke and fire but it was opposite.. I had water pouring in! I had to get a tarp and made a shoot into a giant garbage can. When it struck you could almost feel but you def could hear the charge dissipating through the House..

    • @weeardguy
      @weeardguy 6 лет назад +13

      Severe EMP interference seems more likely to me. Electromagnetic pulses can easily activate rather sensitive inputs on electronic equipment. Don't know about Nest-systems, but I can also relate to the fact that losing the connection to the rest of the system (because of a power-cut) triggers safety-measures like turning lights on. That seems like quite logical for a security system...

    • @dm7097

      hebneh nope more than likely the power surge from the bolt, fused the contacts together essentially turning on the light switches.

      dm7097 I have an old Pokémon Pokédex toy that was activated by a nearby lightning strike a year or two ago. I know I didn't activate it because it was in the middle of the night, yet I heard it beeping immediately after the strike.

    • @weeardguy
      @weeardguy 6 лет назад +8

      That was most likely due to a sensitive digital input being lifted by an EMP enough to activate the device. It's quite a common thing. My brother and me once had this toy-phone that emitted all kinds of sounds when you pressed the buttons. We found out that when we coiled an extension cord (with nothing connected to it) up and placed the phone in the middle of the coil and then plug the extension cord into a socket, the phone would start playing a random melody normally played by a button-press. Same effect ;)

    Typically the reason the cameras trip out is, just prior to the strike the air begins to ionize creating a path for the strike. Occasionally you can even see St. Elmos fire forming at the tops of trees , power poles , antennas and things that are somewhat conductive before the strike. But all the electrical charge that is in the air really doesn't play well with electronics.

    When I was a kid I had a similar moment to this. I had a tree about 10 feet from my bedroom window that got struck in the middle of the night. It was so loud and violent from that small distance away that it actually shook me off the bed. I landed on the floor not knowing what the hell was going on with my ears ringing and thought I was dying. Honestly as an adult I'd probably have a very similar reaction as I did back then lol.
    TL:DR Lightning bolt hits a tree 10 feet from my bedroom window and scares the shit out of me

    • @WooferCooker
      @WooferCooker 5 лет назад

      Arcs the light switches and welds the contacts. The garage light logic board was probably fried and knocked the light on.

    I want this guy's surge arrest system. Those cameras help up like a champion for a direct strike! I've worked in a commercial building that a has been struck twice while working there. The first time caused a bunch of cameras to crash and have to restart, which meant a short period of time with no video. The next time, the same thing, but one of the cameras was permanently damaged and no longer able to adjust brightness.

  • @artemkras

    Why do lights stay on? Looks like the lightning fused the switches. Also, a lightning once struck like half a mile away from my house, and it still baked my security alarm sensors and made breakers trip. I'm suprised that didn't happen here.

    Lightening struck outside my gfs house when I was over there alone. She was just pulling up and we were on the phone and it was deafening. I just started cursing. It happened right next to the room I was in and even though I worked with explosives for years, it may be the loudest sound I've ever heard aside from a fighter jet over a stadium.
